Chapter 1149: 013, have you given away your first kiss_4?

"Axel, you go rest for a bit; I’ll handle this and call you when it’s done." Elena put away the groceries she bought, categorizing them neatly in the kitchen cabinets and placing what needed to be refrigerated into the fridge.

"Let me help you out, I’m not tired," Axel wanted to help, indeed, he was not feeling weary.

"No need, everything is already paired nicely, and there isn’t much to prepare. If you’re not tired, just go sit in the living room for a while." Elena shook her head; her mother had taught her that it was better for men to cook less as their career ambitions were normally stronger.

As for women, especially homemakers, they should do a bit more in this area.

Indeed, her mother rarely let her father cook, but on his days off, he would insist on cooking, and the meals he prepared were quite delicious.

When Axel stepped out of the kitchen, he saw candles and fresh flowers prepared on the dining table. He knew that Liam Carrington had arranged this for them. Such a thoughtful little guy, he would surely be a charmer in pursuing girls in the future.

To have thought of all these details was quite something.

Elena, who came out after frying the steak, also noticed this, and by that time, Axel had drawn the curtains in the living room, lit the candles, placed the flowers in the center of the table, took out the cocktail they bought, opened it, and poured two glasses.

At first, Elena’s gaze was drawn to the candlelight on the table, then she realized how dim the room was and wondered when Axel had prepared all of this since they had been together the whole time.

"I’m just re-gifting Buddha’s flowers; I didn’t prepare these, Liam Carrington left them here when he left. I’m just making good use of it," Axel didn’t conceal the truth as they had been together the whole time; he hadn’t had the chance to prepare these things. Mainly, he thought there’d be time to do so in a few days.

Unexpectedly, little Liam had accelerated his plans.

"Well then, let’s eat." The servants wouldn’t be back until ten, affording them several hours of privacy.

"Alright." The aroma of the delicious steak made Axel’s appetite surge. He cut a piece with his knife, took a bite, chewed a few times, and, as Liam had said, Elena’s cooking was indeed splendid, "It’s delicious. Liam didn’t exaggerate at all."

"..." Elena knew that Liam meant her cooking was comparable to that of professional chefs, but that was because Liam hadn’t eaten much made by others. However, Axel was different; his family ran hotels, under which were numerous renowned chefs, "Liam didn’t exaggerate because he hasn’t eaten out that much, but you’re different. Your family runs hotels, and Uncle Carrington has a plethora of famous chefs from around the world at his disposal. If you say such things, it makes you biased in their eyes."

"I’ve had my fair share, but what you’ve made is truly delicious. I’m not being biased; I’m speaking the truth. If you hadn’t already promised Uncle Carrington, I’d really want to recruit you as a top chef for our hotel," Axel said with a smile.

He knew that the profession Elena had chosen was to serve the Carrington family in the future, as this was Simon Carrington’s request for her. Moreover, the Carrington Family business would eventually be handed over to Liam Carrington, and Elena was willing to help him.

While Axel had his own ulterior motives, he understood Elena’s choice.

"..." Elena took his words to be sincere this time, but such a high appraisal was more than she felt she could live up to.

"Let’s have a toast," Axel raised his glass of wine toward Elena.

"Mm, here’s to Axel’s smooth studies and rising career," Elena said shyly and timidly.

"Mm, and to you as well," Axel nodded slightly.

The two clinked glasses, then ate their steak and drank cocktails, thoroughly enjoying themselves.

After finishing the steak, they each had a serving of fruit salad. Elena’s fruit salad was tasty as well, and though Axel hadn’t been keen on fruit since growing up, he finished a large bowlful.

With both dishes consumed, Axel was full.

Elena took the plates to the kitchen to wash up, not asking for Axel’s help, leaving him to tidy up the dining table before he went off to watch TV in the living room.

It was still before eight o’clock when Elena finished up, leaving two hours until ten. "Axel, do you want to take a walk? You never really had the chance to explore properly when you visited before. They’ve built a new fish pond here, want to check it out?"
