Chapter 104: Chapter 104 Kidnapped (2) Chapter 104: Chapter 104 Kidnapped (2) After they finished the toasting and talking, Carolline turned to Mia and said, “How much longer do you plan on letting this go on? It’s getting late, and I have work tomorrow.”

“Come on, girl, you just got here and you’re already thinking about leaving?” Mia glanced at Ben. Today’s gathering was mainly to thank Ben, so even though it was a bit awkward, she had asked Carolline to come at this time. But, it turned out that Carolline was already thinking about leaving after only a few minutes.

“Mia, how about letting Carolline go first? I also have something to do tomorrow and need to get up early. I’ll see Carolline off, and you can continue hosting here.” Since Mia was hosting today, even if they were going in the same direction, she couldn’t just leave so many people behind.

“Okay then, Ben, I’ll leave Carolline in your hands.” Before Carolline could say anything, Mia nodded her agreement, handing Carolline over to him.

“Uh-huh, don’t mention it,” Ben said, grabbing his bag and turning to Carolline. “Let’s go, Carolline. I’ll see you home.”

“…Thank you.” As Carolline realized she could not decline, she accepted the offer reluctantly.

Since Ben had been drinking wine during dinner, he couldn’t drive in the second round. To see Carolline home, they had to take a taxi. The two chose a cab nearby and got in right in front of the karaoke bar.

Perhaps it was because they hadn’t seen each other for so long or because it was their first time being alone together in a confined space, but Ben, not being the smoothest conversation starter, didn’t know what to talk about at the moment.

Carolline gave the driver her address, and then stopped talking. During their three years of middle school, she didn’t feel particularly close to Ben. He had been a class cadre, while she was just an ordinary student, unlike Mia, who had been the vice class leader. Consequently, she didn’t have much interaction with Ben.

She did often hear Mia mention Ben, but she just could not take an interest in what Mia said about him.

It was unclear how long they had been driving when the driver suddenly took a sharp turn, and Carolline felt that something was off. “Hey, master, I think you’re going the wrong way,” she said.

“…” Instead of responding to Carolline, the driver slammed on the accelerator and sped up.

Realizing that something was wrong, Ben calmly threatened, “Hey, stop the car. If you don’t stop, we’re calling the police.”

Ben gave the driver three seconds to comply, but the driver, becoming more desperate, accelerated even more. Ben didn’t hesitate to take out his phone to dial 110, but the driver, seeing this through the rearview mirror, slammed on the brakes. Both Carolline and Ben lurched forward.

Ben’s phone fell as Carolline banged her head. Ben reached to pick up his phone, still feeling confident as it was two against one.

However, just at that moment, the driver pulled out an iron rod from somewhere and struck Ben on the back of the head, knocking him out cold.

Seeing this, Carolline pulled out her phone, but an intimidating glare from the driver stopped her. “Don’t move, and it’s best if you behave.”

Carolline didn’t move, knowing she couldn’t act recklessly at this point. With Ben unconscious, she had to remain calm. Why did she always find herself in situations like this? This time she was even kidnapped.

Carolline scanned her surroundings but couldn’t tell where they were. The place was pitch black, without even a lamplight to see by.

Suddenly, there was a light from behind the car. Carolline and the driver both looked up, and Carolline saw two vehicles driving towards them. She was filled with hope, eager to find a way to alert the passengers in the approaching cars to their situation.

What she didn’t notice was how calm the driver became when he saw the approaching vehicles, not at all panicked by their arrival.

The two cars stopped to the left and right of Carolline’s taxi. Seeing the driver’s calm and composed expression, Carolline realized something just as the cars came to a halt – she didn’t have to do anything. The driver’s accomplices had arrived.
