Chapter 1022: 021 Birth certificate along with it for you_3
In the end, she helped Bernard pick out a dark gray casual suit. Bernard had a good frame, naturally well-suited for clothes, so he really looked good in anything.
After all, that suit jacket would only need to be worn for the greeting. Once at her house, in order to show off, he would certainly want to help out with chores, right? Naturally, he wouldn’t be able to wear the jacket then, so the shirt was more important than the suit.
Avery also picked out a white shirt for Bernard because she loved seeing him in white. Whenever she saw Bernard in his white doctor’s coat, she thought he looked incredibly handsome, almost ethereally so, as if he wasn’t of this world.
They finally settled on the clothes, and after eating something casual at the mall, they began to approach various counters.
Avery felt Bernard was sweeping through the place like a raider, picking up men’s skincare, men’s supplements, women’s skincare, women’s supplements... She really wondered if Bernard ever thought to ask for her opinion. Her mother might occasionally use some skincare products, but her old man really disliked all that flashy stuff. She could hardly imagine her dad smearing those slippery products on his face without pulling a zombie-like expression.
But Avery couldn’t dissuade him because Bernard had already taken it upon himself to have everything wrapped up. Once a certain amount was purchased, delivery to the doorstep was offered, and Bernard had filled in her parents’ address, naturally also specifying a delivery time—twenty minutes before they would get home.
Avery was embarrassed. All right, then. She really didn’t understand what had gotten into Bernard.
After the skincare and supplements, there were over ten sets of clothing for each gender from the new seasonal line. When Avery tried to intervene, the shop owner wouldn’t hear of it, cheerfully swiping his card, of course, for home delivery as well.
Bernard was still contemplating what else was needed. For Uncle Graham, it naturally couldn’t be complete without cigarettes and wine. So, twenty cartons of name-brand cigarettes and twenty bottles of fine white liquor were going to be delivered to their house.
Avery was at her wit’s end. When Bernard tried to pull her along to the next place, she just stood still. She grabbed onto the railing of the mall and wouldn’t let Bernard drag her away.
"What’s the matter? Are you tired?" Bernard asked gently, aware that he had worn Avery out with all the running around today.
"What exactly do you think you’re doing at my house? Are you delivering gifts or stocking up inventory?" Avery was at a loss for words, Bernard was really going overboard today.
She felt he was competing with someone. But last time, Michael Auclair didn’t buy much, everything was pretty normal, it was just because of the New Year’s shopping season that there was a lot to get.
Now, without any festival or holiday coming up, Avery couldn’t fathom why Bernard was buying so much stuff. Was it just to compete with Michael Auclair or show off or something?
She wouldn’t be happy with either of those reasons.
"Bought too much?" Bernard asked belatedly, then slowly pulled out a shopping list from his bag, "This is what my mom planned for me. There’s still a lot I haven’t bought yet, like ginseng and abalone."
Avery looked over the list and almost wanted to vomit. So this was how rich people gave gifts?
Okay, she completely surrendered to Nancy Sallow’s ways. If they followed this shopping list to the letter, it wouldn’t just be meeting the parents; they could go straight to presenting the betrothal gifts.
Actually, what Avery didn’t know was when Nancy Sallow heard that Avery was finally willing to take Bernard to meet the parents, she was so excited she could hardly contain herself. She wished they would take her and Jacob Taylor with them to formally present the betrothal gifts.
If it were not for Bernard and Jacob Taylor’s opposition, Nancy Sallow would have definitely gone along.
"It’s really a lot. Our house is very small, not like your villa," Avery spoke frankly.
She thought buying some fruit and supplements would have been more than enough; all the other things were really not necessary to buy in such great quantities. Even though her dad loved drinking wine, her mom would control his alcohol intake. Was buying all this white liquor intended to make her mom explode?
