Chapter 1005: 018 Shall we be together_7

Meanwhile, joy lingered in her heart.

"Avery, have you thought it through?" Avery Graham bid Bernard Taylor good night and was about to close the door when Bernard suddenly placed a hand on the door panel.

"What?" Avery was a bit confused for a moment, having had some wine earlier and was probably a bit tipsy; she didn’t understand the meaning behind Bernard’s question.

"About us being together," Bernard stated directly, not allowing Avery to feign ignorance.

He now knew that Avery didn’t like Michael Auclair at all, which Giselle Browman had told him the other day.

Since she didn’t like him, there was no so-called ’transition period’. Therefore, Avery claiming she needed a ’transition period’ was just a pretext, basically to avoid him, right?

But now, he wanted a direct answer and wouldn’t let her avoid it.

"...when did you ever say that you wanted us to be together? I didn’t know about it," Avery mumbled softly, her face flushing.

Yes, she must have really drunk a bit too much earlier, otherwise why would her face feel so hot right now?

"I said it that day. I’m not young anymore, Avery. I hope you won’t make me wait too long. Or do you feel you don’t know me well enough? Then let me share my past story with you, okay? Let’s go inside and talk." Bernard decided to take this very night to deeply analyze himself in front of Avery.

He was willing to tell her everything he had experienced.

"No need, it’s too late, and, I know your story." Avery didn’t know what got into her, but she just didn’t want Bernard to come in right now. She was afraid something uncontrollable might happen, so impulsively, she blurted out what Nancy Sallow had told her.

"You know my story?" Bernard paused for a moment, asking back.

"Yeah, well, I... " Avery started to play dumb again, great, why did she suddenly turn into a dummy in front of Bernard? This really wasn’t a good sign.

"Do you know about me and Violet Orson?" Bernard fully entered the room now, looking into Avery’s eyes as he inquired again. He didn’t know that Avery would know about it, although he had never thought to hide it from her. He figured he would tell her about his first love experience when the right time came.

However, what he hadn’t expected was that she already knew?

"Yes yes yes, I know all about it. I just find it strange, Violet was such a wonderful girl, you liked her so much, so how could you suddenly start liking me? I can’t compare to Violet, okay? It’s not that I have an inferiority complex, Bernard. When I first met you, I felt the same as everyone else, that you were like a celestial being, and maybe just a bit too harsh on people. Later, any dissatisfaction I had with you stemmed from your harshness towards me. I wasn’t deliberately antagonizing you, nor was I trying to seduce you in the unique way others said, but I really can’t match you, because I’m just a mortal, I’m no angel, while you, you should be with an angel like Violet..."

Avery didn’t know how these words suddenly burst out, but indeed, they had been hidden in her heart for a long time. She felt that even if Bernard were to find someone else, he should be with someone like Violet, not someone completely unlike her.

All of a sudden, Bernard moved closer to Avery, and just like that night at her house, she became motionless. Perhaps, she rationalized to herself, it was the happiness she saw in Celia Wade that had triggered her.

Bernard reached out to lift the strands of hair that had fallen beside her temples, his heart clear. Apparently, Avery wasn’t completely indifferent towards him as he had thought; she had her little insecurities.

In fact, there really was no need for that. He wasn’t a celestial being, nor was Violet an angel.

They were all ordinary people, just as ordinary and regular as she was, Avery Graham, with no special powers, right?

Seeing Bernard just quietly looking at her, Avery didn’t know what to say. She wanted to turn her head away to prevent him from touching her because, whenever Bernard came close to her now, her heart would uncontrollably start racing. She was terrified that Bernard might hear the sound of her accelerated heartbeat, leaving her utterly powerless to explain.

Yes, she liked Bernard, if she hadn’t, she thought she might have resignedly dated Michael Auclair. However, during those days with Michael Auclair, she hadn’t been serious at all. She didn’t want to get married, not because she thought she was still young and could afford to wait, but because Michael Auclair had never given her the urge to marry.

Refusing Bernard had always had a lot to do with external factors, initially being colleagues, then Nancy Sallow, and initially Bernard’s disdain towards her.

Watching Bernard’s face grow closer, Avery involuntarily turned her head, but Bernard used a bit of force to prevent her from turning away, directly asking, "So, do you want to be together?"
