Chapter 154: Chapter 154: A Shameless Family
Ryan Walyon’s gaze lingered for a little too long after drifting over to her.
Until suddenly, Sophie Walyon’s voice rang out, "Ryan, do you want to come over and join us?"
Ryan Walyon had always been steady, and he usually wouldn’t do such a thing.
He was silent for a moment after Sophie’s words. Sophie had thought he wouldn’t join, but Ryan slowly walked over to the two of them.
Sophie handed him a bundle of fireworks, "I picked these. Aren’t they beautiful?"
"Yes," Ryan Walyon replied softly.
Sophie lit another one, spinning around with it, "The fireworks are flying! They’re flying!"
A child’s world is always full of innocence and imagination.
Summer Sutton continued to keep him company, and by the end of the night, the two had gone through at least a few hundred fireworks.
Ryan Walyon sat quietly beside them, watching the two play.
The three of them stayed in the garden until past eleven when Sophie finally returned to her room, exhausted.
...
The next day, a few unexpected guests arrived at the Walyon Family mansion for Summer Sutton.
The Sutton Family.
Gina Sutton greeted the elders politely, "Happy New Year, Aunt Wood! Happy New Year, Grandpa!"
William Sutton, as soon as he entered, tried to ingratiate himself, "In-laws, well, Summer is my niece by marriage. Now that she’s married into this family, we’re all one family. For festivals and celebrations, you must come to us."
"Yes, yes, Summer’s only family on her side is us. Family, we’re all family," Betty Chapman chimed in.
As Summer Sutton came downstairs, she heard their words, feeling so disgusted she wanted to vomit.
Family? Niece by marriage?
They took her father’s company away, never cared for her for years after her grandfather’s passing, and now that she’s married into the Walyon Family, they shamelessly call themselves family?
The Suttons treated Summer Sutton poorly all these years.
To curry favor with the Walyons, they were willing to throw away all dignity?
Summer Sutton couldn’t stand their faces. As she walked past the trio, she coldly corrected Betty and William Chapman’s words.
"A few months ago, when I visited the Sutton Family, Aunt clearly told me that since my father and grandfather passed, that household no longer meant anything to me. I’m no longer part of the Sutton Family. Does Aunt have a bad memory?"
Her words were direct, with no intention to spare Betty any face.
Surrounded by so many Walyons, even Old Master seemed a bit startled, "Was there such a matter?"
Betty Chapman had an awkward expression, forced a smile, and quickly denied, "Child, what are you saying? Summer, you’re still young, you must have misunderstood Aunt’s tone then."
Summer Sutton laughed coldly, thinking she was treating everyone as fools.
"As long as you know what you’ve done, it’s clear in your own heart." Not even bothering to entertain the trio, Summer Sutton headed to the dining room to find Adrian Walyon.
The Suttons weren’t there to acknowledge kinship with her anyway.
Summer Sutton was merely a stepping stone for them to get closer to the Walyons, hoping to gain business benefits from it.
Once Gina Sutton got familiar with the family and everyone grew fond of her, that would be the day she’d push Summer Sutton out of the family!
This was what Betty Chapman had previously meant, that even if you hate someone in your heart, never show it outwardly.
Whatever you want to do, take it step by step in the shadows.
