Chapter 75: Chapter 75 Baby, Don’t Cry, Daddy Will Be There Soon!

Emma Carter was so furious that her face turned dark with anger, "What did you just say? Who are you calling the Wicked Witch?"

"I’m calling you! Yes, you!" Hope had been spoiled since she was young, a bit willful and obstinate. She yelled at Emma Carter, "I know you don’t like me! And I don’t like you either! Go away! I don’t want to see you! Wicked Witch!"

She didn’t care if the other person was her elder; she only cared whether she liked them.

In the little girl’s eyes, this grandma wasn’t even as caring as the household helpers. So why should she respect her?

Emma Carter, in her status, had never been spoken to loudly, let alone by a four-year-old child!

Watching the little girl yell at her, she got so angry she lost her reason and raised her hand to slap her!

Amelia Garcia was right beside them, too close to intervene in time.

Hearing the smack and the little girl’s mouth opening in a pained cry, Amelia felt her heart was about to break. She quickly gathered the child into her arms.

"What are you doing hitting people! She’s just a child, and she’s sick! Do you have any humanity?"

Amelia was filled with righteous indignation!

Having been a mom for so many years, she had been driven crazy and to seclusion by the antics of the two brothers, but she had never, ever slapped anyone!

And this person, the child’s very own grandmother, was slapping her four-year-old granddaughter!

Especially when she was sick and in the hospital!

Amelia’s anger exploded at the thought of her daughter’s words, continuing, "The child didn’t insult you wrongly, you are a Wicked Witch! Even witches aren’t as cruel-hearted as you are!"

Even if someone was a witch, they would harm others but still love their own family.

But this old woman, she even hit her own granddaughter!

"What did you say! Who do you think you are? I’m her grandmother; it’s my natural right to discipline my misbehaving granddaughter!"

Emma’s anger hadn’t subsided yet, and it was further fueled by Amelia, making her even more furious, her finger pointing at Amelia as if she was about to strike.

But Amelia wasn’t afraid!

As a mother, she was like a battle eagle protecting her children!

While shielding Hope on the bed and putting the child behind her, she stood tall, chest out, confronting Emma Carter with force.

"Even if you were Mother Queen King, you have no right to lay a hand on her! Bullying the young and weak with your power, do you have no shame? How cruel must your heart be to hurt such an adorable child!"

"Adorable? What’s adorable about this child? She’s just as bad as her damned mother, wicked from the start!"

"Slap!"

Without thinking, Amelia’s hand flew up and slapped her. Emma clearly hadn’t expected to be hit back and didn’t even move to dodge; the slap landed solidly.

Watching the former mother-in-law’s face turn to the side from the hit, Amelia clenched her numb palm, her eyes still brimming with anger, her whole body tense and on guard.

"You dare hit me?" Emma covered her slapped cheek, her eyes red with rage as she turned to hit back.

Amelia, not wanting Hope to get caught up in this, quickly stepped aside, ready to fight back.

The little girl, who was previously crying loudly, saw her grandma and mom fighting and was so scared she stopped crying. She looked around, scrambled up, and reached for the bedside telephone.

"Daddy... waaaa... come quick... Grandma and Mommy are fighting, Mommy’s going to get beaten to death—waaaa..."

Amelia, hearing her daughter’s tearful plea for help, felt like her insides were burning with fury but was also amused by her daughter’s words.

Where was she close to being beaten to death?

Although Emma was tough, she was, after all, getting on in years and had lived a pampered life.

But since becoming a mother, aside from everything else, just carrying her children had built up the strength in her arms, and combined with regular exercise—if it came down to it, she wasn’t going to lose to an old lady, was she?

That little girl!

But these words scared Christopher Hart out of his wits on the other end of the phone!

President Hart, who was in an urgent meeting, stood up abruptly upon hearing his daughter’s incoherent sobbing, startling all the executives in the room!

"Baby, don’t cry, Daddy will be there soon!"

Without a word of explanation, he kicked his chair and rushed out the door as if riding on wheels of wind and fire.

The room full of executives looked at each other with dissatisfaction and whispered among themselves.

Benny Palmer guessed that there was trouble in his own backyard and, while feeling helpless and sympathetic, he quickly stood up to take charge of the situation.

Christopher Hart sped all the way, not daring to hang up the call.

From the other end, his mother’s voice could be heard, along with the occasional noise of things being hit, and thinking of the two women coming to blows with his sick daughter witnessing it all—his heart was in his throat, burning with urgency.

In the hospital room, the fight between Amelia Garcia and Emma Carter ended with the intervention of the medical staff.

Both being prominent figures, they regained some sense of rationality once separated.

Emma Carter thought about the embarrassment and was so angry that she burst into tears, loudly lamenting the decline of public morals and the prevalence of mistresses, as if there were no justice left in the world.

Amelia, however, was unfazed; she was already accustomed to the slander and dirt thrown at her these days.

Besides, there was nothing shameful in protecting her daughter.

"Mommy..." Hope looked at Amelia with a face full of panic, reaching out to her.

Amelia quickly regained composure, rubbed her face to soften her expression, and walked over with a gentle smile, "Baby, don’t be scared, Mommy is okay."

Since she had acknowledged her identity to Christopher, she no longer hid it from her daughter, calling herself Mommy.

Of course, the young child didn’t notice this change.

But Emma Carter, who had sharp ears, immediately pointed and cursed, "Shameless! What gives you the right to be my granddaughter’s mother? Just because your face looks like hers?"

Amelia couldn’t be bothered to respond and continued to comfort her daughter, coaxing her to sleep.

The medical staff were awkwardly silent, not knowing what to say.

Emma Carter waited awhile, and seeing Amelia had no intention of leaving, she flared up again, "Why are you still clinging here? I’ve said before, my Hart family’s child doesn’t need outsiders to take care of her—especially not a mad woman!"

The door to the hospital room was suddenly flung open, and a tall, upright man strode in, his voice ringing out, "I asked her to stay here, and she’s not allowed to leave!"

Emma Carter was shocked and turned to look at her son, becoming even more enraged.

"You foolish thing! So bewitched by this Fox Spirit! She dared to hit me! You still treat such a woman like a treasure?"

Amelia did not turn around or look at Christopher Hart.

She didn’t want to say anything in her defense, having no expectations of improving their relationship.

Unexpectedly, it wasn’t her who spoke—but Hope, with a quick tongue, cried out in her small voice, "Daddy! This Wicked Witch hit me! Mommy got really angry and fought with her!"

Christopher frowned and approached the bedside to look at his daughter, speaking softly, "Hope, she’s your grandmother."

"No, she’s not! She never liked me! She likes my brother Oliver but never me! They said it’s because I’m a girl, and the elders don’t like girls!"

The little girl’s startling words shocked everyone in the room.

Emma Carter’s face fell, and she quickly retorted, "When did I ever dislike you? It’s you—so young yet so deep in schemes, unwilling to get close to me!"
