Chapter 60: Chapter 60 President Hart’s Public Princess Carry
Amelia Garcia’s face changed abruptly, "Jump off a building? Where?"
"The private hospital where she’s been admitted."
Amelia turned her head to look at Christopher Hart.
But he still seemed indifferent, as if nothing was happening.
Lucas King knew his boss’s mind and couldn’t help feeling worried.
Actually, he didn’t care about Lily Garcia’s well-being either, but with the public opinion not yet settled, and this incident on top of it, it would undoubtedly add fuel to the fire.
Even if they didn’t care about Lily Garcia, they had to consider their own reputation.
After much deliberation, Lucas braced himself to persuade, "President Hart, she said she won’t come down unless you show up. If you don’t go, and something really happens to her..."
"She doesn’t have the courage to die," Christopher interrupted.
"Maybe not originally... but now, with the situation escalating, lots of people are watching, and many are deliberately stirring things up, hoping she’ll act on impulse—"
Before Lucas could finish, Christopher’s phone rang.
"Christopher! Lily was somehow provoked and is suddenly threatening to jump. There’s even an internet celebrity live streaming the whole thing. If this gets out... the Hart Family’s reputation will be completely ruined! Get over there quick and talk her down, we can sort everything else out later."
George Hart was issuing urgent commands on the other end of the line.
Before Christopher could reply, the phone was handed to someone else; Wendy Hart shouted angrily, "Brother, even if she hadn’t saved my life, we’re talking about a life-and-death situation now. Can you really be so heartless as to let her die?"
"If that’s truly the case, then I might as well not live either!"
After Wendy’s outcry, Emma Carter’s angry rebuke came through, "What nonsense are you talking about! How can a perfectly good family be in such disarray? Can’t you siblings give us a break?"
Amelia sat on the sofa on the side, unable to hear the chaotic frenzy inside Christopher’s phone, but judging by his frighteningly tense facial expressions, she knew the situation must be very serious.
She opened her phone, and before she even searched, she saw a live stream shared by Snow Fitch.
Clicking it open, she saw an internet celebrity filming the scene live with Lily Garcia atop a high building.
The distance was significant, so naturally, she couldn’t hear what Lily was saying, but the way her hands waved sporadically through the air and her body wobbly on the platform was enough to make anyone’s heart race.
She stood up, took the phone to the bedside, and handed it to Christopher for him to see.
"You better get over there quickly. If she really dies, you’ll never be able to clear your name."
Christopher glanced at it and spat out two words chillingly: "Crazy person."
The phone rang again, this time from Michael Garcia.
He picked up, demanding angrily, "How did you handle what I asked you to do? Now she’s using death to blackmail me!"
Michael spoke with a pained tone, "That girl... she won’t listen to reason, and I just can’t do anything about it..."
"Christopher, I’m begging you, come over quickly and talk her down, her mother and I will try to reason with her afterward! I promise to fulfill my end of the deal!"
Amelia was right next to the bed, very close by.
Hearing her biological father’s voice, she felt as though it was from a distant past, as if from a previous life.
Lily Garcia, a stepdaughter with whom he had no blood relation, yet he was so anxious and concerned.
But according to Snow, when his own daughter had died giving birth, he didn’t seem very grieved.
A pang of hurt crossed her heart, and she barely curled her lips in a mockery of her own tragic fate before turning to leave.
"Where do you think you’re going?" Christopher suddenly called out to her.
She turned around to see that he had already thrown off the blankets and was getting out of bed.
"You go talk to your fiancée; I’ll go home and do my work—why, you don’t expect me to accompany you, do you?" she said sarcastically.
Christopher, in front of her, made no effort to hide as he stripped off his hospital gown and quickly and efficiently put on a shirt.
"The matter between us isn’t settled yet; don’t think you can slip away."
Christopher Hart dropped that line, glanced at his daughter, and instructed her, "Hope, you go home with Aunt Harper first. Daddy and Mommy are busy and will come home later to be with you."
The little girl stared blankly, hesitated, and then nodded her head with a soft "Oh."
"I’m not going with you!" Amelia Garcia thought, given how much attention they already attracted, if they made a public appearance together today, it would be like handing a knife to the netizens.
She wanted no further part in this mess.
But Christopher Hart wasn’t about to let her have her way. He grabbed her wrist and dragged her out without any discussion.
"Christopher Hart! Let go! This is your problem, why drag me into it? I don’t want to be misunderstood as the other woman, constantly exposed online, threatened!" Amelia struggled with her all her might, desperately resisting.
The man, annoyed by her fuss and in a hurry, simply picked her up horizontally in a domineering manner!
"Ah! What are you doing! Put me down!" Amelia’s face turned red with embarrassment, and she felt as awkward as a shrimp.
"Keep thrashing and if you fall, don’t expect me to care!" the man coldly huffed, striding towards the elevator.
Amelia didn’t dare to look at the expressions of the medical staff and pretends to be dead by covering her face with both hands.
Mr. Hart glanced down, a smile curling on his thin lips.
Lucas King and Fuller, following behind, kept chanting "look away, look away" in their minds and hurried to press the elevator button.
In truth, Christopher Hart hadn’t planned on making her appear with him.
Even if he was forcing her to come along, he just intended to leave her in the car.
He just didn’t want her to go back and get cozy with that foreign man.
Just thinking about it made him feel disgusted!
————
Lily Garcia had been standing on the rooftop for a long time.
The sun was fierce, and the heatwave was scorching, enough to make her feel a bit dizzy.
Her gaze occasionally swept unintentionally across the crowd below, and as they chanted for her to jump, to hurry up and jump, her heart grew even more fearful.
After nearly half an hour of stalemate, she still hadn’t seen Christopher Hart show up, and she felt trapped.
The hatred in her heart surged with the accumulating fear as she remembered her love for him over the years—so humble, so cheap, so low to the dust...
Just one month ago, they were still discussing wedding jewelry.
He had gone to great lengths to contact her favorite jewelry designer, spending a lot of money to have them return to the country for a meeting, to adjust the design just for her.
Back then, he had been so good to her!
Thinking of the wedding jewelry made Lily Garcia regret it again, regretting so much that she suddenly raised her hand and started hitting her own head fiercely!
It was all her own fault!
If she hadn’t wanted those wedding jewels or that avant-garde designer, she wouldn’t have let the wolf into the house, leading to this series of events.
It was all her fault!
Fiona Marshall was scared out of her wits by her daughter’s actions.
Seeing her daughter suddenly hitting her own head like mad, she rushed forward again.
"Lily... Lily... don’t do this, come down first, whatever you ask, Mom will agree! Please come down, okay... sob, what sins have I committed..."
The firefighter, taking advantage of Lily Garcia’s distraction, quickly advanced a bit but Lily suddenly looked up and shouted sharply, "Don’t come any closer! Or I’ll jump right now!"
There was a narrow platform on the rooftop extending outward, and Lily, while shouting, moved back another two steps.
The firefighter, seeing this, dared not move closer and immediately halted, constantly trying to soothe her.
Michael Garcia suddenly stepped forward several paces, holding his phone and shouting out, "Lily, Christopher’s here! He’s come! Calm down! You must stay calm!"
