Chapter 440: Why are you staying with me?
Chapter 440: Chapter 440: Why are you staying with me?
"No need for such a big gesture, it’s just my duty." Charles Smith said playfully, stepping back due to Amelia Garcia’s continuous nodding and bowing.
When he finished speaking, his gaze finally shifted slightly and he noticed the female companion beside Amelia Garcia.
Then, he nodded gracefully and amicably, as a greeting.
His every move exudes nobility, and even in a plain surgical gown, he couldn’t hide the innate elegance and aloofness in his demeanor.
But this aloofness did not feel cold; instead, it gave a sense of respect towards others, making people feel comfortable.
With just a glance, Snow felt herself falling deeper each time.
She watched blankly, forgetting to react and didn’t catch what they were saying.
Charles Smith reminded Amelia Garcia, "My father will be available around four this afternoon. I’ll send you the address later."
Amelia Garcia noted the afternoon arrangement and nodded, "Okay."
"Alright, you continue to wait here, I need to go." Charles Smith had to rush back to his own hospital work with many patients needing his responsible care.
Amelia Garcia watched his slender figure depart and suddenly realized there had been no movement next to her for a while. She turned around and waved a hand in front of her friend, "Snap out of it! He’s gone!"
Snow was startled, blinked and came to her senses, feeling flustered, short of breath, and blushing.
"Did you see that? Did you see that? He finally noticed me! He greeted me! Oh my... such an ethereal and elegant person! He’s like an immortal who doesn’t partake in worldly affairs!"
Amelia Garcia turned her eyes to her, with an amused yet helpless expression, "So, are you going to pursue him or not?"
Snow suddenly hesitated, contemplating as if thinking of a monumental life decision. After a moment, she made up her mind decisively, "Yes! Even if I don’t deserve him, it’d be worth it to see him a few more times!"
"Then I wish you success and swift victory."
Christopher needs to wait until the anesthesia wears off and he regains consciousness before he can be brought out.
Amelia Garcia checked the time; it was past one in the afternoon, "Snow, you should go back. I can wait here."
"But you haven’t eaten yet, I’ll go buy you something to eat."
"No need, I’m not hungry..."
"Impossible! Health is important!" Snow said as she walked out, instructing, "I’ll be back soon. If you go back to the ward, let me know."
Amelia wasn’t actually hungry, preoccupied with concerns about Seal-Cloud, thinking about where to gather funds, neglecting her physical needs.
But Snow returned with lunch and insisted she eat something.
"I know you’re worried about the company’s affairs and have no appetite, but health is important. You can’t conjure money by not eating or drinking." She handed the packed meal box to Amelia’s hand, glanced at the time again, and hurriedly said, "I need to rush back to work. If I have any news from my father, I’ll get back to you."
"Alright, drive safely."
Snow hurriedly left, and Amelia Garcia looked at the meal in her hand and perked up.
Her phone dinged. She took a look; it was a message from Charles Smith with the address.
It was that private dining restaurant again.
Originally troubled with concerns, looking at Charles Smith’s message, her eyes suddenly lit up...
Maybe she could find an investor!
Her heart lightened somewhat, and she quickly opened the meal box to eat.
Before she could finish eating, the door from the operating room opened.
Christopher was being wheeled out by the medical staff.
She quickly stood up, put the meal box on the seat, and approached him.
Christopher was already awake, looking a bit pale but seemed okay.
"You’re awake? How are you feeling?"
Christopher looked at her but didn’t speak. Instead, he raised a hand to touch her face.
"What’s wrong?" Amelia didn’t realize what was happening and instinctively leaned back, but his hand had already brushed her lips.
"Just started eating?" His voice was low, with a hint of weakness.
Amelia only then noticed a grain of rice on his fingertip.
Embarrassed...
She smiled awkwardly, took the grain of rice from his fingertip, not knowing where to discard it, she just ate it herself, "Snow just bought it for me, I hadn’t finished when you came out."
"Silly, were you waiting here the whole time? I told you to go out and stroll."
"Didn’t feel like walking."
She replied casually, following the gurney past where she was sitting earlier, she turned and packed up the meal box to return to the ward with him.
Perhaps due to the anesthesia, he looked drowsy. Seeing his worn-out appearance, Amelia hesitated, unsure if she should tell him about the situation in S City.
Back in the ward, the nurse settled Christopher in, provided a myriad of care instructions, and then left.
Christopher saw her sitting by the bed, gazing at him eagerly. His handsome face displayed a faint smile, "Why are you watching over me? Go eat."
"I’ve almost finished." She took a tissue to wipe her mouth, then asked him, "Are you hungry? If you don’t mind what I have left, I can feed you some?"
"I’ve tasted your saliva enough, what would I mind..." Even in weakness, Mr. Hart couldn’t resist flirting; saying that, he smiled, "Not hungry, just tired... wanting to sleep."
"Then sleep. The doctor said you need to stay in bed and rest these few days, don’t be careless. Just lie there obediently, you worked tirelessly for a while, rest well for a few days."
"Okay..."
Amelia had hesitated initially, but seeing his lack of energy, she hesitated no more.
This matter, let’s keep it hidden for now, say it tomorrow.
And as for her meeting with Mr. Smith in the afternoon...
Originally she hadn’t planned to hide it, but hadn’t gotten the chance to say anything before he closed his eyes.
Oh well, she’ll talk to him when she returns.
"Christopher..." She leaned in, softly calling near his ear, with tenderness said, "Then take a nap first, I’ll go check on the kids, and make something for you to eat, bring it over in the evening."
Christopher, nearly asleep with eyes closed, still gently responded to her words.
Amelia felt tender inside, touched his cool, rigid hair as if coaxing a child, kissed his lips softly, before getting up to leave.
Driving to the private dining restaurant, Amelia spotted the distinctive Rolls-Royce right away.
It seemed they had already arrived.
As she got out of the car, a waiter approached her with a smile, "Hello, are you Miss Norton?"
"Yes."
"Mr. Smith is waiting for you, please follow me."
Amelia followed the waiter into the classic redwood door.
It was past service hours, leaving the courtyard quiet, occasionally bird murmurs, fostering a serene, forest-like ambiance, inevitably relaxing anyone present.
She trailed the waiter, twisting and turning through long corridors, expecting they would enter a private room.
Surprisingly, they ended up at a pavilion beside a rock garden.
"Miss Norton!" Charles Smith, sitting in the pavilion, saw her and immediately stood up to greet her.
Amelia smiled, quickened her pace, stepped up the few stairs, and entered the pavilion.
