Chapter 393: Chapter 393: A Umbrella Worth 100,000
Emma Carter had surgery in the third year of junior high, and these few days are critical. Christopher Hart has been staying at the hospital, and they call each other every day to talk about the day’s events and the children.
It’s normal for children to get sick; she has experience and knows they’ll recover in three to four days at most. There’s no need to let him worry.
Plus, there is some distance between the two hospitals, and it’s troublesome for him to rush back and forth.
When she got to the ward, Ethan hadn’t slept for long before waking up crying due to discomfort.
Amelia Garcia gave him some water, but soon enough, he threw it up.
Jacob Garcia had no experience in taking care of kids, so he was anxious on the side but didn’t know how to help.
They struggled like this until four in the morning. The little one finally broke his fever and fell into a deep sleep, and Amelia Garcia also fell asleep beside the bed.
A little after six, the doctor came to do rounds, and she was startled awake.
Ethan also woke up and immediately said he was hungry and wanted to eat.
Of course, Amelia Garcia knew he was hungry; after vomiting and having diarrhea all night, his stomach was already empty.
The doctor said he could have some white porridge since it’s easy to digest and will help restore his stomach function. Hearing this, Jacob Garcia immediately got up, "Sis, I’ll go buy it!"
Amelia Garcia quickly stopped him, "You stay with Ethan. I have to go down to buy some things anyway, so I’ll get breakfast on the way."
She just happened to be on her period these two days, and last night she rushed to the hospital without preparing any sanitary napkins. She only had one emergency one in her bag and used it in the middle of the night.
But she had no idea that when she took the elevator downstairs and walked to the entrance of the inpatient department, it was raining outside.
And raining pretty heavily.
She was in a dilemma; if it were summer, getting caught in the rain would be no big deal.
But in this chilly spring, getting drenched and possibly falling ill would be really inconvenient.
A woman who becomes a mother doesn’t even have the luxury of getting sick; otherwise, who would take care of the child? Moreover, one of them is already sick.
Just as she was anxiously considering borrowing an umbrella, someone beside her walked up the steps, holding a large black umbrella.
"Going out? You can borrow my umbrella," the person offered proactively.
Amelia Garcia was startled and looked at the person, only noting that he was tall without seeing his face clearly, and repeatedly nodded thanks, "Thank you, thank you so much..."
Once she got the umbrella, her eyes unintentionally glanced at the Logo on it, and she was shocked—it was a matching umbrella for the Rolls-Royce luxury car!
She was about to leave but instinctively turned back, "Um... how should I return your umbrella later?"
Rumor had it this Rolls-Royce umbrella was worth a hundred thousand!
She had to return it properly.
The man casually pointed, "Just leave it at the entrance later."
"But what if it gets lost?" Amelia Garcia thought about the umbrella’s worth, considering the person’s kindness, and couldn’t let them suffer a loss. She took out her phone, "Can we add each other on WhatsApp? Don’t worry, I’ll delete it after returning the umbrella."
She feared the person might misunderstand her, so she hastily assured them she had no ulterior motives.
"Alright then..."
The man gave a light smile and took out his phone; Amelia Garcia quickly scanned the QR code, "I’ll contact you later, thank you."
Throughout the whole process, she didn’t take a good look at him, only vaguely felt he was either rich or noble with excellent manners.
She entered the rain soaked scenery, unaware the man on the steps was still standing in place, his gaze following her.
Just then, a white coat emerged from the inpatient department entrance, respectfully looking at the man, "Are you Professor Smith? I’m Little Carter from the orthopedics department; my teacher sent me down to meet you."
The man nodded, caught up to the white coat’s pace, and while doing so, took out his phone with a gentle smile, making a call.
Amelia Garcia went to a convenience store to buy sanitary napkins and two adult and one child breakfast sets, carrying items in one hand and holding an umbrella in the other, awkwardly returning to the inpatient department.
She opened the ward door and was startled by the familiar figure beside the bed, "Why are you here?"
Christopher Hart was sitting in a wheelchair, one hand still on his son’s forehead, checking his temperature.
Upon seeing the woman return, his gaze was both angry and concerned.
"Why didn’t you tell me our son was sick?"
Amelia Garcia walked into the ward, placed the umbrella aside, and brought the breakfast to the bedside.
She glanced at Jacob Garcia standing nearby and softly asked, "Did you make the call?"
Jacob Garcia pursed his lips and hadn’t answered when Christopher Hart spoke up, "Are you blaming him? If he hadn’t spoken, I wouldn’t have known?"
Jacob Garcia, as clever as a monkey, grabbed two buns and fled.
Amelia Garcia didn’t bother to argue, thinking that since he was here, she’d seize the opportunity to go home and bring some essential items over.
It’s just that this is a double room, and the neighboring bed also has a child, whose family is watching them suspiciously.
She glanced at the man and pulled the curtain to separate the sides, then whispered to explain, "We checked in very late last night, and I thought it wasn’t necessary to disturb you."
"And today?"
"Didn’t have the time today either, did I? As soon as I woke up, I met the doctor during rounds, and then Ethan said he was hungry, so I went down to buy food."
"You didn’t know you could have sent that kid on an errand, even in this heavy rain?" The man’s tone was still sharp, ultimately worried about her.
Amelia Garcia lowered her voice further and subtly showed the contents of the bag, "I needed to buy these..."
Christopher Hart glanced over, feeling mildly embarrassed for a moment, but quickly said, "During special times you should rest more, especially when the child is hospitalized, and you kept it from me!"
"Fine, now that you’ve scolded, what do you want?" She had a sleepless night and was also on her period, feeling irritable and couldn’t help but snap back.
Christopher Hart stared at her, momentarily helpless.
Poor Ethan, sick and acting as a mediator, pulled his father’s hand and said dejectedly, "Dad, don’t argue with Mom. She stayed up all night taking care of me."
Christopher Hart felt more heartache hearing this and regretted his actions.
"Quickly eat breakfast. After that, I’ll arrange for you to go home and sleep well; I’ll stay with Ethan."
Noticing his tone softening, Amelia Garcia followed suit and handed him a portion of the breakfast, "Did you eat before coming here?"
The man nodded but added, "I’m not hungry, you eat."
He feared Amelia hadn’t bought any for him and would go hungry if he took her portion.
Amelia Glared at him and pushed some lean meat porridge over, "Eat it, there’s more!"
She didn’t know what Jacob Garcia liked to eat, so she bought a little of everything.
The kid, feeling guilty earlier, ran off with only two buns, leaving behind plenty of breakfast.
Christopher Hart only started eating when she said that.
"I’ll switch to a single room later; that way, you can get some rest while keeping watch. I’ve asked the doctor; we should be discharged tomorrow. Recovery at home is more comfortable, and we can ask the family doctor to visit home morning and night."
As he ate, he arranged things, and Amelia Garcia murmured, "It’s New Year’s and I don’t want to bother anyone."
"It’s nothing; I’m paying them for it."
Amelia Garcia said no more and focused on feeding Ethan porridge.
The phone on the bedside suddenly rang; it was a voice call.
Christopher Hart glanced at it, "Who’s this?"
Amelia Garcia picked up the phone, momentarily surprised before realizing, "Oh, the person I borrowed the umbrella from might need it."
She quickly set down the porridge and, while answering the voice call, grabbed the umbrella from beside her and hurried out.
