Chapter 357: It’s All Because You’re Too Enthusiastic
Chapter 357: Chapter 357: It’s All Because You’re Too Enthusiastic
The next day, Amelia Garcia was rudely awakened by her phone alarm.
Opening her tired eyes, she felt as though her entire body had been glued to the bed with superglue, completely unable to move.
She couldn’t tell whether it was the exhausting shopping spree last night or the excessive "bullying" from a certain someone later on—anyhow, this sleep left her feeling even more drained than if she hadn’t slept at all.
Still, no matter how tough it was, getting up and going to work was non-negotiable.
Such is the daily grind of the working class.
Even though she was now the boss, she still couldn’t lie flat and relax. In fact, her stress was greater than that of regular employees, her worries more numerous, and her sleep even less...
After finally peeling herself off the metaphorical superglue, she realized there was an extra arm wrapped around her waist. Looking down, she frowned instantly and turned around to smack the person beside her.
Christopher Hart woke abruptly from his sleepy haze, startled, and raised his head in confusion. "What’s going on? What happened?!"
Amelia gritted her teeth, "Didn’t you say you’d get up early today and go back to take the kids to kindergarten? It’s already seven!"
Christopher exhaled in relief, letting his head sink back onto the pillow. "You scared me..."
He actually thought there was an earthquake.
Though he shut his eyes again, he couldn’t ignore the piercing laser-like glare he felt on him. His lips curved into a seductive smirk as he slowly reopened his eyes. "Is this my fault? If you hadn’t been so... enthusiastic last night, I wouldn’t have overslept."
"Smack!" The woman unapologetically swatted him again before angrily getting out of bed to wash up.
While brushing her teeth, her phone rang with a video call request.
She didn’t even need to look to know it was definitely from the three little ones.
Ugh...
How was she supposed to explain to them why their dad didn’t come home last night?
"Hi... babies, good morning!" She answered the call, placing the phone on the bathroom counter while still brushing her teeth and greeting them.
Hope’s little face appeared front and center, visibly upset: "Mommy! Daddy didn’t come home last night! He must’ve gone out to do bad things while you weren’t around!"
Back in the bedroom, Mr. Hart lay on the big bed, contentedly closing his eyes as he listened to his daughter’s voice echoing from the bathroom. His lips curled up in amusement.
This little girl—her IQ had seemingly taken a leave of absence.
Amelia awkwardly laughed, but before she could say anything, Ethan jumped in: "Sis, I told you—Daddy wouldn’t dare do bad things behind Mommy’s back, not even if you gave him a million guts! Daddy surely went out to find Mommy last night and slept with her instead. Ask Mommy if you don’t believe me."
On the bed, Mr. Hart’s seductive smile instantly froze, his expression becoming hilariously complex.
Was his current humility, cowardice, and pathetic state really so transparent—even to a five-year-old?
"Ahem!" Amelia, startled by Ethan’s words, accidentally swallowed a mouthful of toothpaste foam, choking awkwardly.
Hope asked crisply, "Mommy, is brother right? Did Daddy go to find you?"
"Cough... cough, cough—"
She choked until her face turned red, unable to respond.
Noah flatly declared, "Seems like I hit the nail on the head." Then he sighed, "Oh, it’s true—parents are real love, children are just accidents."
Ethan chimed in, "Exactly! How long has it been since Daddy showed us some fatherly love? It’s just gone now, poof! Too unfair!"
Imagine leaving behind three smart, adorable kids just to enjoy a couple’s world!
"We don’t even bother you usually, do we?"
"We’re mature, well-behaved babies. We don’t even ask to sleep with you anymore."
"What’s the point of sneaking off then?"
"Is it because Uncle Fuller and Aunt Harper are in the way?"
Aunt Harper quickly shook her head and waved her hands, "No, no, no, Master Noah, we’re also very mature and understanding!"
Uncle Fuller and Aunt Harper clarified that they had been trying their best to play deaf and dumb and absolutely did not disturb the couple’s personal lives!
"Exactly! With my dad’s temperament, who’d dare interrupt his fun? They’d be asking for it!"
The three little ones practically sounded like a comedy troupe, each chiming in turn, leaving Amelia utterly unable to get a word in or offer an explanation.
And honestly, she really didn’t have the energy to explain.
On the big bed, Christopher originally felt humiliated for his "shameful" position in front of the kids.
But their later quips successfully tickled his funny bone.
Nowadays, these kids—they were definitely little troublemakers!
Amelia wished more than anything she were an ostrich so she could bury her head in the sand.
This was just too, too, too embarrassing!
After painstakingly calming down the angry little trio, urging them not to be late for school, and finally hanging up the call, Amelia hurriedly rinsed her mouth, washed her face, and stormed out.
"Christopher Hart! You—"
"Why not today? Strike while the iron’s hot and get the marriage license right away?" He interrupted her mid-sentence.
Mr. Hart, now fully awake, sat casually at the head of the bed, looking refreshed and spirited, casually dropping a bombshell.
Amelia froze in shock, glaring at his infuriating face, her fingers clenched into fists. "Have you heard what the kids said? Aren’t you embarrassed?!"
He spoke leisurely, "Precisely because it’s embarrassing, we should handle the real business quickly. You can move into Imperial Garden, and then this kind of thing won’t happen again."
"..." Amelia felt like she was going to explode from anger dealing with this guy.
"New Year’s is coming soon. Think of it as my New Year’s gift?" Undeterred by her eye-roll, he continued stoking the fire.
Amelia laughed angrily, "Why would I? You’ve got some nerve asking me for a New Year’s gift!"
"Obviously. After all, you’ve slept with me so many times—don’t you intend to take responsibility? Is this the kind of example you want to set for the kids?"
"???!!" Amelia was dumbstruck—WHAT did he just say?!
"A simple title—that’s all. Why not just grant me the honor?"
Unable to listen any longer, she angrily turned and stormed out the door.
Just as she reached the door, she couldn’t hold back and swung around to mock, "I slept with you? Christopher Hart, you’re flipping reality upside down and spewing nonsense—what kind of example is that for the kids? When did you become such a double-standard jerk?"
Yes, this man was a dog! Such a dog!
"That’s such an injustice to me." Christopher smiled shamelessly, glancing down at himself before spreading his hands. "Look at me—heart willing but strength lacking."
Amelia: "Fine. It’s an injustice. I get it. Wonderful."
Every single time, it was clearly him who shamelessly begged her, forcing her to "take the lead."
And now? He’d twisted the situation, making himself out to be the victim of her "bullying"! Even demanding she take responsibility and give him a title!
Christopher had no idea when he developed this taste for teasing Amelia. He just enjoyed verbally sparring with her, watching her grow so angry her cheeks flushed red as if she wanted to bite him.
But today...
Maybe he’d gone too far.
Seeing her furious figure storm off, Christopher panicked. "Hey! I haven’t even gotten out of bed! Help me out, Amelia—"
Amelia ignored him entirely and headed downstairs gracefully and confidently to go to work.
On the way, she, still fuming, remembered the task at hand and quickly called the company’s legal team to check how yesterday’s arrangements were coming along.
But the reply informed her the lawyer responsible for this area happened to be on a business trip out of River City for the next few days. They offered to introduce a colleague from another law firm to handle it.
Amelia had no choice but to agree.
At the company, she checked her account balance, and her face immediately sank into gloom.
After a bad night’s sleep, her mind was foggy, and thinking about the remaining gap of over 200,000 still needing to be filled gave her a headache—looks like she’d have to borrow from Snow.
She called Snow Fitch, who didn’t hesitate before transferring her the money.
Just in time, the lawyer also arrived. Amelia got up and, together with the lawyer, met the employee representatives. She paid them and had them sign the agreement, ensuring no future disputes would arise.
After hustling until noon, she finally wrapped things up. She planned to grab a quick meal to fill her stomach, then head to the company’s break room to rest. Just as she lay down, her phone rang.
The number looked familiar but wasn’t saved in her contacts. Feeling slightly puzzled, she picked up, "Hello, who is this..."
