Chapter 342: Storm Brewing
Chapter 342: Chapter 342: Storm Brewing
Christopher hasn’t been to the company since the incident.
During this time, Seal-Cloud Corporation has faced many challenges.
Aside from the internal family feuds within the Hart Family that Benny Palmer mentioned, external competition and pressure were no small matter either.
After all, Christopher’s incident was a major one, and whether he could fully recover in the future remained uncertain.
Many competitors were eagerly hoping for his demise, wishing for chaos within Seal-Cloud Corporation, so they could take advantage of the turmoil and eliminate a powerful rival.
Fortunately, Benny Palmer has been his close friend since childhood—so close they could, as the saying goes, "share the same pair of pants."
As a result, no matter how intense the conflicts or how immense the pressure, Benny has done his best to hold things together.
But now, the internal divisions have grown increasingly severe, and the royal relatives of the Hart Family are collectively "rejecting outsiders," aiming to oust him from the board, or even from Seal-Cloud Corporation entirely.
With no other option, he could only leave the task of handling the "internal upheaval" to his reliable brother.
When Christopher arrived at the company, Benny was still stuck in the conference room, blocked by several company elders. They were deadlocked over differing perspectives on two projects.
Lucas King came to the ground floor to meet Christopher. While pushing him into the company, he recounted recent events.
Thinking Christopher had lost his memory, Lucas provided quite a bit of background information, only to be interrupted halfway through by Christopher: "I’ve remembered everything about the past. Just tell me what’s going on today."
Lucas was stunned. "President Hart, your memory’s back?"
As soon as he said it, he felt an icy shift in his boss’s aura and immediately realized his slip. He quickly corrected himself, "I...I mean, you’ve recovered—that’s wonderful!"
Christopher: "..."
"Here’s the situation today. About that senior living complex project, Young Master Palmer’s view is..."
Lucas began explaining today’s events. Christopher listened intently as the group strode through the company lobby, their imposing demeanor drawing the surprised gazes of bystanders.
"President Hart is back? President Hart has recovered!"
"Recovered from what? Don’t you see he’s in a wheelchair? I heard he barely survived, but his legs are done for. Such a pity."
"Pity? The man’s legs are useless, yet he still has more money than he could spend in several lifetimes. You should go pity yourself instead."
"Fair enough!"
"But honestly, even in a wheelchair, President Hart is still so dashing and charming! And now he has this delicate, slightly tragic aura...ugh, I can’t handle it!"
"..."
While employees gossiped behind the scenes, they greeted him with utmost respect in person, bowing and offering polite salutations.
Even seated in a wheelchair, Christopher emanated an innate air of nobility and aloofness, entirely untouched.
This was a grace and refinement cultivated through generations in a prestigious family of wealth and influence.
The conference room door opened, and the heated arguments inside came to an abrupt halt.
The elders weren’t surprised to see Christopher appear.
After all, they’d already received word as soon as he entered the company building.
Still, appearances had to be maintained.
"Christopher? Why have you suddenly come back?"
"Indeed, your injury hasn’t healed yet; you should rest well. If you don’t, it could have lasting consequences."
Their words of concern came one after another, but the sincerity behind them was self-evident.
Christopher smiled faintly, not taking offense. His first words, however, were laced with thinly-veiled barbs: "If I don’t come back to take a look, I fear I may soon lose the right to even step through the company’s doors."
At this, the false smiles on their faces froze instantly.
Only Benny Palmer subtly smirked with amusement.
He’d thought these people were formidable, but one glimpse of the real boss, and they immediately tucked their tails between their legs.
It only served to prove how deep a shadow Christopher had cast over them.
Extreme fear often leads to rebellion—it’s no wonder they wanted to "seize power."
With Christopher present, he listened to both sides’ arguments and impartially shared his perspective.
Though the elders weren’t convinced, they couldn’t find grounds to refute him for the time being.
The matter was left unresolved.
Back in the CEO’s office, Christopher glanced around at the spotless, well-maintained room, as if he’d never left, and felt a hint of surprise.
Lucas, mindful that he might’ve upset his boss earlier, immediately tried to curry favor: "President Hart, I’ve had someone clean the office thoroughly every day, always hoping you’d come back anytime."
Christopher glanced at him. "Oh? Then I must thank you."
Lucas’s lips twitched involuntarily. "You’re too kind—no thanks necessary..."
Benny dragged a chair over, sat down, and sighed. "Honestly, you can’t blame them for wanting to rebel. You, Tyrant King, terrify them too much."
Christopher replied indifferently, "A CEO position belongs to the competent. Back then, the old man gave them chances."
"Agreed, agreed. You’re impressive as ever," Benny flattered with a sly grin before turning serious. "But this time, I fear their rebellious intentions won’t be so easily suppressed."
"What do you mean?"
"They’ve connected with my family’s lot, pulling strings behind the scenes. You know the situation in my family. It’s even more chaotic than yours. My dad’s been asking me to go back, and I’ve been putting it off. Now the chaos has reached its peak, and my dad’s issued a final ultimatum—he wants me to return and help out immediately."
"And how do you know those people have partnered up with your family’s lot?"
Benny sneered slightly. "In such a circle, with business dinners and social gatherings, chance encounters are inevitable. I wanted to bring it up at your place earlier, but seeing Amelia there, I stopped to avoid worrying her. In any case, they’re fully prepared this time. You must be extra careful."
People often say self-interest drives human nature. Christopher and his father had managed Seal-Cloud Corporation for decades, but the extended family members had long harbored resentment.
Unfortunately for them, neither their skills nor means could rival Christopher’s. So they had no choice but to endure silently.
Now, with Christopher’s health compromised, they saw their best opportunity.
If they managed to also force out Benny, given Christopher’s current physical state, how could he possibly manage the chaotic situation?
In this case, resolving Seal-Cloud Corporation’s internal crisis would be far from easy.
Benny, seeing Christopher’s silence, assumed he was in a bind and added, "If your health can’t handle it, I can hold the fort a bit longer. As for my family, my dad can manage."
"No need. Wrap up your work and return as soon as possible."
"But you—"
"Don’t worry. My body is failing, but my mind works just fine. I’ll handle them for now. Who wins and who loses is yet to be seen."
"Alright, I’ll hand over my work as quickly as I can. If you encounter any issues, let me know anytime."
"Alright." Christopher looked at his close friend, suddenly overcome by a rare wave of sentimentality. "These years, I couldn’t have done this without you. Without your help, Seal-Cloud Corporation wouldn’t be where it is today. I know I can be sharp-tongued and harsh—don’t take it personally."
At this, not only was Benny astonished, his eyes wide as he stared at Christopher, but even Lucas looked like he’d seen a ghost, gawking at him in disbelief.
Christopher, noting their expressions, frowned and turned stern again. "What are those looks for?"
Benny burst out laughing. "Tsk tsk, seems like falling in love has really changed you! You’ve even started self-reflecting. Amelia Garcia must be a miracle worker to have melted the heart of an arrogant, stubborn iceberg like you!"
"..."
"Truly a rare sight. All the scoldings I’ve endured over the years feel worth it now!"
"Enough."
"Haha, not enough, not enough... Since I’m about to leave, if there’s anything else you want to confess to me, now’s the time."
"Get out! Just hurry up and leave!"
