Scum Daddy Dreams Of Stealing My Mommy! -
Chapter 286: Do You Feel Sorry for Me?
Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Do You Feel Sorry for Me?
Amelia’s mind was still buzzing, watching his painful and weak appearance made her feel as if the pain was on her own body, so much so that she felt dizzy.
Christopher Hart had his eyes closed but was still mumbling instructions, "Home doctor, that will be enough..."
Aunt Harper looked at Amelia Garcia, "Ma’am, this..."
The latter slowly came back to her senses and calmed down, she had no choice but to say, "Then call the home doctor over."
"Alright, I’m going right now!"
The three little ones stepped forward.
Noah asked, "Mom, did Dad fall because he was being naughty?"
Ethan asked, "Mom, Dad’s going to be alright, isn’t he?"
Hope cried, "Dad looks so painful, wuh wuh wuh..."
Amelia squatted down, tried to compose her face, and comforted the children, "Dad’s going to be okay, the pain will be gone soon, you all continue playing."
"We want to stay with Dad..."
The children refused to leave, and Amelia didn’t want to force them to go.
By the bedside, the caregiver and Fuller resettled Christopher Hart, swiftly cleaned the floor, and then stepped aside.
Amelia approached and saw that the pain on his face seemed to have subsided a bit, which settled her anxious heart somewhat.
The caregiver brought over the home medicine chest, found a sterile gauze, and covered Christopher Hart’s bleeding forehead with it.
"Let me do it..." Amelia quickly took over, gently pressing it to his forehead.
Fortunately, the bleeding wasn’t severe.
It was probably just his forehead hitting the edge of the nightstand, causing the skin to be punctured.
"How is it, still very painful?" she asked with a frown.
The man, eyes closed, his handsome face even more angular, muttered, "What do you think..."
Hearing him retort with confidence, Amelia couldn’t help but flare up, "Serves you right! Who else is to blame?"
"..."
He remained silent, and Amelia suddenly felt she had gone too far, scolding him seemed useless after his fall.
Changing her thoughts, she started rambling again, "Your head was already seriously injured, it had just started recovering, and now you’ve taken a fall again. What if the healing bones crack again? What about the surgical cuts and internal injuries on your body..."
Her gaze drifted downward, sweeping over the man’s entire body with anxious, distressed eyes, then she urged again, "You should still go to the hospital to have it checked."
"I’m not going..."
Christopher Hart was still in pain and didn’t want to talk much, just uttered two words before he clenched his lips tight again.
Amelia was at a loss with him and didn’t make another sound.
The man lay quietly for a while then lifted one hand, reaching towards her.
"What’s wrong?" Amelia thought he was trying to do something, quickly grabbed his palm with her other hand, and asked anxiously.
"Nothing..." he replied, his Adam’s apple bobbed, holding her hand and slowly lowering it back to the side of the bed.
It seemed... he just wanted to hold her hand, seeking some comfort.
Amelia, though angry, didn’t dare struggle anymore, letting him hold her hand.
Aunt Harper, after finishing the phone call, saw the interaction between the two and wisely took the three little ones out, leaving the couple alone.
They sat quietly for a good while, Amelia watching him, noticing his breathing became gradually steady, and his complexion smoothed out; she thought he had fallen asleep, so she gently removed the gauze from his forehead.
Leaning close, she saw the bleeding had stopped, and made out a wound across his forehead.
Thinking he was asleep, she decided not to disturb him, intending to pull her hand from the grip of his palm, cover him with a blanket, and leave the room.
But just as she began to move her hand, he pressed down again, "Don’t move, just stay with me..."
She startled, "You weren’t asleep?"
He kept his eyes closed, not speaking again.
Amelia understood, he was definitely still in pain.
"Christopher Hart..." her voice was soft and gentle, in a tone of reasoned negotiation, "If you’re uncomfortable, just go to the hospital for a check-up, that way everyone can be relieved, okay? Don’t tough it out, a small issue could become severe, and in the end, you’d be the one suffering."
Christopher Hart then opened his eyes, trying hard to see clearly, however, his vision was still blurry.
He frowned, appearing distraught, and after a while, he said, "Don’t worry, really, there’s nothing wrong, I wanted to enjoy holding your hand more because I saw you were lenient."
"..." Amelia’s face darkened, the previous gentleness instantly disappearing as she pulled her hand away sharply, "You really are—"
She had forgotten how scheming this man could be!
"I’m done with you, I’m going downstairs to eat and then I’m leaving!" She got up to leave just as Aunt Harper and the home doctor walked in.
Aunt Harper announced, "Ma’am, the home doctor is here."
"Fine, have him take a look."
She continued walking out of the room, pausing in the hallway but not leaving.
After hearing from the doctor that there probably wasn’t anything serious, just to observe for now without immediate hospitalization, she finally felt relieved and turned to go downstairs.
In the bedroom, the doctor disinfected and dressed Christopher Hart’s forehead wound, advised care instructions, and then started packing up the medical kit to leave.
Aunt Harper went to escort the home doctor, leaving Christopher Hart alone in the room for a moment.
He opened his eyes again.
This time, there was a vague glow in his sight.
Lifting his hand, he could faintly make out his five fingers.
His heartbeat was a bit erratic.
He was scared it was all a dream, fleeting in a moment.
Yes, his eyes... seemed to be able to perceive some light.
—Maybe it was from just now, when he hit his head on the nightstand, shifting the stagnation inside his brain.
Earlier, holding onto Amelia’s hand, part of it was cherishing her rare tender compromise, and part was suppressing the surging emotions, debating whether to tell her.
After all, it wasn’t confirmed yet, and his vision hadn’t fully recovered.
He was afraid if he woke up without any improvement but instead fell back into darkness, it would only lead to her disappointment.
In the end, he decided to wait, and so he didn’t mention being able to sense light.
If in a couple of days, or perhaps when he woke up tomorrow, he could see completely, he would then give her a surprise.
"President Hart, your wife said—" Fuller suddenly came in, saw him raising his hand in mid-air, paused in his original words, and quickly turned, "President Hart, are you reaching for something?"
Christopher lowered his arm, his eyes returning to a vacant state, and cleared his throat, "Bring me a glass of water."
"Oh, okay." Fuller went to the cupboard, poured some water, put a straw in the glass, and brought it over to the bed.
Christopher took a couple of sips of water, then lay back down, "What were you about to say?"
"The madam says you should just eat in your room and not bother getting up, so as to avoid another accident."
"Sounds good..."
"Then I’ll bring up dinner."
"Right," he responded, hearing the footsteps fading away before he added, "Have the madam come up."
In the dining room, Amelia had just taken care of the three little ones when she heard Fuller’s words, her exquisite and stunning face fell, and she put her chopsticks down.
The three kids all looked up simultaneously, toward their mother with the stern face.
Aunt Harper immediately smiled and smoothed things over, "Madam, I’ll take care of the children, you go upstairs and eat with your husband, you were probably frightened earlier, this is not the time to be angry with him."
Noah commented, "Dad really acts even more like a kid than us."
Ethan, "So this is what an old kid is like, huh?"
Hope, "That’s not it, you guys don’t understand, Dad is hurt and can’t eat by himself, so he needs mom to feed him."
Noah, "Only you, miss naïve, would believe that."
Their Scumbag Father is a cunning old fox!
After their sibling relationship had improved, as a super sister-loving brother, he occasionally directed his sharp tongue at his sister too.
Hope, puffed up with anger, "I’m not stupid! You’re the stupid one, second brother!"
"Hey! I didn’t say you guys, it’s fine if you argue, but why bring me into this!" said second brother innocently, his mouth full of chicken leg, protesting angrily.
"Alright, you guys eat quietly, I’m going upstairs." Overwhelmed by the children’s back and forth, Amelia suddenly felt that going upstairs to be with someone might be a good choice.
So, carrying dinner, she went upstairs again.
Christopher looked towards the doorway, and as the woman walked in, he could see a blurry figure.
—It was like watching someone walking with a strong backlight, forming a vaporous, swaying image.
"Feeling any better?" Amelia put down the dinner, looking at him.
"Still hurts a bit..." He was honest, not pretending to be strong.
Amelia snorted coldly, without responding, propped up two pillows behind him, and brought the food over.
"You could actually use your hands freely now, why not eat by yourself?"
"Can’t see, afraid I’ll poke it into my nose."
The woman chuckled, "With your intelligence, that shouldn’t really happen, right?"
And even if he did feed himself wrongly at first, after a few tries, he would surely manage to grasp the direction and distance.
However, Amelia didn’t insist he had to eat on his own.
While feeding him, she recalled the schedule for the coming days, "I have to go on a business trip the day after tomorrow, I mentioned it to you before, to report back to headquarters."
His eyebrows furrowed slightly, "The day after tomorrow?"
"Yes, tomorrow is the new product launch, and after that, I have to leave; I’ll try to get back as soon as possible."
"How many days?"
"It will probably take five or six days."
"You said you’d return soon but still need that long?"
The woman pursed her lips and hesitated before explaining, "I did live in Zurich for over four years, now that I’ve decided to return to my country, I have many things to handle, so naturally, it will take a few days."
Christopher’s face showed fluctuations, a mix of excitement and happiness, "You’re finally not leaving? Decided to develop your career here?"
Amelia felt irked, "With you like this, how could I leave? Even if I wanted to, those three kids wouldn’t allow it!"
Knowing yet asking, really pretentious.
Mr. Hart’s smile became more pronounced, but he spoke politely, "It seems I’m the reason you are stuck here."
After she didn’t respond immediately, he promptly added, "But don’t expect me to feel guilty about it."
"..." Amelia clenched her teeth, really wanting to stuff the food up his nose and suffocate him!
Mr. Hart, disregarding his beloved woman’s mood, continued in a magnanimous tone, "Then go. Settle those trivial matters, and don’t run off so far away afterwards."
Amelia looked surprised and scoffed, "I thought you wouldn’t let me go."
"I’m not that unreasonable."
"Ha!" Her sarcastic laugh became clearer.
"While I’m gone these few days, you behave yourself too. Fuller will still bring the triplets over to visit you daily, and if..."
She spoke like reminding a child going far away, filled with unease, pausing before saying, "If you need me, call. But I’ll be busy and with the time difference, I might not be able to answer right away. Don’t panic and get all worked up if you can’t reach me immediately."
Christopher arched his eyebrows in apparent dissatisfaction, "Why do you see me as a ticking bomb?"
"Isn’t it so?"
"I worry about you, and get anxious when I can’t find you."
The woman muttered, "I think it’s just your possessiveness—"
Which leads you to despair when you can’t find someone momentarily, making you want to dig three feet into the ground.
Initially, her words were accusatory, expecting him to argue, yet to her surprise, he nodded vigorously in agreement, "Hmm, possible. Loving someone too much makes one want to control every moment of their life."
"..." Really shameless.
"Amelia, as long as you give me enough security, I will also try to let go a bit and give you the appropriate freedom," the man stared in her direction, earnestly and loftily pronouncing these words.
What?
He’s suggesting that his possessiveness is all her fault? Because she didn’t provide enough security, so he...
Amelia turned her head away, closed her eyes, and composed herself, several times she wanted to argue but felt it a waste of words, finally letting out a deep breath, ferociously, "Eat!"
As she cleaned up the dishes, Amelia glanced at the time—it was not early anymore.
"Alright, sleep early, stumbling so unexpectedly. You should just behave from now on."
Mr. Hart must have passed the phase of pain, his eyes gazing towards that blurry swaying light, his lips slightly curved, "Stumbling and seeing you so worried is, after all, worth it."
"..." The woman, not bothering to respond, carried the leftover food away, and walked off.
