Chapter 22 Hilarious Close Encounters

Chapter 22: Chapter 22 Hilarious Close Encounters

After all, he was one of the parties involved, and if he chose to clarify, his words would hold the most persuasive power.

The elevator reached the first floor, and the man strode out, speaking indifferently, "Miss Norton, do me a favor, and I’ll owe you one, we’ll be even."

Amelia laughed, boldly correcting, "The trouble I’m in is because of you, it’s only right that you should settle it."

Christopher turned back to look at her, seemingly surprised that someone dared to speak to him in such a manner.

Yet Amelia was neither humble nor arrogant, meeting his gaze, "What, am I wrong?"

The man remained silent, looked away, and for some reason, his interest in this woman intensified.

Even though she was not the once-dead Amelia, but the very real Clarke Norton, she had piqued his interest enough.

Lucas King stood beside the Bentley luxury car, and seeing them come out together, he smiled and promptly opened the rear door, "President Hart, Miss Norton."

Seeing that she was to share the backseat with this man, Amelia’s scalp went numb.

At such close distance, his powerful presence, his dominating aura, how could she keep her composure?

The woman felt some regret, but it was too late to back out.

The door shut, and she tensely clutched her nerves, sitting close to the door on one side, keeping her distance from the man.

Christopher noticed and hinted, "Miss Norton, I don’t bite."

"Heh, it’s better to keep a distance between men and women, according to propriety."

In the front, Lucas, who had gotten into the driver’s seat, heard this and started the engine, hitting the road.

The night sky grew dark, city lights began to shine, and the streets were awash with flowing colors.

Since Amelia had returned to the country, she had been busy every day and hadn’t had the time to truly look at the city.

Now, sitting in the spacious and comfortable luxury car, admiring the bustling night scene, she suddenly realized that the city had changed a lot in four years.

"Has River City changed much since you left?" The man’s deep and attractive voice suddenly broke the silence in the car, startling Amelia.

She turned to look at his cold and deep features, and smiled slightly, "I emigrated with my parents when I was very young, and hadn’t come back for many years."

"Is that so?"

Seeing his smile held a deeper meaning, Amelia turned the tables, "President Hart, you keep probing, what are you really after? Do you suspect that your ex-wife has been reincarnated?"

The man smiled again, "Miss Norton, my ex-wife—"

"Shh!"

"Ah..."

Christopher had not finished speaking when the smoothly driving car suddenly swerved sharply, and both were thrown violently to the side by the inertia.

Amelia clutched the car door handle tightly, her heart nearly leaping out of her throat.

"Sorry! That car suddenly cut in front! President Hart, are you both okay?" Lucas looked into the rearview mirror, hastily apologizing.

"It’s fine..." the man replied with a frown.

Amelia steadied herself, her chaotic heartbeats not yet settled, just thankful that she had held on tight, or else she would have certainly fallen into Christopher’s arms.

The car continued on, and Lucas, watching the rearview mirror with frustration...

Her grip was truly strong! Such a huge inertial force, and she hadn’t been flung into the boss’s arms, he would need to try harder.

The accident disrupted the conversation, and both quite tacitly fell silent, one continued to look out the window, the other took out his phone to check work messages.

Lucas drove while wracking his brains, thinking about how else he could subtly create an opportunity for the boss to gather evidence—suddenly, he saw a spot to make a U-turn!

The car didn’t slow down at all, and as it approached the U-turn, Lucas swung the steering wheel around, almost drifting past.

"Ah—"

Amelia let out a scared cry, her body being flung outwards by the centrifugal force, but she gripped the car door handle tightly, pulling herself back in.

This time, even Christopher couldn’t avoid the trouble—slamming hard into the car door on his side.

The next second, President Hart erupted in fury.

"You don’t want to work anymore?!"

Amelia couldn’t help but mock, "Mr. King, with such terrible driving skills, how did you manage to get hired as the executive assistant to the president of Seal-Cloud Corporation? Who would’ve thought that Seal-Cloud, of all companies, would have such low hiring standards!"

Lucas King, with his good intentions that ended in suffering, could not express his difficulties...

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, President Hart, Miss Norton... The road was too slippery, and I was concerned about Miss Hope’s condition, so I wanted to hurry back..." He explained nervously, finding an excuse for his abnormal behavior.

Christopher wasn’t a fool; he glanced outside at the road and realized that Lucas King had intentionally taken a detour, seemingly just for that U-turn, and suddenly understood something.

This fool was deliberately creating opportunities, trying to get that woman to fall into his arms—providing himself a chance to pluck some hair from her head.

But that woman regarded him as a dreadful beast, maintaining a distance from him as soon as she got in the car, sticking close to the door and holding tightly to the handle.

Considering this blatantly abnormal and foolish behavior, President Hart’s face contorted in discomfort, his hand massaging his temple.

Hopefully, the woman wouldn’t notice anything, or she might think he had instructed his subordinate to act this way so he could take advantage of her.

Amelia certainly did notice something odd.

If you say a sudden turn that throws people off balance is an accident, but twice in a row is just over the top, isn’t it?

But if it’s intentional, what would the motive be?

After a brief contemplation, Amelia realized that both severe turns had thrown her towards Christopher...

So—he intended to fling her into Christopher’s arms on purpose?

This... this cliché romantic plot, she never would have imagined it happening to her in real life.

She turned her head, giving someone a weird and disdainful look.

Christopher frowned deeply, his slender fingers massaging his temples, and noticing the woman’s gaze, he turned his eyes towards her.

"What do you mean by that?" he asked, raising his head seriously.

"What do you think?"

"That’s not what I meant!"

"Oh? President Hart knows what I mean?"

"In any case, it’s not what you’re thinking!" The man seemed to become a bit angry and frustrated, his tone heavy.

Seeing that he was angry, Amelia didn’t bother to argue any further; she snorted coldly, turned her head away, and muttered, "Men are all the same."

In the front, Lucas King, not understanding the situation, cautiously asked, "President Hart, Miss Norton, are you guys spouting tongue twisters?"

President Hart, already annoyed, turned his head and snapped, "Just drive properly! If you try to be clever again, you can get out!"

"...Yes." Lucas King trembled with fright, not daring to cause any more trouble, and drove carefully.

Amelia, sensing someone’s anger and hearing the subtext in his words, suddenly understood something.

Could it be that tossing her into his arms wasn’t to cop a feel or flirt, but for something else?

As she racked her brain, an idea suddenly flashed through her mind...

Could it be that he was trying to get close to her to pluck her hair for a paternity test?

With that thought, Amelia broke out in a cold sweat!

Too risky!

Luckily she was prepared from the start; as soon as she got into the car, she stayed close to the door, gripping the handle tightly.

If not, it would have been over for her!

With this realization, Amelia became even more cautious and vigilant, reminding herself to always remember to keep her distance from him.
