Chapter 147: Chapter 147 Launching the Curve Wife-Chasing Plan

Amelia Garcia was stunned.

What... situation was this?

She had thought that after saying those words, he would definitely be furious, and the two would irreparably fall out.

From then on, she would no longer see her daughter and, in despair, would have no choice but to flee again.

But...

Why wasn’t he playing by the rules?

"How so, you’re still unwilling? Could it be that you can’t let go of your identity as a kin of the European Royalty, eager to rush back and marry him?"

"What are you talking about!"

"Did I say something wrong?"

Amelia pursed her lips, unable to respond to that.

Her relationship with Kane... even if she had agreed, it probably wouldn’t have worked out in the end.

Setting aside her commoner status, she was also burdened with two children, and Kane’s family would surely never accept it.

After a brief silence, Christopher Hart suddenly unclenched his fists, patted his knee, turned around, and pushed the door open. "Alright, you take Hope and go back today. She will surely be happy to see her mother by her side when she wakes up. She has disliked me these past few days."

What?

Amelia was surprised again.

He was willingly letting Hope stay with her?

"Hey!" As she saw the man about to leave, she quickly called out.

Christopher Hart stopped and turned back, "What is it?"

Amelia didn’t even know what it was.

It was just that... when you always see someone as vile, everything they do seems despicable, and you hate them in your heart— but suddenly, they change for the better, even sacrificing their interests to accommodate you; you might then introspect, wondering if you were too harsh, had you thought too poorly of them?

Perhaps they weren’t so bad after all?

Amelia Garcia was a person with a kind heart.

Or possibly, for some reasons, she could never truly hate Christopher Hart.

So at this moment, she genuinely felt guilty and remorseful, wondering if her words earlier had hurt him too much?

"I... I can’t stay in this country." Under his deep, dark gaze, her thoughts scrambled, and finally returned to the main issue.

She couldn’t stay.

Because she had two sons who couldn’t be discovered by him.

"Why?" Christopher Hart felt a surge of anger rising, but he quickly suppressed it.

It was clear that she was wavering, indicating that a softer policy was effective.

He must not lose his temper again and ruin everything.

"Is it that man asking you to go back with him?" he pressed.

Amelia’s cheeks flushed red, thankful that the dimness of the car hid her face.

"No... not entirely. Mainly, I’ve been abroad for several years and there are too many things I can’t leave behind. And in this country... because of everything that happened recently, my reputation is ruined, staying here... might not be a good thing."

"The recent events can be dealt with. The incident involving Lily Garcia donating a kidney was a scam and also involved illegal organ trading; once the court completes its judgment, a document will be released, and I will also make a statement to clear your name."

Amelia looked at him, her earlier resoluteness and distance replaced with a much softer demeanor and tone. "You don’t have to do this, to keep explaining to the public for me."

He was naturally a proud person; it was really unnecessary for him to humble himself like this.

"Don’t think too much, I just consider you as Hope’s mother, nothing more."

His words made Amelia seem overly sentimental.

Seeing her not responding, the man asked again, "Is there any other reason you absolutely must leave?"

"There is, but I can’t say," the woman responded in her heart.

Yet, her lips ultimately remained silent.

Her daughter was in her arms, and she felt an intense longing not to let go.

After much contemplation, she decided that they should end the conversation for tonight and that she would think through a proper solution to satisfy both sides before making a decision.

"If you don’t speak, I will take it as your agreement to stay and raise Hope together," Christopher Hart said, before turning around and pushing the car door open again.

The inside of the car became quiet, and Amelia Garcia relaxed, leaning softly against the back seat.

What should I do...

Her resolved decision had been thrown into turmoil again by Christopher’s change in attitude.

In front of the car, the bright headlights turned and then drove away.

She looked up, watching Christopher walk away, then glanced at her daughter left in her arms, feeling more disturbed.

Her phone pinged, a WhatsApp message.

She opened it to see it was from Snow Fitch.

"How’s the situation? Did Hope get taken away? Are you home yet?"

She took a deep breath, lowered her head to look at the screen, and typed a reply: "He came and then left. He said he’s leaving Hope with me and asked me to stay with her for a few days."

Snow Fitch immediately called, "What happened? He proposed leaving Hope with you?"

"Yes," Amelia nodded, her voice melancholic as she said, "Snow, I can’t figure him out anymore."

"I don’t understand either, what did you guys talk about?"

"Nothing much, I just stood my ground, told him I am leaving and won’t fight with him for Hope, thanked him for his past care—I thought he would be angry, but he listened calmly and asked me to stay. He said he wouldn’t trouble me anymore and that we would raise Hope together."

"What?" Snow Fitch was stunned, speechless for a moment before managing to say, "Is he using reverse psychology? Knowing you’re soft-hearted, deliberately using sweet words to corrode you."

Amelia had considered that.

But his words were too tempting, and despite knowing it might be a deception, she couldn’t help but be fooled.

"Maybe, you should just wait and see how it goes. If he keeps his word and doesn’t trouble you, allowing you to see Hope anytime, then maybe you should stay! And you could send Noah and Ethan away, you can use the excuse of a business trip to the headquarters, running between places. That way, it’ll just be hard on you."

Amelia’s mind was still a mess, "Let’s see, I’ll take Hope home first."

"Okay."

————

Christopher Hart immediately called Benny Palmer as soon as he got into the car.

Young Master Palmer smiled and asked, "Did you find the person?"

He didn’t respond, but asked directly, "How is the progress of the energy project in Europe?"

Benny Palmer was surprised, "The energy project in Europe? Wasn’t that project killed in a board meeting before? It requires a huge investment and the political issues are complex; the risks are too high."

"Start it up. Is it still possible to submit a project bid now? You handle this matter tomorrow, at any cost, secure this project."

Benny Palmer was utterly confused, "Are you crazy? Why suddenly think of this? Wait, let me think..."

After pondering for a moment, he asked, "Is Amelia still planning to leave? Are you going to follow her to Europe?"

Christopher Hart stared ahead, his expression grim: "Whether she leaves or not isn’t certain, but if that so-called Countess’s brother disappears from her side... I’d like to see where she can go."

"What?" Benny Palmer felt overwhelmed, "How are these two matters necessarily connected?"

"Don’t ask, just do it. If you can’t handle this project, go back to your own company, I don’t keep idlers here," Christopher threatened indifferently.

"Idler?" Benny Palmer was furious, "Hey! Isn’t that a bit much? I’ve been working like an ox for you all these years, and this is how you treat me?"

The Palmer Family also had a vast business empire, but the Palmer clan was more complex than the Hart Family with internal schemes and struggles that were at times a matter of life and death.

Benny Palmer preferred not to work within his own group, actually as a way to preserve his integrity.

Christopher Hart hung up the phone, not caring about his protests, and began contemplating how to drive that royal relative away.
