Shana and Colin walked shoulder to shoulder on the path back to the cathedral hall…
All along the way, although Colin beside her occasionally greeted believers without revealing anything in particular, Shana still keenly sensed that the atmosphere seemed somewhat heavy—
There had been signs of this starting from some time ago.
However, the Bonfire Envoy had not explained the situation to her.
Without asking, Shana walked beside him, chatting idly now and then; she tilted her head up slightly, her delicate and fair face adorned with a pair of pure ice-blue eyes that looked towards the sacred cathedral spewing flames ahead.
Compared to earlier, the cathedral had expanded from a few hundred square meters to nearly thirty thousand square meters, and to a grand structure over a hundred meters tall. Its imposing presence aside, large-caliber cannons protruded from some “mechanical activity windows” on each level…
There were over a hundred of these guns alone on the building’s five levels, capable of harming Third Level Containment Subjects.
They would be difficult for anyone to withstand if fired in unison.
Added to that, the myriad of mysterious inscriptions, the defenses and might of this construct speak for themselves.
The entire “Bonfire Church” was basically completed within just a few months, which certainly could not have been achieved under normal circumstances.
Even if the two of them could use extraordinary means to erect a bare framework, they could not have accomplished something so refined and complete.
Yet Colin mentioned the need for a semi-permanent structure…
Thinking it over, Shana decided to take a risk and used a little trick with Colin.
That is, during the previous period, they ventured deep into the heart of the “Catastrophe of the Magic Fog” to a ruin she had discovered earlier and carried out a war sanctuary from the era of the Holy Light Court, eventually placing it here.
After some modifications and combining it with Level 5 Bonfire discussed by Colin, they achieved the current Great Bonfire Cathedral.
Using “Bonfire” as the energy core for the “war sanctuary”, they compensated for the missing power and thus reactivated the ancient war fortress’s mighty capabilities.
The unexpected compatibility between “Light” and “Flame” was evident.
As for whether this approach might draw opposition from “Light” believers…
Shana felt that in this regard, she should still have some say.
If she declared it as an ancient unclaimed artifact found in ruins, then it stood as unclaimed. After all, her highest surface status granted her final interpretive authority over various matters within the “Light” Church.
And as for the outside-elbowing behavior of their own “Saintess”, they all turned a blind eye and said little more.
After all, if you don’t let her create a stir, she’ll come to create a stir for you.
Choosing the lesser of two evils, plus with the Great Bonfire Cathedral poised as a formidable barrier against the divine calamity of “Magic Fog” before the disaster, it provided them substantial relief from pressure.
So, in the end, no one stood up to oppose it.
Walking into the grand hall, through the lengthy corridors, and arriving at the magnificent burning bonfire, Shana blinked, turned sideways, and asked Colin, who was somewhat “taciturn”, in a gentle tone:
“You seem to be troubled by something?”
Hearing her words, Colin did not respond immediately; he was silent for a few seconds before saying, “It’s not exactly a concern, it’s just that there may be a rather difficult mission coming up soon, and I might not be able to come here for a while.”
“Very difficult?”
Shana pulled up a chair for Colin, gestured him to sit, and then took a seat herself, sitting upright with her legs together.
So far, she had rarely seen Colin frown over a mission; given that it was singled out, this time the task would likely pose a significant challenge…
Shana pressed her lips together lightly and asked gently, “Is there anything I can do to help?”
“It’s hard to say…” Colin shook his head, took a seat casually, adjusted the collar of his custom-fitted “Bonfire” Envoy robe, and habitually crossed his legs.
Under normal circumstances, Shana could support by giving BUFFs or providing sufficiently powerful avatars.
Some of her powerful avatars were almost equal to her main body and could even contain “Level One Containment Subject” entities. Her power had a high origin, but it was not plentiful yet, similar to a “Flame Bearer”.
Using avatars of that caliber came at a cost.
And Colin anticipated that Shana probably wouldn’t make it this time…
But he was not here to seek help; after thinking it over, Colin took a bone spur filled with black rifts from his pocket and handed it over:
“I might not have many scenarios to use this item anymore, you can have it back…”
Upon seeing Colin take out the bone spur, Shana paused for a few seconds, then gently rose, extended her hands to carefully take it, and wrapped it in a clean white handkerchief.
After completing this, Shana looked at the man who had not yet answered her question directly, “It appears this event will be very difficult.”
Otherwise, knowing this man, he would not have abruptly returned the Holy Remains to her.
“It might be somewhat challenging…”
Colin nodded his head and was about to introduce another Shield Emblem-like item when Shana preempted him by saying:
“Keep that Shield Emblem… When I gave you this object, my main hope was for you to master it.”
Pausing for a moment, she looked into Colin’s eyes and continued, “This is an artifact representing a part of the ‘Virtue’ characteristics of the ‘King of Knights’…”
