SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire
Chapter 767 - 767 542 I came in response to the will of Bonfire._2

Chapter 767: 542 I came in response to the will of “Bonfire”._2 Chapter 767: 542 I came in response to the will of “Bonfire”._2 Gazing directly at the white light, the idle thoughts in their hearts seemed to be purified and dissipate…

Gazing directly at the flame, they only felt that everything within themselves began to feel more… “full”?

For a moment, they couldn’t think of how to describe this sensation, but instinctively, they wanted to get closer, even to touch… but reason stopped their actions.

At this point in time, even though their figures appeared quite petite and frail, and the power in their hands seemed obviously gentle, it was this “gentle” method that effortlessly subdued a “Corpse Tyrant”!

One of the most dangerous things they could encounter on this floor!

“This damn place, there actually are people here…”

While being observed, Colin was also sizing up this group. He truly hadn’t expected that people could still be alive on this floor, and even seemed to have formed a small community like some of the doomsday worlds he had encountered before…

However, aside from not being clear on other things, the moment he saw this group, Colin knew that he wouldn’t be able to escape the task of transporting and resettling workers.

Then, glancing at the mission progress bar that had soared to thirty-nine, Colin pondered how to approach and communicate with this group.

So far, aside from being slightly taller and seemingly possessing some extraordinary abilities from their innate talents, there was nothing particularly special about them.

They could be summarized as normal humans—

At least compared to the Fishmen, Silicon-based Crystal People, Stone People, and the Tree People who grew from the fruits on trees, as well as some beings without human form but able to speak and acknowledged as people within the company’s scope…

They were relatively more normal.

But it was still unclear what their internal situation was like, whether it was good or bad.

However, just about ten or so seconds after Colin appeared and during the standoff, a faint voice came from the side:

“Shun, Brother Shunzi…?”

“Hm?” Colin looked over, surprised to see that an employee who had gotten lost was actually here.

But the employee’s condition seemed pretty bad, wrapped up in bandages, severely injured, being held by a robust woman about two meters thirty or forty, like a half-grown child…

It appeared as though he had woken up from his near-death illness due to sensing his power.

“What’s your status?” Colin frowned, causing everyone’s mood to sink.

On hearing this, the Ashen Holy Body struggled to sit up straight; until now, he wasn’t sure if the person was Brother Shunzi.

Because the body was clearly not a human’s, but aside from the body change, everything from the tone of speech and more was exactly like Brother Shunzi.

But now, with the other party not denying it, he knew it was indeed Brother Shunzi.

Taking a deep breath, he said, “I’m alright, Brother Shunzi, be careful with that thing under your feet, it… it will self-destruct!”

If not for that, he would have been injured, but not to the point of being paralyzed.

“Self-destruct? Don’t worry, it’s not a big deal…”

Colin glanced at the Bone Spur stuck in the Third Level Containment Subject’s back, the filthy, stinking black water continually pouring into the stitched creature, causing it immense pain.

Had Colin not been standing on it, it probably would have been thrashing in agony on the ground.

Eventually, it would burst and die within less than two minutes…

Colin pursed his lips, disdainfully saying, “Even if I have become weaker, it doesn’t mean this thing has become more threatening.”

As he spoke, he pressed down forcefully, pinning the monster beneath his feet to the ground.

After all, it was still just a weak Third Level Containment Subject, he could easily deal with it using tools, or even by unleashing “Yukionna” or a three-headed “Mountain of Smiling Corpses,” so it wasn’t a big problem.

The real trouble was this godforsaken place, with the existence of an unknown Level 2 Containment Subject, and even faintly, something more dangerous lingering in the depths…

‘There must be a Level 1 or higher Containment Subject within the hospital.’

He had been uncertain before, but now he could be sure of it.

On the other hand, hearing Colin’s confident words, the Ashen Holy Body with severe injuries all over breathed a sigh of relief.

After all, when Brother Shunzi said he could handle it, there had never been a failure heard.

Because of this interruption, the sturdy women’s wariness towards Colin had diminished significantly.

“There seems to be quite a bit of trouble outside. I can’t keep blocking this opening forever. Where do you plan to go next?”

While speaking, Colin turned to glance outside.

The crack behind him was still there, and if it weren’t for a bonfire he used to block it, a bunch of anomalies would likely surge in. Of course, this also meant that the hospital itself couldn’t repair itself…

So, if there was a chance to change locations, it was best to move to another place.

Upon hearing this, the leader among the group of tall women hesitated, then, instead of rushing outside, she turned and pointed in a direction: “Follow me, retreat, and bring the injured…”

The situation wasn’t dire, so there was ample enough time to evacuate everyone.

Colin nodded, took out a three-liter barrel filled with grease and a mixture of substances from his pocket, planning to leave a surprise for the anomalies that would enter after the flame went out, then followed at the end of the group, volunteering to cover the rear.

Soon, Colin saw that these people swiftly entered the first underground level, opened a room, and revealed a hidden underground passage where everyone dove in.

“Digging tunnels really is a timeless method,” he commented.

After everyone had entered, Colin followed suit. Below was a grey concrete tunnel about five meters wide and eight meters high—a fairly large sewer tunnel.

‘There are quite a few anomalies here…’ Colin sniffed the air, detecting a considerable amount of decay…

However, although there were many anomalies, these women seemed to have their own set of routes. At some passages, they suddenly broke through the walls, revealing their own dug-out tunnels.

Once everyone entered, the concrete walls began to repair themselves, making the route hard to notice.

Then, about ten minutes later, Colin was transferred to another hospital building where, as usual, various bizarre creatures were all over the place.

But they were all within manageable limits…

Just as Colin thought they might stop here, the procession of a hundred or so people continued their relentless march.

They went through another secret underground passage, winding here and there for a considerable distance, eventually arriving at a sealed underground area.

Here, the scent of humans suddenly intensified.

“There must be several hundred to a thousand people. Was this area formerly used as some kind of warehouse?” he wondered.

Colin looked up at the “ceiling” about a dozen meters high, patched up with various steel plates, then examined the homemade buildings and rooms beneath the steel dome…

This place was like a special shelter, or perhaps a densely populated mini-society.

He had to admire the survivors of the “nonexistent hospital” who somehow managed to hold out in this hellish place, particularly on the twelfth level.

“Our chief would like to see you,” a tall woman approached, slightly bowed her head, and spoke to the fair-skinned, small-framed man.

“Alright,” Colin replied, not surprised by this, and followed her.

They passed through a series of makeshift houses reminiscent of a slum but much cleaner and tidier. Many tall women peered out curiously at him.

“What do they eat to grow so tall and strong…” Colin mused in his mind as he noticed the average adult size was around two meters.

Although these women were tall and robust, their faces were surprisingly decent.

But before he could ponder more, in a hall converted from a hospital room, Colin saw an Ashen Holy Body lying on a hospital bed and a sister so tall that sitting up almost made her his height, staring at him intently.

The woman he had met earlier, who seemed to be the chief, was seated at the deputy position next to this tall woman.

“What’s your background?” the deputy chief asked

“I come from beyond this world, carrying the mission of ‘Bonfire,’ arriving in response to the pleas of the weak and innocent, to liberate, move, and save the survivors here,” Colin responded without hesitation, having done similar work more than once and already having a set of prepared words.

Although he hadn’t heard anyone’s plea upon arrival and didn’t know of other survivors aside from the employees who had stumbled here, nor was his actual purpose to save the survivors…

It didn’t hinder him from saying so.

After all, given the company’s nature, he would still need to evacuate people later, and there would be no second person knowing the actual situation.

After a pause, he added, “Of course, before that, you’ll have to cooperate with me and answer some questions.”
