SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire -
Chapter 743 - 743 532
Chapter 743: 532 Chapter 743: 532 The situation in reality was just as he had imagined; the Ashen Holy Body and the Orange Cat were in a similar state, though the former had a deeper impression, mentioning some undying anomaly, “Be careful. Doctor,” “Don’t respond to it,” and the like.
But that was about it.
Tries as he might, it was like his memory had been veiled, and he simply couldn’t recall any specific details.
“The only person left not found must be ‘The Unyielding’…”
Colin opened the parchment and glanced over it, noticing that this old guy had recently posted a few sentences in a “stupid chat room” for amusement…
Then, almost as if clocking in, he @’ed Colin’s internal employee account name about a dozen minutes later: “@654321, I beg you, I can’t take it much longer, Brother Shunzi, just come and rescue me, and I’ll be yours forever, plus I have information on orange-grade gear, and tens of thousands of points…”
Right after he posted this, some people immediately commented.
“Oh, isn’t this Brother Unyielding? Weren’t you just trash-talking me fiercely? You seem to be in high spirits; how can you not hold on…”
“Exactly, just like those old folks scrambling for seats after dancing in the plaza, returning to Brother Shunzi, and then start acting weak?”
“Speaking of which, those points of yours, weren’t they from luring people in and then upping the ante to scam them?”
“Hahaha, don’t joke around, one of these days Brother Unyielding will transform into an anomaly and sneak right into your bed on the first day…”
“…”
Facing these slanderous remarks, “The Unyielding” naturally retorted, saying things like “Impossible, it’s all my own efforts,” “Just took the occasional opportunity to do some minor tasks,” “I’ve never tricked anyone,” and so on.
However, Colin couldn’t help thinking that this matter of transforming into an anomaly one day…
It honestly seemed quite uncertain.
He mulled over this while searching, trying to gather as many posts by “The Unyielding” as possible…
Compared to the beginning, Brother Unyielding’s words now seemed a bit slack, as if begging when possible and letting go when not, giving off a strange feeling of helplessness.
“Could this mean that his situation has now stabilized?”
Colin pondered, initially planning to have “Kě’ài duō” communicate with him…
But after thinking it over, he decided not to, given an indescribable unease.
The man’s situation was very complicated. If he knew Colin was coming, it might not be a good thing, and it was previously mentioned that during their mission, the two employees seemed to have come into contact with him, albeit uncertainly…
What startled Colin was that, although one employee had only reached level eight and another level six, both claimed to have had unofficial, private interactions with the “Brother Unyielding” on the eighteenth level…
That was rather eerie.
If that person could go as low as the sixth or eighth level, why would he need rescuing?
“Need to be careful, whether to contact him or not, we’ll see after the investigation is finished. If necessary, we’ll make contact, if not, better not to communicate, at least I can’t let him know in advance that I’m coming.”
Colin pushed down the urge to communicate with the man in his heart.
He also reminded Kě’ài duō not to make unnecessary moves and not to let the other party know even the act of gathering information itself, whether directly or indirectly…
Colin sighed after a few more hours with not much to show for his efforts:
“Seems like that’s about as far as we’re going to get with the information collection…”
After all that researching, it wasn’t that he’d come away with nothing, but neither did it seem he’d found any key information. The biggest impression he got from the whole thing was that this mission, if not delved into too deeply, might just be fine, but once deep involvement began, it was likely to be not much different from dealing with something like the “Out-of-Control Copy.”
And within the “Out-of-Control Copy”, strength was merely a ticket to entry.
Unless one could overwhelm the situation, in these kinds of events, greater strength did not necessarily mean more ease…
“Huh.”
After taking a long breath, Colin looked at the time and began making as much preparation as he could.
…
A day and a half later, on the morning of February 28th, somewhere over the seemingly endless, uninhabited open sea, Colin, shrouded in flame, plunged into the water like a seagull, then slowly began to descend.
After about ten minutes, in the dark depths of the sea, using the light from his own flame, he saw an arching seabed where, besides the dead corals, there were also some dilapidated ancient ruins.
An ominous aura was diffusing from them…
“Seems like the problem isn’t too big.”
Colin quickly landed on the ground as soon as he had confirmed that the surroundings had little effect on him, and it was at that moment, when he felt as if he had crossed some kind of boundary.
It seemed as though he had entered a sealed spatial area…
However, within the glow of the flame, the abnormalities of this region seemed to shrink back, as if instinctively fearing it.
About half an hour passed when Colin suddenly noticed a murky fog beginning to appear in the pitch-black sea around him, quickly growing denser…
Soon after, with the grey fog covering everything, a monotonous, hollow, and piercing sound of a flute echoed from the depths of the fog.
Following closely was a train that rattled on incessantly, “clang clang clang,” heading towards him.
The grey fog did not separate the seawater but merely spread and enveloped everything around, meaning that the train was submerged in the water at the moment. Yet, the immense pressure of the sea thousands of meters below seemed to have no effect on the train at all.
It was as if it didn’t exist, with not even the thin layer of the train windows being crushed.
“This thing… it’s still amazing,” Colin murmured to himself, then after a moment of stupefaction, he found that the train had slowly come to a stop.
“Click.”
The door slid open.
The seawater seemed to be blocked by an invisible force, unable to flow inside.
Seeing this, Colin was not particularly surprised. He didn’t waste time observing and took a few steps towards the entrance of the carriage and stood still. Then, with flames surging in his eyes, he swept his gaze across the interior, sensing a few shadowy figures.
“Please go to the corner and stay there,” he said calmly, politely extending his hand to point to the corner, with flames churning in his eyes.
Under the radiation of the flame, some of the “shadowy figures” sitting down hesitated for two seconds before reluctantly moving towards the bottom left corner of the carriage, under the heat of the flame, and sat down together.
After applying a barrier of flame to prevent them from escaping, Colin finally found a place to sit down.
These things in themselves had no real intelligence, being closer to instinctual. Yet, while being instinctual, they had a slight understanding of human language…
“It’s time to summon people.”
Colin took out the parchment for the current event and sent out the tasks to two employees assisting him…
In a few seconds, the two employees who had been on standby since the early morning immediately accepted the invitation for the “support mission” and appeared directly in the train carriage.
The instant they appeared, the train doors slowly closed, and the train started moving again.
As the train disappeared from the seabed, various strange, starfish-like black creatures began poking their heads out from the ruins, as if trying to ascertain whether the human who gave them an immense sense of oppression had left…
However, as soon as they emerged, they saw a pulsating flame at the original spot.
With a “boom,”
The fierce light of the fire erupted under the deep sea.
The flame, defying all logic, swallowed the area in an instant, purifying all that was unclean.
…
“Not bad, the threat has been removed…”
Colin’s gaze returned from the window, which was now obscured by the grey fog, and turned to look at the two people sitting not far away:
“The mission officially starts now, have either of you recalled anything?”
Both “Orange Cat” and “Innate Ashen Holy Body” looked at each other, shaking their heads. However, “Ashen Holy Body” spoke up first:
“All I remember now is that when we went there, it seemed that we arrived near the location through a ‘support mission’ directly, without taking the train or any other steps…”
“Me too,” Orange Cat nodded in agreement following the same line of thought.
‘Not by train? Could it be that the method ‘Lady Bunny’ provided is the correct way to enter?’
Colin nodded thoughtfully, trusting ‘Lady Rabbit”s arrangements even more.
