Chapter 657: Chapter 487: Another “Former Company Employee”?_2 Chapter 657: Chapter 487: Another “Former Company Employee”?_2 So he followed and took a look at the nearby fields.

Yet, just as he had arrived, he heard a cacophony of noises emitting from within the fields…

“No, not noises, but rather some kind of peculiar spiritual waves that were transformed into sounds? What’s going on?”

Colin’s gaze fell upon the crops as he faintly heard some cries.

“I need water, I need water, I need water…”

“Add some soil to my roots…”

“Hurry, hurry, hurry, my fruit is ripe! If you don’t harvest it now, you’ll miss the prime time to eat it!”

“I want nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium! I want nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium!”

“The seed next door is taking my water, I’m dying of thirst…”

“…”

The strange spiritual waves, like the croaking of bullfrogs, came from all around the fields, with some figures wandering among them, planting according to the “voices” emitted by the plants.

“Hisss, what kind of monstrous farm is this…”

Colin opened his mouth, listening to the chorus from the fields, his eyes drifting into a daze.

“Jesus… I’m losing sanity points over this. Can these things really be eaten?” Orange Cat couldn’t help but draw a breath, feeling that the field not sowed with food but a bunch of demons and ghosts.

“Isn’t this just normal vegetation?”

Akasha commented perplexedly, at the same time stretching out her fair hand to pluck a just-ripened fruit that resembled some kind of solanaceous plant, and placing it in the basket she was casually carrying.

‘I guess only you guys would think it’s normal.’

Colin didn’t respond, but merely silently made his flames burn a little brighter before glancing again at the plants.

Broadly speaking, they were all types of plants that looked familiar…

Some resembled rice or wheat, while some were like apple and other fruit trees.

And what they all had in common was… their abnormally high yields.

For instance, Colin saw a plant about three meters tall, roughly the size of a banana tree, but suspected to be a rice plant, it bore dozens of heavy ears; he sensed that just from this single plant, one could harvest over a hundred pounds of yield.

And just as Colin arrived, the firelight emanating from him seemed to attract these crops.

“Shine on me, shine on me… I’ll reward you with black pearl grapes to eat…”

“Shine on me! Ah! Illuminate me, I can…”

“Come find me quick, and I’ll produce sweet, huge chicken-flavored super mangoes for you…”

“Ah, it’s so hot…”

“Mmm, mmm, it’s so comfortable, shah, shah, so hot, a bit hotter, ah, I’m ripening!”

All sorts of insanity-inducing spiritual waves came forth.

“Hisss…”

Colin suddenly felt a tinge of fear, wanting to incinerate all the crops with a blast of fire, and his steps following Akasha hesitated momentarily.

“It seems like they all really like you!” Queen Akasha turned her head and said with a smile.

I’d rather they didn’t like me; these things are so abstract…

Colin grumbled internally while outwardly maintaining his composure and said:

“Where did you get all these plants from?”

“They were exchanged in the ‘Company’ with points, or you could save your own seeds, but if you keep your own seeds and plant them generation after generation, they start to become abnormal, their speaking voices grow fainter and fainter, and eventually, they stop talking altogether. Without their guidance, we wouldn’t know how to water them, which would affect the harvest…”

Not talking at all is normal!

Colin and the other two Company employees thought near-simultaneously in their minds.

“The ‘Subsidiary”s store sells different things, each one being a bit unique. Over at Shana’s side, there’s stuff like black bread and water, but here it’s seeds for crops.”

Colin pondered to himself.

The Subsidiary’s store offerings largely revolved around strange, talking seeds, each kind producing massive yields and allowing for extremely rapid cultivation with several cycles of planting possible.

Even in this world’s environment, it was possible to get the first batch of fruits in as little as a little over a month, to no longer than six months at most.

Listening to Akasha’s explanation, Colin started feeling tempted to exchange for some “seeds” to study.

But unfortunately, he was also worried these seeds might carry some “virus”…

After all, talking crops are quite peculiar.

But just then, a line of information burst into his mind…

[Task One: Collect seeds of the plants encountered on this mission, three seeds of each variety.]

“Requirement”: Conduct a trade with Lady Akasha, submitting Nine Thousand Points.

“Note”: Upon returning, a batch of seeds will be received, and corresponding points refunded.

“Alright, alright, alright, it looks like ‘Lady Rabbit’ also wants these seeds, but spending Nine Thousand Points on these crops, it’s unclear if it’s a loss or a gain.”

“Eh, it doesn’t matter anyway; it’s not my own money, and points will be refunded. It’s just proxy shopping…”

“As long as I make a profit, it’s fine.”

Colin muttered and then proceeded with the trade with Akasha.

She was taken aback but accepted the trade, then couldn’t resist mentioning that buying over a thousand different types of seeds three times over would at most take about Three Thousand Points… This was several times more than that.

“It doesn’t matter, not a big problem.”

Colin waved his hand, indicating that anything solvable with points was not an issue.

After completing the transaction smoothly, harvesting continued. However, when dinner time came around, Colin gave some life-saving methods to the two D Level staff along with a cautionary “Don’t wander around here casually,” before he departed from the territory alone…

Because some new tasks had arisen.

[Task Two: Head to a region in the “Lost Data World” where there’s a broadcast signal being sent out by an unknown Former Company Employee.]

“Note”: Must be completed before dawn.

“A Former Company Employee? Rosen? It shouldn’t be; his information is definitive, suggesting this should indeed be an employee of unknown identity.”
