SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire
Chapter 649 - 649 482

Chapter 649: 482 Chapter 649: 482 As she spoke, she reached into the side of her black robe and pulled out a folded parchment.

She skillfully unfolded it and after a few manipulations, the parchment emitted strands of brilliance that rapidly constructed a three-dimensional map in the air.

Then, after some unknown operation by Akasha, two markers appeared on the map, connected by a line.

“This is us, this is the target direction. We’ll first return to our ‘Defiants’ encampment. If all goes well, it should take about ten hours or so, maybe a day, to get there.”

“Once we arrive, we’ll discuss with everyone how to sabotage the ‘Eternal Night’ ritual and plans for activating the train…”

Akasha explained to Colin.

“Okay.”

Colin nodded, showing no objections, particularly concerning the special functions of the parchment.

He didn’t seem too surprised; having learned about “function modules” from “World Code-13,” he had anticipated that “Subsidiaries” might have some unique capabilities.

Next, Colin’s gaze swept over the map.

He silently estimated that the module he got from the “Subsidiary” might be capable of creating a similar function.

It was just unfortunate that there wasn’t much of the module; after its creation, there would be a limit on the number of users—it felt like, at best, it could accommodate about a dozen people…

‘Otherwise, creating a similar module, issuing it to all employees, unlocking it with a hundred or two points, and then spending a small amount of points each time it’s used, could probably accumulate enough points to fully upgrade the Golden Card.’

Too bad, the thing was too small to be practical.

Returning to the moment, Colin dismissed the thought and addressed Akasha, who was about to put away the parchment, “By the way, do you have some kind of internal chat function?”

“Yes, but it’s mostly dominated by The Dusk Sect. If we speak up there, there’s a chance we could be tracked, which is why I generally ignore that stuff. Do you want to take a look?”

They could actually track? The ‘Subsidiary’s’ privacy protection wasn’t too solid. But, Colin also noted that it wasn’t entirely occupied… He asked:

“If we look at it, will they notice?”

“No,” Akasha shook her head, “definitely not.”

“Let’s have a look then.”

At Colin’s prompting, Akasha opened the feature called “Wide-Area Communication.” The layout for chatting and such was similar to theirs, but the content was entirely different.

“Attention! Attention! The 29th ‘Eternal Night’ ritual selection for sacrificial offering is underway! Only those with pure hearts, strong wills, and powerful minds are eligible to receive God’s blessing at the ‘Eternal Night’ ritual…”

“Those who successfully receive the blessing will become great pioneers of our people and respected by all…”

“Their families will also be granted the right to live in the first batch of safe houses in the newly opened world.”

“This recruitment is open to individuals between the ages of twelve and thirty, passing various selections…”

The pinned post was about the recruitment for the “Eternal Night,” providing some basic information related to it.

Following this post, many ordinary people posted comments like “Praise the ‘Eternal Night’.” “Hope for mankind to advance further!” “Pick me! Pick me! I want to lead everyone to new territories,” and so on.

Besides, further below were posts like “Recruiting experienced farmers in District XX, farming plans are about to begin…” “Construction Corps recruitment…” and more.

Upon Colin’s prompt, Akasha opened these posts, and the comments underneath…

“My leg that was amputated this year is reattached! Pick me, I want to contribute my strength!”

“Even though I am over a hundred years old, I can still farm. Praise ‘The Night’; Praise our efforts…”

“In the northeastern region, there is a large deposit of Energy Crystals. I want to report…”

“…”

The corresponding information left Colin and others somewhat silent because it was different than the craziness they had anticipated.

Then, at that moment, Akasha opened another piece of content that had been placed at the top of the headlines.

“Beware of traitors playing the ‘freedom’ card.”

Content: We have recently received some news that a group of human traitors claiming to be “Defiants” are spreading wildly unrealistic fantasies through various channels, attempting to make us give up this place and leave the world.

After the analysis by the Holy Elders Council’s experts, it has been confirmed that all of humanity has perished; this is the last world!

We are the last hope of human civilization!

We must stand united!

For the future, for mankind, for the day when we truly reach a promised land without hunger, mutations, and distortions.

All tribesmen should collaborate to strike against illegal “Defiants.”

If you spot any anomalies, please immediately call the “Judgment Group” to report them, and we will distribute rewards such as eggs and Alpha Nutrient among a series of prizes.

Humanity’s future depends on each and every one of us!

“I’d like to report, a few days ago, while following the pioneering team, I bumped into some odd figures, they didn’t seem like mutants, probably those damned ‘Defiants’…”

“The family in the seventh seat of my neighboring car seems off, their sleep pods are often empty around rest time…”

“I’ve seen…”

“Doesn’t it feel a bit like a religion, apart from that, it seems pretty okay?”

Colin stroked his chin, his gaze sweeping over the posts before him. Before he looked, he thought it would be a bunch of lunatics spewing nonsense.

But upon seeing them, they all seemed rather polite and not particularly mad.

There was even an odd feeling of discomfort…

At this moment, the “Master of the Fish Pond” accurately voiced his discomfort: “Why does this feel so abstract? Why don’t these people establish policies or post sultry pictures, and why, oh why don’t they swear?

Even though the content above doesn’t seem abstract at all, this is the ultimate abstraction.

Orange Cat nodded in agreement too: “I was wondering why it’s so clean here, so ‘awkward’; turns out it’s not me, it’s them.”

“If you can’t talk, then don’t.”

Colin waved his hand, telling these two embarrassing fools to shut up first. He felt that, compared to the people above, these two who hanged out in the company chat groups were the ones who were tainted.

However, looking at the content above, Colin’s gaze narrowed slightly. He noticed something: “There doesn’t seem to be that ‘robot’?”

“Right! Haven’t seen those fools who always ask for addresses!” “Master of the Fish Pond” then realized the real reason behind the feeling of “cleanliness.”

He, who collected points, spent all year in the “chat lobby.”

Among those present, he had the most contact with that ghostly thing. The harassing was truly annoying.

“What ‘robot’?” Akasha asked, seeing the reactions of several people, confusion on her face.

“It’s a… somewhat special eerie thing, that will do everything possible to wheedle out your current location.”

Colin explained briefly, then saw Akasha shake her head.

‘Does this mean, that thing is unique to our main company? No, our place might just be a regional ‘Subsidiary’…’

A thought flashed through his mind, and Colin was a bit puzzled as to what the “robot” really was.

But he had more pressing matters to attend to, so he didn’t dwell on it.

Refocusing, he instructed Akasha to turn off the “wide-area communication,” put away the parchment, and was about to leave the car and start moving.

After making some preparations, Colin closed his eyes and controlled the “Bonfire” to attach to everyone. Once Akasha pointed in a direction, he led the charge out of the car.

Above their heads, chunks of meaty rain had yet to breach the firewall before being incinerated into ash.

Meanwhile, within the field of vision, all pieces of flesh seemed to sense something, wriggling toward Colin’s area, extending snail-antenna-like flesh-buds, waggling as if reaching out.

Colin ignored them, kept his eyes closed, and used Flame Perception to look in the direction of the target.

Through the “Red Rain,” one could faintly make out in the distance some dangerous presences, monolithic mutated flesh masses, waving giant limbs…

Additionally, some eerie figures were also approaching.

‘They’re very sensitive to the scent of living beings.’

Colin flicked his index finger, shooting a flame that ignited an odd blood-flesh tree that uprooted itself, trying to come closer.

“Follow me!”

After calling out, flames burst out from him in expanding circles.

Once everyone followed, Colin, like a sharp sword, led the team, tearing a path through the twisted world of flesh and blood.
