SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire
Chapter 573 - 573 446

Chapter 573: 446 Chapter 573: 446 This was the legacy “Father of the Ocean” left to him before his death.

But after this thing was stored in his head, there hadn’t been any activity. Colin had been seriously injured several times, and whether using “Bonfire” or “Hunger,” it didn’t react…

So much so that most of the time, he forgot that there was such a thing in his brain.

“At this point, it seems like it’s not just stored in my brain, but rather, it feels somewhat like it’s stored in some system of ‘Bonfire Company’ within my body, stuck there like a quest reward…”

“That makes sense, otherwise, it would have probably been consumed by me when I released ‘Hunger’ last time.”

“‘Father of the Ocean’ is aware of ‘Hunger’ and values this egg so much; obviously, he wouldn’t have left it inside me without preparations…to add to my meal.”

Colin stroked his chin, and when he focused, he could vaguely feel the presence of the object.

Its form was somewhat like a quest…

But its current appearance was much the same as before; he didn’t know what was being incubated inside or what the conditions for hatching were—it simply remained silent…

“I don’t even know if it’s still alive. If it’s dead, could I take it out and add it to my meal?”

Colin remembered that in novels, consuming the eggs of such super creatures might allow one to ascend on the spot or something…

He thought whimsically for a moment, chuckled, then refocused and pulled out his phone to contact Xu Duojin, asking him to come over.

The other party informed him to wait for about half an hour, and he would soon arrive, then hung up the phone.

Only, right after hanging up, Colin realized something was off…

“Wait, isn’t the cleanup battle in ‘City at the Lake’s Bottom’ still ongoing? Didn’t they say he went over there too? And that desert is quite far from here…”

Colin’s expression turned bizarre, this… Could it be that he came back on a missile?

Or maybe…

Does the official side have some special means of transport?

He vaguely remembered there were such things, but they were the type to be sealed, not turned into items by the Company.

Those sealed containment subjects were pricey to use.

Considering how these people were as frugal as the village-slaughtering granny, they likely wouldn’t be willing to try using these things for mere travel.

And to arrive within half an hour, Colin suspected this guy either slacked off and didn’t go, or he came back on a missile.

It seemed the officials actually had people who could ride missiles for travel…

“Phew, it’s finally over.”

Xu Duojin came out of a large building, drenched in cold sweat. Inside the secret containment warehouse underground, some peculiar things still hadn’t been fully dealt with.

It seemed they noticed Mr. Wu’s departure, recognized him as an impostor, and thus immediately started to act.

Fortunately, he managed to hold on until just now, when the real Master returned…

And as soon as he stepped out, that disaster-star sent a message.

“Buzz, buzz, buzz…”

The sound of an airplane engine came from not far away.

Xu Duojin looked to the side and saw a fighter jet, about to take off in the middle of the night.

If nothing unusual happened, it would “coincidentally” pass right above the neighborhood where Colin lived.

“Not giving me a moment to breathe, it’s straight onto the next thing, Mr. Wu is…”

Mid-sentence, he paused, then sighed with resignation, “Growing more and more skilled.”

Another half-hour later, while putting on sunglasses, he knocked on the door. Upon hearing “come in,” he pushed the door and entered.

There he saw Colin sitting on the couch playing with his phone, leisurely picking at a king crab feast on the table. A delicate-looking maid was massaging his shoulders and back…

“Huh…” A chill swept through.

Xu Duojin turned his head and saw a ghost-like aberration toss a streak of frost towards them.

Without waiting for his reaction, it giggled “hee hee hee” and drifted away like a child…

‘That breeze would freeze an ordinary person to death.’

Xu Duojin inwardly lamented the lack of discipline in Colin’s House, swatted the frost from his clothes, sat down on the couch, and vengefully grabbed a crab leg:

“Mr. Colin, what’s the matter?”

“Hmm, take a look at this.” Colin, as always, didn’t beat around the bush and simply tossed the handwritten pages over.

“This is…” Xu Duojin asked while taking the pages.

Then, upon hearing the latter part of Colin’s explanation, he stopped eating his crab legs, put them on the table, and became entirely serious.

“Some suggestions and directions for the future provided by some company executives.”

After Colin finished speaking simply, the room was filled with nothing but the sound of pages turning.

Clearly, the mysterious executives of “Bonfire Company” still held significant weight in the hearts of official personnel.

Colin didn’t disturb him but simply slurped on the crab legs while waiting.

After a good while, Xu Duojin finally put down the documents.

“Can I take this document with me when the time comes?”

“Yes.”

“Hmm, then, I have some questions to ask. According to this, might the future disasters be related to the sea?”

“I guess it should be related to it, and it might also shift to another world, but I’m not certain about the specifics. What I can let you know is all there on the paper.”

Colin did not guarantee this point and straightforwardly indicated that he wasn’t very clear about it either.

After a pause, he continued, “So, is there an issue with the demands listed there or what?”

“It’s not that the demands can’t be met…”

Adjusting his sunglasses, Xu Duojin browsed the contents once more before speaking, “We have always had contingency plans for various scenarios. After all, when predicting the future, we knew disasters would happen but never knew what kind exactly.

“So, plans for underground structures, floating islands on the sea, or even limited space stations were all in place…

“However, if we follow the instructions here, a significant amount of resources will have to be allocated in this direction, which… will require a solid reason to get everyone to agree.”

“Is that so…” Colin nodded, unsurprised.

It’s indeed not easy to unify everyone for an uncertain project…

After all, if everyone put all their resources into building ships and then it turns out the doomsday crisis is due to a meteorite falling, what then?

“The main thing is, according to our future estimates, none of the types of disasters we expect seem to include this scenario. Without a proper reason, it will be tough to execute… Do you have any suggestions?”

“My suggestion is to follow the instructions, but if you’re saying I need to provide something concrete, I’ve got nothing.”

Colin expressed his opinion.

“Is that so…” Xu Duojin nodded, once again reviewing some of the specific implementation details in the document, feeling secretly alarmed.

He realized that the company seemed to be aware of the horrific containment subjects they secretly detained, and had even provided usage suggestions, giving him the eerie feeling that they had thoroughly seen through their own depths.

But then again, it seemed normal…

Those company employees were always investigating this or that…

They certainly weren’t investigating for nothing.

Sometimes the company would assign some “freebie” tasks.

Go to some place that obviously has nothing, take a casual spin as if window-shopping, do nothing, and then return.

The employees thought it was a freebie…

But when the authorities stepped in to investigate and extracted some reports, they found that although these places are uneventful now, they had incidents in the past, often being the former locations of anomalies before containment.

Employees might not know what they actually did.

But in reality, the company had already gathered information about a containment subject through them.

Just a little bit of information is enough to understand the majority of situations.

‘It’s a pity, we don’t know the actual motive of this ‘company’…’

Xu Duojin sighed. They had never quite understood the ultimate aims of the company. All the information they had found thus far indicated that all actions of Bonfire Company seemed to be driven by the aim of saving “humanity” as a whole.

That’s why they provided “unconditional” assistance to them…

But even Xu Duojin, who was amiable toward the “company,” couldn’t help but shake his head in skepticism at this thought. It didn’t feel quite true.

It couldn’t really be some noble desire to save the world and humanity, could it?
