SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire -
Chapter 512 - 512 421
Chapter 512: 421 Chapter 512: 421 When he saw the final spiral staircase, Colin held his breath, ready, and charged straight up.
Seconds later, on the starship ground, from an arched exit.
Colin’s figure burst out directly.
The outside appeared the same as when he had entered: bones everywhere, black fog, and even a burning bonfire in the distance.
The only odd thing was that aside from some pots and pans set up, there were no other people around.
In the air, one could faintly smell the aroma of a tomato hot pot base…
“Son of Sadomasochism” sniffed the scent and couldn’t help but curse softly, “Damn, are these people so vigilant? Serves them right!”
However, as soon as the words fell, everyone suddenly saw.
A majestic pillar of fire penetrated the black fog, descending from the sky, connecting to the bonfire, and inadvertently enveloping them as well…
But before the teleportation began, the nearby pillar of fire suddenly dispersed.
“What’s going on?” everyone exclaimed in shock.
“Boom!”
An indescribable sound of tearing came from below their feet.
A strong inspiration formed a “picture” in Colin’s mind.
Somewhere in the “core layer” of the starship, a rift in space-time that defied accurate description had been torn open.
It existed in a dimension either higher or lower, invisible to reality, and even the basic matter had not been affected, so much so that if not for the blessings of the company’s passives and the Bonfire, Colin might not have even been aware of it!
As for the others, they could only feel an absolute horror.
At that moment, from within the rift, Colin thought he saw countless terrifying creatures writhing and squirming; they had no physical form, yet they all tried to break free from this intangible crack, to return to reality once more…
“Damn it,” a shout of alarm came from the side.
Colin shifted his gaze from the ground, turned his head, and saw “Son of Sadomasochism” staring dumbfounded at the sky with a shocked expression.
He too looked up and was instantly transfixed, his pupils contracting to pinpoints.
The endless black fog that had covered the dome had disappeared…
From the perspective of the starship, looking outward through the asteroid belt, what should have been seen was the pitch-black universe.
But at this moment, the stars were dazzlingly bright, unbelievably so…
And what was shining was what Colin had initially thought to be the lifeless “asteroid belt”!
Every “asteroid” encircling the starship was trembling.
“This damn thing isn’t an asteroid belt… these… these things are the actual bodies of First Level Containment Subjects! A whole bunch of them…”
Colin muttered to himself.
Before he could finish, a nearby larger “asteroid” suddenly cracked open, and countless twisted limbs extended from those cracks, with something terrifying trying to break through the seals quickly…
After this one, other “asteroids” began to show cracks as well.
Colin stared at the sky, completely dumbfounded…
Uncontrolled inspiration made him realize many things.
Within each “asteroid,” a part of a First Level Containment Subject was sealed, and in that special dimensional rift, there was no substantial higher consciousness, not truly without a physical form…
But because their consciousness had been stripped from their bodies.
At this moment, they were frenetically trying to reestablish a connection with their once corporeal selves…
That’s why the previously quiet and desolate asteroid belt had come alive.
Yet, if it had been one or two it might have been manageable, but with the number now present…
It instilled a sense of heartfelt despair.
Colin didn’t know how the former company managed to deal with so many terrifying beings at once, but now, they had become a problem.
Even if they hadn’t awakened yet, just the commotion from their attempted awakening…
Had caused the column of teleportation fire to shatter.
‘Instinct tells me, the only way to leave is to reach the original landing spot because it’s on the periphery of the “asteroid belt,” with the least impact…’
‘And that spot is as far from here as several circuits around the Earth…’
‘Even without any obstacles, I’d have to run until I’m completely exhausted, let alone now, it’s over…’
Colin’s complexion turned pale, ashen like death.
Yet, after two seconds of silence, he seemed to have made some decision, looking at the others: “Soon, I’ll figure out a way to get you out of here. You, just hold on as much as you can…”
“What do you mean…” Little Chicken and the rest looked puzzled.
This…
Can we really still get away?
At this moment, they had pretty much resigned themselves to their fate and weren’t looking to blame anyone; after all, they were mentally prepared for this long ago.
“Yes, through ‘Hunger,’ I can send you away.”
Colin stared into the sky, feeling that every part of his field of vision was writhing. Those things, merely by direct gaze, were already evaporating his sanity.
As he spoke, he conveyed his decision to them, using the method of transmission provided by “Inspiration.”
“This…” Several people widened their eyes. They didn’t understand the specifics, but it felt broadly feasible; however…
“Brother Shunzi, what about you?”
Hearing this, Colin fell silent for half a second, then slowly shook his head.
If “The Light Chaser” itself had come, there might have been a chance to leave together, but this place seemed too remote, and it was highly likely that the other party didn’t even know…
Otherwise, he would be willing to spend all his points.
Setting aside this unrealistic expectation, the only way to leave right now was to release “Hunger,” not just a little, but completely!
The corpses of unconscious Ancient Gods were scattered everywhere here; eating just a couple could make the “Hunger” inside him reach its peak in an instant, revealing the true rank of a “Level 0” Containment Subject!
With the power of the bonfire, he could control this force for a short time, and before his sanity burned up, he would certainly be able to throw these people out.
But for himself…
Colin wasn’t sure if he would still exist by then.
‘If I’m lucky, I’ll return safely; if I’m moderately lucky, I’ll be babbling for the rest of my life; if I’m unlucky, I’ll become a part of ‘Hunger.’
‘Tch, becoming a part of it, huh? After going around in circles, I didn’t expect to end up benefiting it.’
‘No matter what, I don’t have the chance to choose now, I can’t worry about this, I can only leave it up to fate, and bet it all.’
As his thoughts flashed through his mind, Colin’s consciousness sank, connecting with the slumbering will that resided within him, which was almost imperceptible without actively sensing it…
Just then, an unexpected incident occurred.
A dark screen suddenly enveloped what Colin and everyone else could see…
An aura of terror rose from beneath the starship.
At the core of the starship, a tiny, invisible crack was suddenly forced wide open, and an enormous hand made of pure darkness, incredibly black, thrust out violently, its target directly aimed at Colin…
“‘Red Moon’… ‘Red Moon’… ‘Red Moon’…”
A hollow, inhuman whisper lingered in their ears.
You yell for ‘Red Moon,’ but you come at me—what’s the meaning of this… Colin cursed in his mind, and even without looking back, he could feel that he was targeted.
Under this targeting, he was unexpectedly cut off from “Hunger!”
Moreover, he could clearly sense that the pitch-black hand seemed to be constantly extending, and everything in its path was being erased by an unknown power.
“Who can kill me, who could possibly kill me?! Who is able to kill….No, no, no, no… save me, save me!!! No, please!!!”
In the habitation layer, a madman uttered words of lost sanity; however, under the fear brought on by the presence from above, he suddenly came to his senses—
In less than a second, he was erased on the spot.
Besides him, many other anomalies were also erased without any substantive contact…
“Damn it… there’s something below that won’t let any of us leave!” Little Chicken and the others felt a chill in their hearts.
Everything before their eyes was pitch black, they couldn’t see anything, and felt as if they were being dragged into an indescribable darkness.
However, at that moment, within the enveloping darkness, a line of information suddenly appeared on Colin’s retina.
[Event Eleven: Please cease observation, provide immediate assistance, to avoid accident.]
‘Cease observation, provide assistance? What does that mean?’
Colin didn’t understand at first.
But before he could ponder any further, in the profound darkness that not even the bonfire could illuminate, a gleam of fire suddenly traced an arc…
He was initially startled, then belatedly “put two and two together,” recalling some things…
…
