Chapter 493: Chapter 414: The “Victory Bell” in the Ancient Prophecy. Chapter 493: Chapter 414: The “Victory Bell” in the Ancient Prophecy. But, when you think about it, isn’t asking questions when you don’t understand a good habit?
Next to him, “Son of Cruelty” and “Little Chicken No. 7,” though they didn’t quite understand either, also watched their former teammate to avoid being suspected of low intelligence.
Night Owl shook his head, about to speak, when “Life Mentor Adorable” beat him to it, offering his explanation:
“If you pay attention, you’ll notice that they are becoming more like humans. Never mind whether they currently look like it or not, but… this is a major trend.”
Night Owl glanced at his colleague and nodded approvingly, adding, “Not only that, but they’ve also developed preferences and emotions that they shouldn’t have, otherwise their behavior would be even more chaotic…”
Hearing his words, the three who were in the dark finally understood.
“Whether they want to or not, they are becoming more like humans…”
Colin concluded in a definitive tone.
He thought of many things he had encountered, some anomalies that were clearly not human, but inexplicably took on human form…
It was probably not because they wanted this shape.
‘If this continues, many things will ‘humanize,’ including some powerful individuals. Tsk, no wonder those higher beings are so nervous…’
Colin still didn’t know what changes would occur after they took on the shape of humans.
But those high-level executives in the company must not be so eager to engage in such activities just for fun…
“It always feels like they are playing a very big game of chess.”
Colin raised his hand, stroked his chin, considering the company’s methods…
Could it be that once these things become human, all suffering will disappear? That seemed unlikely.
Or was there some other, deeper arrangement?
After pondering for about ten seconds, with a multitude of thoughts rising and falling, unfortunately, he couldn’t be certain of the correct answer due to insufficient information.
‘We can only cross the bridge when we get there…’
Reining in his scattered thoughts, Colin glanced outside the command vehicle, where the battle with the “Flood Demon” was still ongoing, though the front line had been pushed further away.
Then, he turned to his companion and said, “It seems we have about an hour left… If you don’t mind, we could ask about those things, the black fog, the eye on top…”
Night Owl followed his gaze outside, pondered for a few seconds, then agreed:
“The eye above was once an important part of the local ecosystem, having functioned as the ‘sun’ and, at the same time, it was part of the ‘defense system’ of the mother planet. After the war, they have been continuously using that power to make the anomalies here lethargic, causing them to slumber.”
“Similar ‘suns’ exist in every independent region of the ‘living layer,’ though many have developed problems to varying degrees, some not distinguishing between friend and foe.”
“Every independent region?” Colin interjected.
He had initially thought that there was only one of these giant spaces here.
But it seemed that wasn’t the case?
“Yes, there are many similar spaces. Some are completely sealed, others are somewhat accessible, like this one here, which is accessible.” Night Owl didn’t specify how many spaces there were, but gave a vague idea.
Colin didn’t press further and instead asked about the black fog.
He noticed that it seemed to originate from this area and not from a lower layer…
“Regarding that, you might need to come with me to understand the situation fully. Otherwise, it’s hard to grasp just from verbal explanations,” Night Owl had apparently anticipated their question and stood up, pointing outside.
Colin nodded and stood up, following his lead to a certain area of the temporary base.
There, in the distance, thick black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky…
And it was only a few minutes later that Colin and the others saw what was emitting the smoke—
A number of highly specialized large armored vehicles.
By estimation, there seemed to be sixty or seventy of them; on each side of the vehicles, there were cylindrical “canisters,” with numerous pipes on top of the “canisters” connecting to the center of the vehicles.
As they got closer, Colin saw that each “canister” was filled with people.
Traces of anomalous pollution were being drawn out of them.
Colin narrowed his eyes, focusing to see that the pollution was not the black fog, but after being extracted and filtered through something, it turned into black fog that was expelled?
Just as he was about to ask about the situation, he heard a “click” from one of the armored vehicles.
A row of cans on the vehicle opened…
The people inside walked out.
‘They seem ‘cleaner’ than before I saw them; the black fog actually comes from the anomalous pollution on them? I just don’t know how they deal with that pollution.’
Colin silently nodded to himself, and just as he thought this, he saw the back of the vehicle open after all the people had left.
Inside, the space was filled with a dozen or so human skeletons…
The pale skeletons looked as if they were brand-new, without a trace of flesh.
“What’s going on here?” Colin frowned.
Night Owl looked at the scene and explained, “If you stay here for too long, you’ll certainly accumulate various kinds of pollution. If it exceeds a certain threshold, abnormalities will occur…”
“To prevent this, we select individuals whose bodies have reached their limits.
“We make them assume the duty of serving as ‘filters,’ taking on the burden of filtering the pollution from others before it’s processed harmlessly…”
