Chapter 356: Chapter 354 “The Disordered Ghost Train” Begins._1 Chapter 356: Chapter 354 “The Disordered Ghost Train” Begins._1 About seven or eight years ago, many people within the circle had already anticipated these events, urging those on the island to transfer everything as quickly as possible, even if not returning it…
But that group wouldn’t listen, insisting that everything was normal and nothing had happened.
They also stated that, as a historical great power, they had the ability to solve their own internal problems.
Afterward, the anomalies from that island spread to their neighbors in Europa Continent and even across the ocean to the Grand East Coast.
They still claimed there were some issues but nothing major.
Eventually, when they detected regional weakening of the “world barrier”, multiple countries voted and decisively sent a joint team to investigate, only to find that the problems were far worse than they had said.
The current situation over there is like an Okamoto 0.01 stretched to its limit, a few more shakes and it might explode.
Even so, those people were still arrogantly protesting this and that…
It wasn’t until this year, when two Eighth Level Personnel from the island ran away with a bunch of people in tow, that they couldn’t cover it up any longer and finally asked for help.
Thinking of this made Xu Duojin somewhat angry.
Colin didn’t know what was going through Xu Duojin’s mind on the other side of the phone. After ending the conversation, he looked at the messages sent by the other party and did have some thoughts:
“Speaking of which, if the anomaly suppression fails, I guess it’s going to be another grand vanishing act, right?”
Colin blinked his eyes.
Although he wasn’t too concerned about that place, he couldn’t help but consider the global impact if problems arose there.
First of all, should that happen…
A hit to the “world barrier” was completely foreseeable.
This invisible, intangible barrier, once breached, would cause anomalies around the globe to erupt at a rate that would make one’s scalp tingle.
One could say that the current chaos on Earth entirely depends on the condition of the “world barrier”.
So it was clear, no matter what Colin’s impression of that place was, if it spiraled out of control, it would definitely be bad news for everyone.
Which is why, despite the situation there being at its worst, countries around the globe were still willing to offer assistance.
If it had been some unknown small country experiencing this…
The big five, if they were willing to send someone to save even a rat, could be praised as a “benevolent force”, and more likely would simply erase them from the world altogether, along with their land…
“If real trouble arises, company employees probably won’t ever have to worry about lacking missions again.”
Colin pursed his lips, made an ironic comment in his mind, and then shifted his focus back to the present.
“Because I saved that old brother in ‘Pseudo-Humans’, he has been singing my praises every day, granting me a bit of a status boost. While it’s not like the company’s ‘call and they come’, at least when I send out messages, people no longer ignore them. There’s still some time before a breakthrough development. For now, I just need to keep observing and grant a few small favors as requested by the mission.”
“Today is the 17th, and there are a few days left until the 20th, these days are rather leisurely, so I can spend some time mentoring those soy-sauce disciples…”
Thinking of those nineteen clamoring soy-sauces, Colin felt a mixture of laughter and tears.
In recent times, he has been dragging them around, and a group of low-level Fate Propellers generally advanced a level, going from the initial 1-2 to now 2-3 Level.
Honestly, the way they upgraded was quite magical to Colin.
Not to mention, they didn’t need to gain the next set of characteristics like other paths.
As long as they had opportunities to mix in, they really did advance in levels…
According to what he understood, if the situation allowed and the conditions were right, this group of soy-sauces could keep mixing their way up to Eighth Level, becoming one of the strongest among the Extraordinary Ones on Earth.
It was only because Ninth Level was rumored to have a sort of “uniqueness”, limited to one individual.
He didn’t doubt in the least that this group of people could carry on blending in.
“No wonder it has the most participants through the official channels, just don’t know what the logic behind the promotion is…”
Colin pursed his lips, feeling relieved that he hadn’t encountered any troublesome matters with the official-type of abnormal tasks.
Thus, he wasn’t overly resistant to tagging along for a ride.
The problematic missions that were occurring now were basically all handed down by the company.
If he weren’t aware of some underlying logic in the assignment of tasks, Colin might have believed he had enemies within the company.
“Once the D Level Promotion Mission is complete, I should be able to free up some time, quickly elevate my internal official rank from 5 to 6, investigate the ‘Book of Fate’, and then secure Lady Bunny’s promise.”
“After becoming a C Level, I should be able to understand more things, like the situation with senior employees, something like that 2044…”
“Then, if there truly is some sort of grand, apocalyptic disaster, I’d have some means of self-preservation.”
Although the overall global situation was stable, aside from that Sunset Island, he still felt that something far more dangerous was slowly happening—
Something unstoppable brewing beyond the islands.
Colin wasn’t certain if his instincts and premonitions were right, but he hoped, before that day arrived,
He would have the strength to protect himself, everyone at the welfare institute, as well as nearby friends and so on…
One thought after another floated through his mind.
It wasn’t until Zhu Jiaofan’s knock on the door that he was brought back from his reverie.
After dinner, as was routine, he slept until about two or three in the morning; then, with nothing better to do, Colin woke up Qin Chuan and the others who had just lay down, had him bring out all the tagalongs, and started executing missions in the dead of the night.
To clear up the outstanding nearby tasks that had piled up recently…
Just as Colin had thought, non-company missions mostly caused no ripples.
Many of the anomalies within the incidents seemed troublesome to Qin Chuan, to Qin Chuan’s former boss, to the boss of Qin Chuan’s former boss, to the boss of the boss of Qin Chuan’s former boss, but they weren’t much of an issue for Colin.
Leading a whole bunch of tagalongs hither and thither, this exemplary worker’s life went on for several days, until number 20 arrived a few days later.
Colin sent all the tagalongs away, and at ten minutes to eleven, he skillfully lay down on the bed.
Soon after, accompanied by the sound of a flute close to his ear,
a surging dense fog rolled in, smearing everything around into obscurity…
Colin couldn’t help but feel a moment of trance.
When he came to his senses, he found himself in a familiar train carriage.
Beneath the yellowish, cozy light, the carriage, exuding a steampunk style, clattered along with the train’s movement, while outside the window, a haze of grey fog hung in the air.
He shook his head vigorously to dispel the haziness.
“No bell sounds, seems it’s not a Descent Type, but the train indeed is that Infinite Train…”
In a flash of thought, Colin sat upright in his seat and looked around the carriage, quickly noticing that apart from him, there were four other figures, each seated in different parts of the carriage.
