SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire
Chapter 240 - 240 240

Chapter 240: 240 Chapter 240: 240 “Now I believe this really is Australia…”

Luo Yiming stared at the thing outside the train, taking in a sharp breath.

“Usually, in some bizarre regions, it’s humanoid monsters or humans who have been corrupted and transformed into something strange, but here’s the exception… Kangaroos outnumber people, and the oddities have taken up residence in them,” Luo Yiming couldn’t help but mockingly comment.

If the tens of millions of kangaroos in this place were all to mutate, then on average, each Australian would have to deal with two kangaroos…

At that moment, a kangaroo passing by outside seemed to sense something. It stopped hopping, turned around to look towards the place it suspected someone was hidden, its muscular forelimbs twisting and the muscles beneath bulging, as if it was showing off its strength or possibly inviting an enemy through body language to come and fight…

And farther off, more figures were hopping and bouncing towards them.

Some of the kangaroos were even over three meters tall…

Seeing this, everyone inside the train got ready for battle; after all, you can’t play around if a bunch of kangaroos were to rush into the train.

But before the large wave of kangaroos arrived, the train doors closed, and it started up once again.

Seeing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that they had avoided a crisis of fending off kangaroos…

“I never dreamed that one day I’d be afraid of a bunch of kangaroos charging at my face,” Luo Yiming thought. If he were to be beaten to death by a group of kangaroos, well… that would be a very frustrating way to die.

It would be better to die under that living tree they had passed earlier…

It was then that sounds of collision suddenly rang out from the outside of the train carriages. Through the increasingly thick fog on the windows, one could see some kangaroos had kicked up at them.

The whole train carriage vibrated from their kicking, indicating the immense force behind it.

However, before long, as the fog thickened and obscured everything, the sounds completely disappeared…

Everyone then exhaled with relief and sat back down in their original seats.

“Up next, it’s going to be troublesome…”

Colin rubbed his forehead, uncertain if they would be able to find a suitable place in the remaining two stations.

“Come to think of it, you guys don’t seem to know where you’re getting off?” Luo Yiming curiously asked from the front carriage—typically, employees tasked with missions on the train would know exactly which station to get off at.

But these people didn’t seem to have that information…

“We’ll get off wherever it’s safe,” Colin replied nonchalantly.

“How about turning back and joining me?”

Luo Yiming suddenly had an idea; his next mission was to get off at the third station for an investigation and possibly deal with something before completing his task.

If Colin and the others helped, it would probably be a lot easier…

“The disembarking points provided for the mission usually aren’t that dangerous and won’t exceed our capabilities, so theoretically, that should be safer…”

Listening to Luo Yiming, Colin didn’t immediately dismiss the idea, considering that it did seem to have some merit.

The other was boarding at the second station, and his third station coincided with Colin’s fifth station, the very last stop. If there was no chance at the fourth station, there wouldn’t be much choice…

Reflecting on this, Colin gave a nod, deciding to proceed in that manner.

Just then, he seemed to sense something, pulled out a piece of parchment from his pocket, and upon opening it, discovered a new task had suddenly appeared.

[Special Task — “Preparations Before Returning to the Real World”]

[Description: Complete the task following these steps to return to the real world.]

[Event One: Get off at the fourth station (the next stop), find a lighthouse in the area, and stand guard atop it until sunrise, then jump off the lighthouse.]

“Note: Upon completing this event, you will be able to return to the real world. Be cautious as there may be dangers outside.”

“Note 2: Have that employee get off with you, but if they’re unwilling, do not force them.”

[Event Two: Only a portion of the personnel trapped in ‘The Seventh Box Garden World’ on the train can be taken (select a specific number according to the mission guidelines); make arrangements for the rest of the personnel and then have them head to the fifth station on their own.]

“Note: ‘Zoo’ Corps will meet them at the fifth station, so there’s no need to worry. Moreover, place that ‘The Seventh Box Garden World’ black box and the ‘Nano Core’ on the train; after I have dealt with them, they will be sent back through the mission channels…”

[Event Three: After returning to reality, don’t worry too much about the ‘Special Operations Department’; proceed with normal interactions.]

“Note: They might reach out to you for inquiries, so investigate and understand their demands.”

“Is this…’Lady Bunny’s’ task?”

Colin’s eyes lit up, spotting a seal at the bottom of the task, a pattern he had seen in her office, confirming it was issued by her.

“We can confirm now, we’ll get off at the next station.”

Colin put away the parchment and immediately shared the news with everyone.

“What? Get off at the next station?” Luo Yiming was taken aback, hadn’t they just agreed on the fifth station?

Colin ignored him and turned to Qin Chuan and the others: “If all goes well, we should be able to return soon. However, before that happens, we might only be able to take some of ‘The Innocents’ with us.”

“What does that mean?” Qin Chuan and the others were surprised.

“We can probably only take some people down with us, let the others head to the fifth station, and by that time there will be others to meet them and help them get off…”

After Colin swiftly explained, he glanced at the children in the carriage.

According to the mission guidance, only about a hundred could return to reality, and the rest would be received by Miss Bunny…

Faced with Colin’s sudden decision, the others didn’t say much, but those children were a bit anxious, worrying whether they had been abandoned…

With some reassurance, they were somewhat put at ease.

After selecting the people, while Colin was walking down the aisle, Qin Chuan pulled Colin aside and quietly asked:

“Are we really not abandoning them?”

“Don’t worry, no, they are absolutely safe, but we’re not certain, there might be some minor troubles to deal with.”

“We’ve got trouble?”

“Mm…”

With the Corps going to meet them, Colin thought that these children would probably be much safer than themselves for what was to come, as if everything were safe, words like “hold firm” probably wouldn’t be used in the mission description.

Then, after dealing with the children’s situation, Colin went to persuade Luo Yiming…

However, it was quite clear that the latter was unwilling to get off early…

Following Lady Bunny’s hint, Colin didn’t make it hard for him, just prayed that he would be fortunate because as of now, it seemed that the train’s route had been altered and would not arrive at the originally intended destination.

What Luo Yiming would encounter and what would become of him was not easy to say.

Of course, none of this was any of Colin’s concern any longer. After making the necessary preparations as the mission demanded and placing a black box and a spherical “Core” at the back of this carriage, he just waited to get off.

“If that guy is planning on harming these children, then don’t hesitate, kill him.”

Colin silently issued a command to the “Nano Core.”

He didn’t trust that guy very much. If the latter didn’t have much in mind, it was fine, but if he did, the best solution was to directly eliminate him.

“Understood, Master. I will act according to your will,” came the message from within the “Nano Core” that had curled up into a ball.

This time, a little more than an hour later, the train emitted a long whistle again.

As the dense fog cleared, a night view of a seaside beachscape unfolded outside the windows before everyone’s eyes…

With trust in “Lady Bunny,” Colin and the others left the “Mist Train” with over a hundred selected escapees after the train stopped and the doors opened, thus ending this train journey.

“Are we really not taking that leftover thing with us?” Qin Chuan and the others glanced at the “gift” left on the seats.

“Don’t worry… It should be returned after a while.”

Colin said and then stepped off the train last, his feet sinking into the soft sand.

The cold, damp breeze, carrying a whiff of the sea’s scent, blew gently…

The sound of the waves, one after another, filled their ears…

Meanwhile, back on the train, Luo Yiming watched them leave, puzzled. Finally, he shook his head and said nothing, waiting for the train to set off again…

Honestly, he didn’t feel safe in this ghostly place either.

Especially that sea—it didn’t look right.

But it was those people’s choice, and he couldn’t stop them.

Soon, the train clanged again and resumed its journey.

Luo Yiming glanced at the people left behind and then at the Corpse Mountain in front of him, considering whether he should move to a different spot, but as soon as the thought arose, he saw the silver, smooth sphere on the seat vibrate, and a sense of imminent danger surged within him.

“What kind of precaution has that guy left to guard against me? Does he think too badly of me?”

Luo Yiming fell silent but said nothing as he sat back down.

However, not long after the train started moving, the cozy, warm carriage was suddenly filled with flickering red lights, followed by the sound of an alarm ringing in everyone’s ears.

Luo Yiming was not unfamiliar with this commotion, as he had heard it at the last stage in “World Code-13.”

At the same time, cold, mechanical text appeared on his retina.

“Warning, from this moment on, ‘Mist Train-1045-7’ to ‘Mist Train-1045-24’ carriages will be temporarily requisitioned by the ‘Swarm’ of the Corps’ Eighth Army of ‘Zoo’…”

“Next stop: ‘The First Box Garden World’…”
