Chapter 184 - 184 184 Human Future Research Institute_1

Chapter 184: Chapter 184 Human Future Research Institute_1 Chapter 184: Chapter 184 Human Future Research Institute_1 The corpse had been dead for quite some time, dressed in rags, with skin beneath the clothes dried and wrinkled like old tree bark. Its face was grotesque, presenting a mummified appearance.

A long rope circled his neck, its end tied to the second-floor balcony railing.

After Colin and the others entered, it appeared to be disturbed by the wind, swaying gently like cured meat hanging in a home.

“Death time detected, approximately within the last week. The exact time is indeterminable, cause of death mechanical asphyxiation…” the Robot concluded swiftly after scanning with several beams of light, providing the result within a minute.

“You can turn into this after being dead for a week?”

Listening to its words, everyone reflexively thought of the same word, unsatisfied with the conclusion.

Regardless, right or wrong, the speed at which it delivered results was anything but slow…

Colin sat on the back of the mechanical dog, glancing behind him. Not seeing the “Twilight’s Children” approaching, he turned his gaze back to the corpse hanging in midair.

What was certain was that this was a normal human corpse, with no abnormalities, and no risk of reanimating. Confirming this, Colin let out a sigh of relief.

Next, it was time to investigate why it was hanging there.

“Should we take down the body to have a look?” someone suggested, but as soon as these words were spoken, there was opposition.

“No, something’s off about this place. If we mess around carelessly, it might lead to other problems. Let’s just observe as is, see if we can find any valuable information…”

After a brief discussion, everyone decided to keep things as they were.

Most importantly, since their arrival, “Twilight’s Children” seemed to have no intention of entering the area.

Heaven knows if it was related to this corpse…

It was unlikely, but they didn’t want to gamble.

However, without much inspection, they noticed a cloth strip deliberately tied around the left wrist of the corpse.

On this strip, they saw an irregular circle with a red dot, and underneath it was a phrase: Dragon Bay, D, 801.

“Dragon Bay, D, 801? What does it mean? A specific location? What was his purpose for writing down this thing?”

Colin and the others were puzzled. They could infer from the words “Dragon Bay” that it probably referred to a residential district, then building D, apartment 801?

But there was a question – where was Dragon Bay?

And what was his purpose in leaving this message before dying, and who was it meant for?

In the midst of confusion, Colin suddenly noticed something in the front pocket of the corpse’s shirt. From his angle, he could just make out the corner of a piece of paper sticking out.

“Can one of you check and see if you can get that thing from his chest pocket?” Colin reminded them.

If he had to do it himself, he could have asked Yukionna for help.

But at this point, even though he knew they might suspect him due to his recently displayed strength and reactions, he still didn’t want to expose too much.

He would keep things hidden as long as possible; no matter if it couldn’t stay hidden forever. As long as he didn’t fully reveal himself, they probably couldn’t guess his association with the Bonfire Company.

Soon, with Colin’s prompt, everyone carefully extracted the paper from the chest pocket and had the Robot unfold it. The paper, once unfolded, was quite large, about the size of two A4 sheets, but upon opening, they were met with a big curse—

“Fuck! The! Bastards! In! The! Research! Institute!”

Ah, what kind of grudge was this, starting with such an explosive insult…

Colin muttered internally, his eyes continuing to scan downwards.

“Before setting out in search of supplies this time, the captain asked me to write a will first. I didn’t know what to write originally, since besides my son, I had little else to yearn for. But when I thought of the institute, I knew exactly what to write.”

“If it weren’t for those damned Human Ascension Projects and whatever God-making Plans, things here wouldn’t be so terrible. Everywhere, there are unkillable Twilight’s Children, rats lurking in the darkness, Deep Sea Leviathans. If not for their schemes, none of this would have happened…”

“These big shots messed up the world and ran away. Haha, they were prepared long in advance, escaping into shelters or even leaving this world. But we common people only knew when disaster struck. Damn bastards…”

“Damn Human Ascension Project, those sons of bitches. If there is a hell, when I see those mixed breeds, I will make them die again. Because of them, we’ve lost everything…”

“Don’t let me catch any of those bastards, or else I swear I’d turn their heads into piss pots.”

The majority of the will was filled with swearing, cursing the deceit of relevant departments, their irresponsibility, and so on, with holes punctured by the pen indicative of deep resentment towards the institute.

However, despite the cursing, some of the mentioned disasters and the names of various plans set minds wandering.

Beyond that, Colin noticed that the handwriting towards the end of the document was much more disordered than the rest, likely added in the last moments of life.

“If anyone sees this note, I’m sure I’m already dead…”

“I wanted to survive, but unfortunately, I’ve been targeted by a catastrophe-level ‘Twilight’s Child.’ These products of the ‘Human Ascension Project,’ apart from some human resemblance, have long since lost the appearance and cognition of humans.”

“However, luckily, a few friends and I managed to hold out until we reached Shelter No. 21, where we plan to die in an apparent accident.”

“The storage point for the supplies is on the cloth strip in my hand. Inside, there’s essential medicine, enough for the settlement to use for half a year. Besides this, we’ve hidden another important discovery there.”

“Also… I don’t know if anyone will see this will…”

“If so, please tell my son who might still be waiting: Dad is still out looking for Mom. When I find her one day, we’ll come back together, don’t worry.”

“According to exploration rules, I have a box of candies I can distribute myself. I hope the Administrator will give him one each week. Don’t eat too many, it’s bad for your teeth…”

“Last of all, the same old curse…”

“You! Bastards! At! The! Human! Future! Research! Institute! Fuck! Your! Mothers!”

Compared to the earlier part of the will, the added text in the latter half appeared much more tranquil, but it was somehow even more weighty, indicating the writer’s acceptance of imminent death and reluctance to leave his child.

Setting aside the emotions, the other information provided was crucially important.
