Chapter 153: Chapter 153 The Entire Army Is Wiped Out_1 Chapter 153: Chapter 153 The Entire Army Is Wiped Out_1 Colin shook his head to himself, having thought there were quite a few survivors when he received this mission.
Now he realized the likelihood was they had all been wiped out…
But upon reflection, it wasn’t surprising, since those people lacked critical information, starting out with only the extreme level of “Book of Fate: Fragment” and not withstanding it was quite normal.
As a result, the significance of his few teammates by his side had increased.
Setting aside the fact that they had protected him along the way, it would be problematic if they died and the signal between Colin and Bonfire Company was cut off.
“Where are the other ‘survivors’ you mentioned?”
“Not very clear, and not easy to find,” the woman shook her head, explaining to Colin the current situation of the so-called survivor’s haven in Rain City and imparted to him knowledge about the “Narrator”.
In Rain City, it was not possible to gather too many people because the more people there were, the stronger the “Narrator” became, making chaos more likely to ensue.
Therefore, most of them now roamed in groups of about ten, occasionally exchanging information, but most of the time they didn’t make contact to avoid being completely turned into puppets by the “Narrator”…
Regarding food, they would rush into some supermarket buildings when hungry and fight with the local monsters for something to eat; here, resources would reset after a while, so food was relatively easy to solve—zero-dollar shopping could last for several months…
If they could seize it, they would; if not, they would reset.
“Then do you still remember, how did you originally get in here?” Dog Brother suddenly spoke up and asked.
“At that time, we tracked down a cult that worshiped the Red Moon conducting some large-scale summoning ritual in the international waters; bombing wasn’t a solution, so we had to send a large force to stop it. Although we stopped the ritual, we were swept into this place, and later on we found out that what they wanted to summon was something from here…”
The woman remembered clearly more than Gao Haiwen, who was deeply corrupted.
Red Moon Cultist? That “Hemorrhoid Spirit’s” colleague, huh? No wonder I smelled something familiar earlier. If nothing unexpected, the “crimson” is probably “Red Moon,” right?
Colin’s thoughts whirred, and then he reached out to touch his ring, asking “Yukionna” to keep an eye on her for any influence from the “Script Book” and then started speaking.
“A large force? What about those people from Lighthouse Kingdom? Weren’t you all united when you entered?”
“You know quite a lot.”
The woman gave Colin a somewhat surprised look. “At that time, they just happened to be tracing the same lead as us, so we just joined forces directly. In total, there were over four hundred people, but how many are left now, I’m not sure.”
Colin nodded, and since Yukionna had not given any alerts, he knew this should be the truth.
But…
These cults worshiping the Red Moon are really everywhere, causing trouble all over the world.
Not long ago, before entering here, he had just dealt with an incident involving the Red Moon Cult. Unexpectedly, his next mission encountered them again.
“Including Rain City, all places in ‘Passionate Paradise’ are hostile to the ‘Red Moon.’ As soon as they appear, they will soon be erased by some force, so now there is no need to worry too much about them,” the woman added.
“Is Rain City also at odds with the cultists? These guys are unwelcome wherever they go…”
Colin suspected that whatever entity the invading cultists of the Bonfire Company worshiped, supposedly the “Red Moon,” might be the same.
After some thought, the situation seemed to have opened up a bit but not completely.
He only knew there was a chance to reach other instances from the “rift,” but the specific location of the “rift” was still unknown.
“The ‘Reality Stabilization Device’ seems to be gone too. To get it, we’ll need to find other wandering survivors, but finding them is a matter of luck. However…”
Colin guessed the “Decree Book·Fragment” might serve an equivalent or even better purpose.
After all, the power of the Decree Book was one of the underlying forces used in the construction of Script City.
After pondering for a few seconds, Colin checked the progress of the investigation task—it had reached 90% completion after a single conversation, an increase of almost twenty percentage points compared to half an hour earlier.
He had a hunch that once the investigation was complete, the company would issue a mission that would determine their fate…
But before he could even open his mouth to ask, the armored car suddenly experienced a bout of weightlessness.
“Shit! Hold on tight! It’s slipping!”
The “Loafing Immortal” behind the wheel clung desperately to the steering wheel, slamming on the brakes, but it was futile.
Instead of slowing down, the damned thing actually accelerated…
Such an act defied all common sense of physics… Wait, physics?
Just as “Loafing Immortal” was about to say something, his face turned pale upon seeing the vehicle getting dangerously close to a roadblock. With a loud crash, the car tumbled repeatedly, sending up a shower of sparks and sliding dozens of meters before finally coming to a stop.
Inside the car, everything was in chaos, upside down. Everyone including Colin was not seriously affected, suffering at most some minor bruises. However, the woman, due to being tightly bound, ended up with blood streaming down her forehead, dazed and confused.
“The car’s flipped.”
Colin kicked open the rear door, dragged the woman out, and escaped from the upturned armored car, which was as helpless as an overturned terrapin.
There was no point even considering trying to flip it back.
And there was no time to worry about that because, as Colin crawled out, he saw a battered bus appear some tens of meters away, its headlights shining directly over.
From the scent in the air, he could tell there was an acquaintance on board—Gao Haiwen.
His presence made the reason for the crash clear—it was likely the other party had altered some rules again.
These abilities to change the rules were really troublesome…
“Senior ‘Ambassadors’ sure do have a variety of tricks up their sleeves, fancier than I imagined.”
Colin squinted against the glare of the vehicle’s headlights, looking towards the bus.
On top of the bus stood a man with a square face and cracked black-rimmed glasses, watching them with a sinister smile.
Despite his gratitude for the official senior Ambassador, who had helped him find a way to leave, this gratitude was for the normal Gao Haiwen, not this crazed, puppet-like figure.
“All you have to do is willingly offer up your bodies to become the vessel that will free my Master from this place, and you shall be bestowed with the highest honor!”
Gao Haiwen’s voice came over a loudspeaker from the bus’s location.
“The thing sealed in ‘Passionate Paradise’ has its sights on our bodies that haven’t died before?”
Colin unsurprisingly was not bothered much and ignored the comment, instead gauging the distance between them, which was about seventy or eighty meters.
His lethal attacks were mostly effective within ten meters; beyond that, it became difficult to handle.
As he glanced back at the overturned armored car, Colin knew the best strategy now was to blend into the local scene, learn zero-dollar shopping, and hijack Gao Haiwen’s bus…
Otherwise, if they stayed any longer, some terrifying things might start to chase them.
However, just as he’d made this decision, the “Narrator,” which had been silent for a while, appeared on Colin’s retina.
