Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Fierce Whirlwind_1 Chapter 112: Chapter 112: Fierce Whirlwind_1 He opened the door, and the anxious community committee lady burst in, cursing and grumbling.

“What time is it, still dawdling, hold tight now…”

As she spoke, she pushed Colin’s wheelchair out the door and quickly made her way to the fire escape, running down the slide next to the stairs.

There were also others who lent a hand, holding on to him so he wouldn’t go too fast.

But even with a firm grip, the wheelchair nearly slipped away several times.

“You’re really getting into your roles…”

Colin felt the wheelchair swiftly glide down the stairs, his eyelids twitching wildly as he nearly fell out multiple times…

Although with his current physique, even if he jumped down from the fifth floor he would be okay, the drifting in the stairwell still made him hold his breath, a bit afraid to exhale.

Fortunately, he lived on the sixth floor, and it wasn’t that high, so after a few turns, he arrived at the first floor…

Then, Colin was sped on his wheelchair to the park.

At this moment, the park was already filled with a large number of people. However, they were all grinning and chatting about this novel exercise, apparently not taking it too seriously.

One could say that, unless someone was really confined to an ICU or a hospital bed and truly couldn’t come out, everyone who could participate had joined in.

Of course, the key point was that participating in this exercise included paid time off…

At that time, Colin’s heart skipped a beat as he detected a group of steady-footed people, dressed in black uniforms and clearly different from the others, approaching.

Just as Colin wondered if he had been exposed, he saw them pass by him and head in a different direction…

Following the direction they were heading, Colin saw that there seemed to be an argument there.

Clearly, not everyone was willing to take part in the protection exercise. However, after three warnings, those who still refused to comply were forcibly shoved into the car and taken away.

Without looking any further, Colin took his gaze off those who had been pressed onto the police cars.

Then, he slightly moved his eyes, looking over the crowd and lifting his head a little…

“The more people there are, it seems the thicker it gets, but this ‘line’ doesn’t make me feel connected at all. I don’t feel it drawing anything from me or that I’ve gained anything from it. What’s the use of this?”

Colin pondered, quite puzzled about the purpose of this device.

He knew this thing was not simple and must be the creation of some government department, but he had no idea what it was for…

However, it did seem that the officials had some impressive methods at their disposal.

The only thing that relieved Colin was that he didn’t seem to have been discovered by the officials…

“It seems that this thing can’t read people’s memories or anything; otherwise, the community committee lady who just knocked on my door to involve me in the act should have been replaced by someone from community care.”

Colin murmured to himself, then under the push of the community committee lady, he was placed in an area designated for the “old, frail, sick, and disabled.”

Besides him, there were many other people in wheelchairs or who couldn’t take care of themselves…

Looking at these people here, Colin suddenly felt a bit guilty because the “old, frail, sick, and disabled” area was clearly more spacious and cooler than other places.

At that moment, a volunteer handed him a bottle of mineral water. Colin accepted it with thanks but didn’t open it. Then, he heard the kind volunteer ask, “Do you need help opening this… uh? How come it’s you…”

Colin turned his head to look, oh, what a coincidence, wasn’t this the girl who wanted to help him over the threshold not long ago?

The girl with the “Volunteer” armband on her arm widened her eyes, seemingly questioning, aren’t your legs functioning well?

The atmosphere suddenly became somewhat awkward…

“You…”

“I have ‘Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).'”

Colin told the big truth and pulled up his trouser leg, showing off his somewhat thin calf.

Although he had taken three doses of Gene Compensation Medicine, his body hadn’t recovered that quickly from a year of torture by ALS; as a result, he still looked a bit frail.

Of course, when he actually moved, he could sprint two kilometers without so much as huffing and puffing.

“Sorry, I thought…”

The girl scratched her head and changed the subject with an embarrassed expression, “Do you, want me to help you open the cap?”

“No need…”

Colin opened the bottle himself and took a sip, and after the girl left, he shook his head, feeling an indescribable strangeness at the bottom of his heart.

Then, with not so strong a sense of guilt, he remained seated until about four o’clock, when the drill finally ended.

“In the following month, there will be drills every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. The time remains the same, and everyone should prepare mentally…”

At the park entrance, the loudspeaker played over and over again the upcoming earthquake drill plan.

With the “help” of that girl earlier, Colin returned to his room—the committee auntie had been there to assist, but when she saw the girl take the initiative, she stepped aside with a face that looked like she was watching drama unfold.

“Building B, unit 604, right? I’ll help you with the drills next time. I’m really sorry about today…”

“It’s okay, thank you.”

Colin waved his hand and shut the door with a bang. After she was gone, he gently tapped his finger on the armrest of the wheelchair as if pondering something.

“She probably isn’t a problem; I can’t sense any malice or anything special about her. She’s likely not an employee from another company. From her outward behavior, I can’t spot any issues… Maybe she’s just a genuinely good person?”

If the conversation had ended with the opening of the bottle cap today, Colin might not have thought much about it, perhaps just lamenting that it had been a long time since he had encountered such a kindhearted and enthusiastic person.

But then she came closer again…

His mind instantly became alert, suspecting that she had ulterior motives.

The “Dark Forest” rule of the company, along with the fact that he had “shown his face” recently, made him somewhat sensitive and inevitably suspicious of her actions.

After all, in Colin’s view, even those employees from companies with official backgrounds weren’t necessarily safe.

If he had nothing on him, that would be one thing; but the key issue was that he was currently in a “guilty by possession” situation.

Just the mere possession of “Time Stasis” and “Revolver Contrarian” was enough to make some people so envious that they might act outside the rules.

“I only have Level F Authority now, and my strength isn’t quite enough. If I were to be discovered, many of the high-value items on me would likely be swiped.”

“For others, being stripped bare might mean nothing more than a fall from grace, but for me, it would be fatal, considering all the high-risk missions I still have…”

“And they certainly wouldn’t like to see me undertaking a project as significant as the Descent with such ‘high-value’ items…”

Colin felt as though he was playing a game of wits with the air, but after considering possible outcomes, he thought he couldn’t be too cautious.

Still, after thinking about today’s events, in the end, he didn’t come upon much of discovery…

“Forget it, I’ll set some traps in the room, think about ways to escape. Just be careful, that’s all. It’s not like I’m going to kill someone over this kind of thing, right?”

Colin exhaled, not dwelling on it any longer because further thought would only lead to an endless chain of suspicions.
