Clearly, something a girl would like.

It was unexpected yet somehow not; after all, a year had passed, and it wouldn’t be strange if he had really started dating a new girlfriend.

She had thought he would be too busy with his experiments abroad to have time for a new girlfriend.

It seemed she had been too presumptuous!
