Chapter 111: Chapter 111 - The Scent of Fireworks on Him
But tonight’s dinner was all seafood. Didn’t that mean there would be hardly anything for him to eat?
"I’m sorry, I didn’t know," Shen Weiyi said, her face full of guilt. He had carefully prepared so much food for her, yet she didn’t even know that he disliked seafood.
"These were meant for you," Sheng Ting said with a smile. "As long as you like it, that’s what matters."
"What about you?" Shen Weiyi asked.
"I prepared something else for myself."
Sheng Ting pulled out a tissue, wiped his hands, and then stood up to bring out a bowl of porridge from the kitchen.
Shen Weiyi looked at the seafood feast in front of her and then at the simple bowl of white porridge in front of him, and immediately felt quite bad.
However, some people manage to make even eating a pleasing sight to behold.
Because Sheng Ting disliked seafood, almost the entire table of dishes ended up in Shen Weiyi’s stomach.
"I’m so stuffed! I didn’t expect your cooking to be this delicious," Shen Weiyi said contentedly, holding her stomach after the meal.
Sheng Ting looked at her and laughed, "It might be because the seafood here isn’t polluted, preserving the freshness of the shrimp and crab to the greatest extent, so you think it’s tasty."
"It’s also because your cooking skills are great, bringing out the best of the ingredients." If she hadn’t seen him cooking from his phone, Shen Weiyi would have never believed that this was his first time cooking seafood.
Indeed, some people are born more capable than others, skilled at everything they do, as if nothing can ever stump them.
"If you like it, I can cook for you again tomorrow," Sheng Ting said with a smile.
Shen Weiyi shook her head, "No need. I’ve had my fill today, you can cook for me another time." Firstly, dealing with seafood was really troublesome and she hadn’t been of any help; secondly, he had made a whole table of dishes yet had hardly eaten any himself.
"Okay!" Sheng Ting nodded, "I’ll clean up the table and kitchen, why don’t you go for a walk in the yard to digest a bit?"
"I should do it!" Shen Weiyi said, feeling embarrassed, "You cooked the meal and I was no help, let me take care of this small task!"
"No need," Sheng Ting replied, "You are the guest, it’s not right to make the guest work."
"That’s not right, who just eats without helping out. If you don’t let me help, I won’t have the face to eat your cooking tomorrow," Shen Weiyi insisted.
"Then let’s do it together," Sheng Ting finally conceded reluctantly.
"That works."
In the kitchen, Sheng Ting washed the dishes and cleaned the stove, while Shen Weiyi dried the dishes and utensils, placing them in the cupboard.
The two of them worked efficiently with a clear division of labor.
After putting the last bowl in the cupboard, Shen Weiyi looked up at the person beside her and suddenly felt that he had an added touch of real life warmth about him.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Sheng Ting rolled down his sleeves, picked up the kitchen’s trash bag, and asked Shen Weiyi, "Do you want to go for a walk?"
"Sure!"
The night in the small town was exceptionally peaceful, lacking the bright lights and hustle of the city. The scattered lights under the night sky felt warm and comfortable.
Moreover, the temperature was several degrees lower than in the urban areas, and the cool breeze dissipated the heat of the summer.
Since entering the small town, Shen Weiyi had felt a tranquility she had never experienced before. Her whole body and mind relaxed, putting aside all her unhappiness for the moment.
