Chapter 48: Chapter 45: The Qin Family Cancels the Engagement (3 Updates)
Hu Yuzhi, anxious for her daughter’s sake, gathered the money she initially borrowed for a house from Yin Tongshu that afternoon and transferred it to Shen Jianian, then called her, hoping she would fulfill her promise.
Shen Jianian saw the caller ID but didn’t answer, not wanting to hear Hu Yuzhi’s voice, which would only irritate her.
She kept her word; upon receiving the money, she issued a letter of forgiveness, letting Yin Shuyao off the hook.
Yin Shuyao returned home and fell seriously ill, suffering from a high fever, which quickly extinguished her arrogance, and she no longer dared to trouble Shen Jianian. She hid at home all day, not even going to the company, recuperating and preparing for the wedding simultaneously.
Marrying into the Qin Family was her obsession; with the wedding approaching, she couldn’t afford any mistakes.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned; the news of Yin Shuyao being taken away by the police reached Qin Fan’s ears.
Qin Fan had been frequenting nightclubs for several days, and he randomly heard the news about his fiancée from an old friend. He immediately sobered up, took a shower at the hotel, and returned home feeling refreshed.
His sister, Qin Sang, was at home arranging flowers. A heap of freshly air-shipped flowers was laid out on the table, and she was meticulously trimming and bottling them, showing great patience.
Qin Fan entered, arrogantly swinging car keys with his fingers, "Where’s Dad?"
"You’re about to get married, yet you still don’t restrain yourself, idling away day after day, only hanging around women. How could I have such a disappointing son?"
At that moment, Qin Zhongtian came downstairs, dressed in formal attire, tugging at the belt around his waist. Seeing his son hadn’t returned overnight annoyed him. No need to ask, he had been out fooling around last night.
In the past, Qin Fan would have jumped up to retort when hearing criticism from his father, but today he was obedient, patiently listening until his father finished speaking, then smiled and said, "Dad, whether this wedding will happen is really uncertain."
Qin Sang, standing by the table arranging flowers, paused and raised her eyes to look at her older brother.
Could it be that he still wouldn’t give up and wanted to continue resisting?
"What are you talking about?" Qin Zhongtian, usually possessing a naturally authoritative demeanor, looked as fierce as a tiger ready to pounce when stern, "The invitation cards have already been sent out, and if you regret it now, it’ll embarrass the entire Qin Family!"
Qin Fan casually sat down on the sofa, leaning against the back with his arms wide open, stretched on both sides. He spoke slowly, "Bringing that woman home is what will truly disgrace the Qin Family."
Qin Zhongtian was about to leave, but stopped when he heard those words, turning back to ask, "What do you mean by that?"
"I just heard today that Yin Shuyao was taken away by the police for something she did," Qin Fan said disdainfully, frowning and pouting, scrunching up his features, "Can our Qin Family accept a woman who has been in a police station? Wouldn’t it be laughable? Better cancel this marriage before our certificates are issued, and the wedding is held."
Qin Zhongtian asked, "Is what you said true?"
"I heard it from a buddy," Qin Fan said, crossing his legs and shaking his foot nonchalantly, "His family lives around the Yin Family villa; he saw it himself, how could it be false?"
Qin Zhongtian’s face darkened, "If that’s the case..."
Qin Fan, beaming with joy, interjected, "Does that mean the wedding should be canceled?"
He honestly didn’t want to get married so soon; all his great buddies were bachelors, and he was the only one marrying young, and to a woman he didn’t love, just because they had slept together once. The thought made him feel suffocated.
Recently, he had been obsessively thinking about how to get out of this marriage, feeling like he was going mad. Luckily, fate did him a favor by delivering such vital news.
The Qin Family was a prestigious family, originally not on the same level as the Yin Family, so under no circumstances could they accept a woman with a blemish.
Qin Zhongtian thought for a moment in silence and then said, "I will verify this, but let me tell you first, your grandmother will be difficult to deal with on this matter."
Qin Sang put down the scissors she was using to trim the flowers and stood by Qin Fan’s side to speak up for him, "That Yin Shuyao is indeed unrefined. When accompanying her to shop for a dress, I noticed she’s not of good character, flaunting the title of Young Mistress of the Qin Family before even entering the door."
She didn’t want to deal with a troublesome sister-in-law in the future either.
Qin Fan gratefully threw his sister a flirtatious glance, then turned to his father with a pained expression, complaining, "Dad, you heard it too. I can’t marry such a petty woman. Living together in the future would be a disaster."
Qin Zhongtian pinched his brow, feeling vexed, "Alright, I have things to attend to, we’ll discuss this later."

Yin Shuyao, having just recovered her health, prepared to be a beautiful bride, but was struck by shocking news: the Qin Family wanted to call off the wedding.
It was like a bolt from the blue.
Hu Yuzhi was equally shocked, accidentally knocking over an exquisite bone china cup, "Who told you that?" She rushed to Yin Chengde’s side, grabbing his arm and shaking him.
The news was brought back by Yin Chengde.
Yin Chengde looked ashen and sighed, "At tonight’s dinner, Qin Zhongtian was also present. He somehow found out about Yaoyao’s incident with the police and subtly expressed Qin Fan’s intention to call off the marriage."
"Impossible!" Hu Yuzhi shook her head with wide eyes, "The marriage was promised by Old Mrs. Qin herself, the date was calculated by a master, and invitations have been sent. How could they just cancel? Didn’t you clarify things?"
"There were a lot of people around, I couldn’t very well ask too much."
Yin Chengde loosened his tie and sat defeated on the sofa, resting his hand on his knee, hanging his head and sighing repeatedly. If his daughter’s marriage with the Qin Family’s eldest son fell through, the company would struggle to overcome the crisis, how could he not worry?
Hu Yuzhi’s face turned pale, trembling lips murmuring, "We can’t...we can’t let the Qin Family call off the wedding."
Calling off the wedding meant what? The company would be finished, the Yin Family would be finished, and her daughter would be finished, too.
She had just transferred money to Shen Jianian, making the company’s cash flow even tighter. Without new funds, the company might face bankruptcy, and the Yin Family would follow it to ruin, with her daughter becoming the laughing stock of the entire circle.
If her daughter was rejected before the wedding, what prestigious family would still be willing to marry her?
She had painstakingly raised her daughter; it couldn’t end with marrying an ordinary man...
"Mom, what should we do?" Yin Shuyao, faced with adversity, could only cry, looking at her mother with teary eyes, completely out of ideas.
The position of the Qin Family’s Young Mistress was coveted by numerous debutantes in Yicheng, so close to falling into her lap, how did it come to this?
"What time is it now?" Hu Yuzhi, speaking, looked up at the clock on the wall; it wasn’t too late yet, "Let’s go to the Qin Family now to ask for clarification; the wedding banquet is already booked, they won’t easily back out."
Whether she was comforting her daughter or herself was unclear.
At nine in the evening, the family of three visited, hurried, without a prepared gift.
Old Mrs. Qin had finished dinner, watched some TV, and with the help of servants, lay down on bed. Her bedroom was on the ground floor; shortly after lying down, she heard some commotion in the living room and asked the servant what it was.
The servant bent down near the bed, and replied in a low voice, "The Yins came for a visit, all three of them, but it’s unclear for what reason."
"This late, what could be happening? Help me up, let’s see."
Old Mrs. Qin draped a piece of clothing over her shoulders, walked out of the room, and saw the scene where Hu Yuzhi was trying to smile, while Yin Chengde with their daughter nearby, explaining briefly, "A few days ago, Shuyao and her sister had a conflict, and somehow the police got involved, and it got ugly. Qin Zhongtian implied that Qin Fan wants to call off the engagement."
"Calling off the engagement?" Old Mrs. Qin looked at her grandson, frowning, and chided, "The very thought is to act thoughtlessly."
Hu Yuzhi felt slightly relieved, as she knew the Old Mrs. Qin was not one to go back on her word easily, keeping her traditional views.
But Qin Fan, hearing this, got anxious and said, "It’s really nonsense!"
With tears streaming down, Yin Shuyao defended herself, "I was just joking with my cousin, and she reported me to the police. It wasn’t that serious; I already apologized, and she forgave me."
Qin Zhongtian had sent someone to investigate and confirmed it was indeed a minor dispute between the young girls, nothing more severe.
"I’m going to bed," Qin Sang said, seizing the opportunity to leave, "I’ve got classes early in the morning."
Some words were not suitable to be discussed in front of the old lady.
