Chapter 45: Chapter 42: Cooperating with the Investigation

After resolving a major issue on her mind, Yin Shuyao left the company feeling relieved and drove to the Silver Sea Hotel to meet with Hu Yuzhi.

The mother and daughter enjoyed a delicious and sumptuous dinner in the luxurious private room.

The hotel manager personally served them, for a simple reason: the Silver Sea Hotel is a property of the Qin Family. The manager had earlier received news that the eldest son of the group was going to have a wedding with the Yin Family’s daughter on the 24th of this month.

Today, Mrs. Yin came to finalize the dishes and drinks for the wedding banquet.

The mistress of the Qin Family is hospitalized with a terminal illness and is likely unable to attend her son’s wedding, so all matters have been handled by the mistress of the Yin Family.

The attitude of respect and enthusiasm from the manager greatly satisfied Hu Yuzhi’s vanity, prompting her to compliment him generously as she left, "The young man knows how to handle things."

The manager, in his thirties, was dressed in a black suit, smiling as he escorted the two to the outside of the hotel, his hand close to his lapel, bowing slightly as he helped open the rear car door, instructing the driver up front, "Drive steadily."

Yin Shuyao had some red wine at the dinner table, so naturally, the car was driven by the hotel’s dedicated driver.

As the car door closed, the smile on Hu Yuzhi’s face remained satisfied and relieved. She whispered to her daughter beside her, "See, this is the benefit of being the young mistress of the Qin Family."

Yin Shuyao ran her fingers through her hair, feeling a touch of pride, yet maintained a modest smile on her face, "It’s alright."

Hu Yuzhi, understanding her daughter’s nature, only smiled lightly, patting her on the head, "I knew my daughter was destined for a great life, unlike that little bitch Shen Jianian."

Yin Shuyao’s expression tightened as she pouted, "Don’t mention her, we won’t see her for long."

Earlier during their meal in the private room, due to the frequent visits of the server with dishes, they didn’t discuss Shen Jianian, only talking about wedding matters.

Now, with only the mother and daughter, and the driver concentrating on the road, Hu Yuzhi couldn’t help but lower her voice, "What do you plan to do about Shen Jianian? That night of Old Mrs. Qin’s birthday feast, you saw it too, Qin Zhongtian’s attitude towards that little bitch was unusual. If she stays in Yicheng, who knows what trouble she might cause?"

The bright lights from the shops along the road reflected on the car windows. Sitting by the window, Yin Shuyao’s pupils were illuminated, "After tonight, I’m sure she won’t be found in Yicheng."

Hu Yuzhi watched her daughter’s face flicker in the light, an inexplicable unease in her heart.

Yin Shuyao covered her mother’s slightly cool hand with hers, "Don’t worry, I’m confident."

Hu Yuzhi’s unease was soon confirmed.

Shortly after eight o’clock, as the car passed through the black iron gates of the Yin Family villa and slowly stopped, the driver got out and left.

The whole villa was brightly lit against the dark sky, unusually quiet. As birds flew past, the flapping of wings could be heard, adding to the peculiar atmosphere.

Once inside, the eerie air grew stronger.

The servants stood far at the outskirts of the living room, their demeanor restrained and solemn, avoiding unnecessary gazes and eavesdropping, neither aware of the return of the lady and young mistress of the house.

Within the solemn atmosphere, a deep male voice could be heard, tinged with incredulity and a hint of panic, "Are you sure there’s no mistake? This can’t be possible."

It was Yin Chengde explaining something to someone.

Hu Yuzhi felt anxious, a bad premonition creeping in as she turned past the dividing wall, the view widened, and she saw several men in dark blue uniforms sitting on the sofa.

Following her, Yin Shuyao saw the scene in the living room and panicked even more.

Why were the police at their house?

One of the policemen was the first to notice the newly arrived mother and daughter. He stood up and sternly addressed the young Yin Shuyao, "Are you Yin Shuyao? We received a public report that you are suspected of secretly taking photos, spying on others’ privacy, and threatening and intimidating them. You need to come with us."

The other two policemen looked over, their eyes like torches fixed steadily on Yin Shuyao.

Yin Shuyao’s heart sank, her hands dropped powerlessly, and the handbag in the crook of her arm fell to the ground. She didn’t know what to do and instinctively shook her head, wanting to deny it, "No, it wasn’t me, you must be mistaken."

"That’s what I’ve been saying, there must be a misunderstanding." Yin Chengde, willing to believe in his daughter, stood up to speak on her behalf, "Officer, may I ask who made the report? Are you sure the person mentioned was my daughter Yin Shuyao? My daughter has always been obedient and gentle, and as you can see, we are well-off, she wouldn’t need to violate someone’s privacy or threaten them."

"Whether there’s a mistake, we will verify it. For now, please come with us for investigation."

The police officer adjusted his attire, maintaining a righteous stance, not letting Yin Shuyao’s denial or Yin Chengde’s plea easily sway him.

"Officer, my daughter is getting married in a few days, and taking her to the police station at this juncture is inappropriate. Can’t you see..." Yin Chengde, anxious and frustrated, tried to slip money into one of the officers’ hands.

The officer sternly pushed his hand away with great force, "Sir, we understand your feelings, but please do not obstruct our duty!"

From the moment she returned home, Hu Yuzhi had been in a daze. It wasn’t until her husband mentioned the wedding that she snapped awake, fiercely holding onto Yin Shuyao, protecting her from anyone’s touch.

"No! You can’t take my daughter away!"

If the Qin Family found out Yin Shuyao was taken to the police station, regardless of the outcome, she couldn’t imagine the consequences.

Yin Shuyao was trembling, her neck shrunk as she snuggled in Hu Yuzhi’s arms, tears unknowingly streaming down her face, pleading, "Mom, help me, I can’t go."

"Don’t worry, Mom won’t let anyone hurt you!" Hu Yuzhi’s face was resolute and fierce, unwilling to back down no matter what.

"Please cooperate with our investigation."

No matter the resistance from the family of three, Yin Shuyao was eventually taken away by the three policemen.

With a bang, the door shut, letting in a gust of cold wind.

Hu Yuzhi slumped to the icy floor as if her spine had been removed. Her face lost its color, resembling a freshly molded plaster bust.

The maids waiting outside the living room looked at each other, finding the same bewilderment and panic in each other’s eyes. They weren’t sure what had happened, but the fact that the young mistress was taken away by the police was undeniable.

The older maid who usually attended closely to Hu Yuzhi was the first to calm down. She went over to help the person off the ground, softly comforting, "Mrs., don’t worry too much. There might be a misunderstanding; once it’s clarified, they’ll release the young mistress."

Hu Yuzhi suddenly snapped back to reality, her eyes focusing on the maid, her words rekindling hope within her.

Yes, maybe it’s just a misunderstanding; she couldn’t let her daughter face it alone.

Hu Yuzhi took a deep breath and pulled herself together, quickly tidying her makeup and attire, and said to her husband, who sat solemnly on the sofa, "Yaoyao has been taken away, are you planning to just sit and wait? Come on, go with me to the police station to understand the situation. I want to see who made the report to slander our daughter!"

Yin Chengde had just arrived home, his thoughts disrupted by the sudden incident. Hearing his wife’s words provided a clear direction, and he hurriedly nodded, "Yes, yes, we’ll go now, we can’t wait."

The maid retrieved Yin Chengde’s overcoat from the coat rack, brought it to him, and he put it on while calling the house driver.

They hurried the whole way, fortunately avoiding traffic, arriving in just over half an hour. The car parked in a spot beside the entrance of the police station.

The couple got out, walking in step, only to unexpectedly encounter someone there.
