Chapter 29: Your lady boss
"After we part ways, your brother found me again. It was one of the days I went hiking, and you know, like in a novel, it was romantically bad, but he was so dashing," Julie said with a smile on her face, her expression dramatic.
"I was sitting on a high, big rock, and suddenly all I heard was ’hi.’ The deep voice was so nice to my ears, and you won’t believe it if I tell you something," Julie said with a screech of excitement.
Both of them looked at her with interest, wanting to hear what she wanted to say, and she was so happy.
Azazel, who couldn’t wait anymore, said, "C’mon, sis, please say it. Don’t let me die of being curious, please." Azazel urged her to continue.
"Hmm, at that time, I was thinking about him, and suddenly seeing him made me jump on my feet and bump into him.
"Then, guess what," Julie said, smiling ear to ear and blushing, because the person she was talking about was right in front of her, and she could clearly feel his eyes on her.
"What happened?" Azazel asked, keeping his chopsticks and turning to Julie curiously.
Taking a deep breath, Julie glanced at Roman, and their eyes met, but Julie was quick to take hers away, and she cleared her throat.
"He pulled me into his arms," Julie said with a girlish laugh, and Roman, who was observing her, didn’t know when he started smiling, but unknown to all of them, the reason for his smile was the way she was laughing, not the story she was telling, which was full of lies.
"Brother, I have no idea you’re such a romantic man—" Azazel said, drawling out his last word. Before he could finish, Roman threw the chopstick in his hand into the air, and it flew straight toward Azazel’s face.
Azazel dodged just in time. "I zip it," Azazel said, then turned to Julie. "Sis, I’ll go to my room for now. Enjoy; as you can see, my presence isn’t needed here."
Azazel stood up to leave, taking his bowl of rice and three slices of roast beef with him.
"Okay, enjoy," Julie said, glancing at Roman before continuing to eat her food now that Azazel was gone.
Roman sat silently, and Julie had almost forgotten he was there.
"This is excellent, though it’s starting to get cold, but it’s superb," Julie said with a big smile on her face.
Roman smiled again, but this time, he quickly masked it.
"I can see you’re full," Roman said out of nowhere, and Julie, who had been complimenting the cook, immediately turned toward the voice.
’He’s been here the whole time,’ Julie thought, surprised. ’Oh shit, I’ve been complementing his food and eating without noticing him.
’ Julie blinked, looking at Roman. "Yes, I am," she said, nodding her head in response to his question.
"Then follow me," Roman said, and Julie quickly dropped her chopsticks and followed him.
As they exited the mansion, they were greeted by the servants. "Good evening, sir," they all bowed in greeting.
Roman nodded, looking at them. "Hope Grandma already gave some instructions before coming here, right?" he asked, looking straight ahead.
"Yes, sir," they answered in chorus, aware of Roman’s cold demeanor and not wanting to offend him.
Roman nodded again and turned to his side, expecting Julie to follow.
However, Julie wasn’t directly beside him but behind him so the servants didn’t noticed her right away as he is wide enough to cover her.
When Roman moved back to stand beside her, everyone’s eyes turned to Julie, curious about her identity. ’Who is she?’ they wondered.
"Your lady boss," Roman announced, as if reading their minds, and immediately, they all bowed in greeting.
The servants greeted, "Good evening, ma’am." Julie replied warmly, "Good evening to you all." The servants were taken aback; they hadn’t expected her to acknowledge them.
Some thought, ’She’s not like other wealthy ladies who ignore us.’ One servant lady mused, ’She seems kind, but I’ll reserve judgment.’ The other one said in her head.
Feeling Roman’s gaze on her, Julie raised her face, and their eyes met. ’Will she stop like this without saying anything?’
’Why is he looking at me now, have I done something wrong?’ Julie said in her head, looking at him.
"Is there something I have done wrong?" Julie asked, voicing what was on her mind.
Roman’s voice was not above a whisper, so others wouldn’t hear what they were saying.
"No, you didn’t, but you should say something and appoint them one by one to their positions."
The servants and guards watching the scene thought the couple was saying something lovely or flirting with each other, which is why they were whispering and looking into each other’s eyes.
"Oh, is that so? Alright," Julie said and turned to the servants, who were watching them with interest.
"Please introduce yourselves," Julie said with a polite smile after knowing what to do next.
Julie asked them to introduce themselves not bothering to introduce herself because Roman heard already said what supposed to be said.
The servants began introducing themselves one by one. "I’m Carla," the first one said, followed by "I’m Rose," and the rest followed suit, saying their names one by one: "I’m Elizabeth, I’m Malone, ma’am, I’m Tod, ma’am." The last one said with a slight bow.
"You all have nice names," Julie said. "So now, tell me what you like to do the most. Is it being in the kitchen, or maybe the garden, or maybe... baking?" She drawled the word a bit and laughed at the end, easing the atmosphere.
The servants’ responses were enthusiastic. "I like to cook, ma’am," Carla said, beaming with a smile.
"I like gardening, ma’am," Tod said, smiling ear to ear, and he was the youngest among them all.
"I will tidy everything," Elizabeth said, also smiling, feeling that their new mistress was easy-going.
Roman watched Julie, who easily got along with the maids and lightened the atmosphere.
The maids were no longer on guard; they seemed relaxed.
"Ma’am, I would like to stay in the parlor and serve you whenever Carla brings you tea," Malone said, which made Julie smile ear to ear.
Everyone turned to Rose, who hadn’t said anything. "I would like to help Carla in the kitchen, ma’am," Rose said with a simple smile on her face.
"I’ve listened to all of you and heard what you like doing," Julie said, her eyes scanning the group.
"But, Carla, you will be the head maid here." Julie said and watch as Carla’s face faltered for a moment, but she quickly composed herself and smiled again.
"Don’t worry, I won’t stop any of you from doing what you like," Julie said with a big smile on her face.
"Carla, you can work in the kitchen and still be the head maid. I’m okay with what you’ve suggested and what you all want to do."
Julie said and continue" I have appointed you as the head maid because you are older than the rest and look more compose and I’m sure you will be more reasonable.
hope you don’t mind," She said not wanting to give the middle age woman what she wouldn’t like to do or be.
"Ma’am thank you for the compliment and I won’t let you down " Carla said with a slight bow.
"So, from now on, this is what you’ll do," Julie concluded, smiling as she looked at their smiling faces.
The servants nodded, seeming pleased with the arrangement.
"Come, follow me," Julie said, leading the way. Roman stood there, watching as the servants walked past him with Julie at the lead.
He couldn’t help but notice the change in atmosphere; the servants seemed more relaxed and happy.
As they walked, Julie asked questions about their duties and interests, showing genuine curiosity.
The servants responded enthusiastically, sharing stories and anecdotes about their work.
Julie listened attentively, making mental notes and offering words of encouragement.
Roman follow from a distance, observing the scene with interest.
He noticed how Julie effortlessly connected with the servants, making them feel valued and appreciated.
Her warmth and kindness were palpable, and it seemed to have a profound effect on the household staff.
As they reached the parlor, Julie turned to the servants and smiled. "Let’s get started, shall we? Carla, can you show me the tea selection? Malone, please prepare the parlor for our tea service.
" The servants nodded and began their tasks, their movements efficient and coordinated. \n(o)v.e\l.com
