Chapter 960: Chapter 532 Proving Yourself and the Peril of the Night_2
Now, Sean Knight’s sudden movement was very likely displaying something that set him apart from others.
Sean Knight’s shovel carefully stirred the debris, and everyone’s gaze followed the movement of his shovel.
Finally, a small hemp bundle was teased out of the dust.
After bringing out the hemp bundle, Sean Knight stopped what he was doing.
Seeing Sean Knight’s actions, Elder Hassan was even more puzzled.
Wasn’t this hemp bundle just the kind of thing that the villagers in his tribe normally wore?
What was so strange about it?
"Untie it and have a look," Sean Knight said to Elijah Hastings.
Elijah Hastings also picked up the bundle with some curiosity and prepared to open it.
As soon as he touched it, his expression changed.
"Boss, there’s something inside! And it’s quite heavy."
"Open it and let’s see," Sean Knight nodded, thinking to himself that if there were nothing inside, he wouldn’t have bothered to find it.
Elijah Hastings unwrapped the hemp bundle, and several yellow, shining objects appeared. Some as big as broad beans, others as small as green beans.
"Gold!"
"This is... gold!"
"There’s actually real gold!"
The few people brought by Elder Hassan all exclaimed in surprise.
Clarence Hughes’s eyes were also filled with astonishment and unexpectedness; he hadn’t anticipated that after Sean Knight mentioned gold slag earlier, now they would actually find gold particles.
He could clearly see that the hemp bundle and the gold had truly been shoveled out of the garbage pile and were not something Sean Knight had placed there beforehand.
This Sean Knight really did have some ability!
Only Elijah and the other two had an expression as if they had expected this outcome all along.
"This must have been the gold stashed away by the people from the base," Sean Knight analyzed, "It’s unclear whether they were too hasty when they left or if some other accident occurred, but in the end, they couldn’t take it with them."
"An unexpected windfall!" Elijah joked.
As they talked, he handed over the few gold particles to Sean Knight.
Sean Knight gestured towards Hassan and said:
"Better give it to Elder Hassan."
Elder Hassan did not refuse, excitedly taking the gold and saying:
"God bless, I hope the gold mine has not been completely mined out. If that’s the case, our tribe can be saved!"
"Let’s move on and take another look," Sean Knight did not respond to his words, but pointed outside and said, "Let’s see if there’s anything else in this base that we missed."
After a full inspection of the base, Sean Knight found two more places where rhizoma polygonati particles were buried.
However, the amount of gold was not significant; in total, it did not exceed 100 grams.
But that was enough to make Elder Hassan so excited that he could barely refrain from shouting out loud.
"Mr. Knight, can we now see if there is a gold mine nearby?" He seemed so excited he could hardly wait to say:
"They built this base here; the gold mine should be close, right?"
"Very likely," Sean Knight was also speculating, "Let’s first take a look around the area."
Exiting the base, a group of people followed the car tracks into the mountainous area.
"We have discovered a lot of traces of excavation around here," Elijah explained as they walked, "Though these traces were somewhat camouflaged, you can still make them out."
Elder Hassan took over the conversation with some embarrassment:
"Actually, our people searched around here too, but we didn’t find anything. Mr. Hastings is more professional; he found some places that had been disguised after coming here.
Because the engineering requirements were extensive, we didn’t disturb them, only conducting a cursory examination. We weren’t sure what exactly was beneath, so we didn’t want to involve too many people."
Sean Knight understood what Hassan meant. If it were clear that there was something buried in the cave, digging it up would naturally be more motivating.
If, after much effort, it turned out to be a wasted endeavor, nobody would be willing to do it.
In plain terms, they were hesitant to take the risk.
Sean Knight did not call them out on this and continued walking forward.
Arriving at the spot Elijah mentioned as being camouflaged, Sean Knight looked carefully and indeed noticed signs of downward excavation.
But judging from the direction and depth of the pit, it did not appear to be the golden mine he had imagined but was instead an abandoned exploratory mine cave that had been a failure.
Seeing Sean Knight shake his head, disappointment showed on Hassan’s face.
He was still not giving up and asked:
"Isn’t there a mine cave down there?"
"It’s a mine cave alright, but I’m not sure what kind. At least from what I can see, there shouldn’t be a golden mine here," Sean Knight said as he squatted down to examine nearby stones and soil. With Sky Eye, he could tell that the soil quality here was quite ordinary, definitely not a vein.
"Then let’s check the others. There are several more like this one here, all appearing to have been blocked up. We also don’t know where there might be something."
Because Sean Knight had found gold hidden in the base and had previously confirmed the mining slag from the abandoned base’s garbage pile, forming a complete chain of evidence, Hassan now had great faith in Sean Knight.
The group kept walking and examining, enduring the scorching sun, and looked at three more places suspected of being blocked up.
Sean Knight determined that two of those places were man-made excavations likely to be bunkers. One did appear to be a mine cave; it was very deep, with no end in sight.
The blocked-up section spread for twenty to thirty meters, and it was also not clear what specific kind of mine it was, or if it was a mountain cave dug for some other purpose.
Sean Knight shared his views with them. Hassan, growing a bit excited, immediately began making phone calls to summon people.
There was no signal in the area, so they could only contact others via a satellite phone.
Sean Knight hadn’t expected that before his arrival, Hassan would have been too afraid to dig. Now, just based on his own speculation, Hassan was ready to call people to excavate the cave.
