Chapter 96: Pirate Treasure Box?
Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Pirate Treasure Box?
Sean Knight had no idea that his caution in not selling the excess gold saved him from disaster. At the moment, he was in a big-bearded middle-aged white man’s courtyard, looking at his collection.
Looking at these things, Sean’s brows were slightly furrowed.
More than 90% of the stuff here was amusement park toys.
And they were the old-fashioned amusement park toys from the 1960s and 1970s.
For example, there were four old bumper cars, made of full aluminum and not rusty at all.
But nobody would want these things at any amusement park nowadays.
There was also an old carousel, which had rusted so much that it couldn’t turn anymore.
The big-bearded middle-aged man pointed at the carousel and said:
"It is guaranteed to work! Just replace the bearings and give it a good clean, and it will be as good as new!"
Sean looked at the half-meter deep weeds surrounding the carousel and thought: You don’t even take care of it yourself, leaving it here like garbage, and you want me to maintain it?
Sean shook his head, indicating that he was not interested in the carousel.
Seeing that Sean was planning to leave without buying anything, the big-bearded white man got a little anxious and hurriedly said:
"Come on, I have a treasure in my treasure room that I think you’ll be interested in!"
Sean looked at the mysterious big-bearded man named Bullock and thought it was a bit unreliable.
"Don’t worry, it’s an absolute treasure!" Bullock saw that Sean didn’t want to go and became a little anxious. He patted his chest and said, "It is said to be a treasure left by 18th-century pirates! I’ve been studying it for a long time, but I haven’t figured it out, and it’s of no use in my hands... "
In the end, Sean still went.
The so-called treasure room was actually a miscellaneous warehouse.
Bullock turned on the light, and Sean saw what was inside, immediately feeling disappointed.
The warehouse contained some disassembled metal amusement park equipment components, and in the far back, there was a square meter iron box.
Bullock went to the front, moved the clutter away, and pointed at the iron box, saying:
"This is it. I bought it from an old man whose ancestors were pirates. However, this box is very strange - it can’t be opened even with the key."
Sean saw that the box was surrounded by locks, the kind of hanging iron locks.
On the front lock, a large key was tied with a leather rope.
"I’ve tried many times, but I couldn’t open the box. I even wanted to cut the lock later, but I didn’t do it in the end."
Bullock patted the box and said:
"This was left by pirates, there might be hidden pirate treasure inside!"
Sean looked at the big hole that pierced through the front and back of the box and sneered, saying:
"Can something like this contain treasure? If it really held treasure, wouldn’t you have opened it been long ago?"
Bullock laughed awkwardly and said nothing.
This Chinese boy is not easy to fool!
Sean activated his Sky Eye and had already seen that the box was empty.
As for why Bullock couldn’t open the lock, it was because the box, which looked clumsy, actually had a hidden mechanism!
"This iron box looks good, give me a price!"
Bullock thought that Sean had given up, but when he heard Sean wanted to buy it, he immediately said:
"One thousand dollars! This is an antique!"
Sean shook his head:
"An empty box with a hole in it, for a thousand dollars? Do you think my money is easy to earn? I bet you’ve quoted this price to more than one person, and no one would give you a thousand dollars, right?"
Bullock’s face flushed with embarrassment, and he said:
"Well... 900 dollars then, cannot be less!"
Sean shook his head again.
"850 dollars! That’s the lowest I can go! If it’s any less, I won’t sell it!"
Sean shook his head once more.
"Eight hundred dollars! Eight hundred dollars!" Bullock said through gritted teeth, "Any less, and I really won’t sell it!"
Sean smiled and said:
"How’s this? I’ll pay a thousand dollars... "
"Really?" Bullock’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"But that includes those four old bumper cars outside along with this box, a total of one thousand dollars!"
Bullock thought about it and agreed.
Nobody had wanted those four old bumper cars for a while, so selling them for two hundred dollars was okay.
Bullock pushed a trolley, helped Sean load the box and four bumper cars onto the pickup truck, took the money, and waved goodbye as he left.
"Refer me to more friends whenever you can!" Bullock shouted while counting his money, "I’ll have more good stuff coming in soon!"
Sean waved out the car window without replying.
He drove to a deserted place, pulled over, got out of the car, went to the back of the carriage, and carefully examined the pirate treasure box.
Of course, there was nothing in the treasure chest. In fact, it was just a large old-fashioned safe.
There was indeed nothing inside the safe.
Bullock couldn’t open the safe because the door was not on the side.
The locks on the side were just for decoration, meant to fool people.
With his Sky Eye, Sean could see the internal mechanical structure and carefully searched the top of the box, finding a small crevice.
He gently pried along the crevice with the knife he carried with him, forcing a piece of iron plate open.
Underneath the iron plate was a keyhole!
It perfectly matched the giant key tied with the leather rope!
Sean untied the leather rope, took the key, inserted it into the keyhole, tried turning it left and right, then twisted it to the right. The safe made a creaking noise and the internal mechanical structure changed. The lock was opened!
He lifted the lid and saw there was nothing inside, but Sean wasn’t disappointed.
His gaze fell on the inside of the lid. On the inside, there was a piece of old paper attached, torn in half, and it was hard to make out any unique feature.
Sean carefully peeled off the remaining half of the paper. The mark on the iron plate underneath the paper was slightly different.
Upon close inspection, there was a very small crevice.
Sean took out his knife again and gently pried along the crevice.
After fiddling for a while, he finally managed to pry it open a bit, and then used his hand to bend the iron plate.
Inside was a compartment, and Sean slowly picked up a thin oil paper wrap with his knife.
He opened the oil paper wrap to find a folded parchment inside.
Sean carefully unfolded the parchment to see lines, dots, irregular small patches, and a sun on it.
A map!
Are the lines the coastline?
Are the dots small islands?
Is the sun indicating direction?
Would the golden coin pattern in the middle of the map mean there was treasure there?
Sean’s heart thumped faster!
This was a bit magical!
Could he really have gotten his hands on a pirate treasure map in this day and age?
Was it true or fake?
After calming down, Sean wrapped the map back in the oil paper, put it in his pocket, closed the iron box, took out the key, and dragged it to Smith’s second-hand mall.
Smith should be interested in this, right?
