Chapter 949 - 528
Chapter 949: 528
"Search around, by now we should know to whom that mysterious organization specifically belongs," Sean Knight said. "Once we’ve dealt with this place, we’ll go find more clues."
As he spoke, he addressed Douglas Cooper, who had already begun searching:
"Look carefully, there should be monitoring equipment here. We can’t leave any information behind."
Having said that, Sean Knight looked at the body of Kimura Yoshikazu, who had fallen, without a shred of sympathy.
Inside the courtyard, there were more than just one skeleton buried; this Kimura was definitely not as "samurai-like" as he pretended to be!
There wasn’t much inside that was too surprising, apart from several antiques from ancient China and, in the basement, some militaristic flags and military uniforms. It seemed this old fellow was two-faced indeed.
"Burn it," Sean Knight said as he left the courtyard.
After erasing all traces, several people returned to the hotel where they were staying.
The second day, over breakfast, several people watched the news while eating.
On the news, in front of the now burnt-down courtyard, a reporter with a microphone was describing the fire incident. Two policemen were seen removing a beheaded skeleton from inside.
"Lincoln, if you hadn’t chopped off this guy’s head, maybe everyone would have really thought it was suicide," Douglas Cooper said while sipping on seafood porridge.
"I was inconsiderate," Lincoln Harrington said insincerely. "Who would have thought this old fellow had these things in his courtyard?"
The camera moved, and already some skeletons were being excavated from the courtyard.
"Boss, what will we do next?" Elijah Hastings asked Sean Knight, ignoring the banter between the two men.
"Let’s take a trip to where the Mikado lives," Sean Knight suggested. "Who knows, we might stumble upon some unexpected clues."
The other three people all pondered thoughtfully.
"Right, transfer some money to Emily Kelley," Sean Knight said. "Coming here this time was meaningful, and we made some money. I’ll transfer it to your accounts later."
All three of Elijah Hastings nodded. When it came to money, they never expressed opinions since Sean Knight always gave more than expected, an offer they couldn’t refuse.
Emily Kelley was persuaded to return before they took action.
Although Emily Kelley was eager to join such operations, she was denied - after all, unlike Elijah Hastings and the others, she was still living a normal life. Sean Knight and his team had no intention of disrupting the normal life of this girl from Nanjing City.
That night, they conducted reconnaissance near where the Japanese royal family resided.
However, this wide-net style of reconnaissance didn’t yield anything special.
So Sean Knight and his team were not disappointed.
Returning to the nearby hotel they had rented, Sean Knight and the others decided to rest for the night and continue searching for opportunities the following day.
Around midnight, while lying in bed, Sean Knight suddenly heard some unusual noises.
He immediately got up, drew back the curtains and looked down, noticing several unusual cars parked at the entrance of the plain hotel.
Faintly, he could hear arguing in the hotel lobby.
Sean Knight had a hunch that these people might be here for them!
He quickly dressed, left his room, and knocked on the doors of Elijah Hastings and the others.
"Boss, what’s wrong?"
"We’ve got trouble; let’s hide for now," Sean Knight instructed. "Pack up quickly!"
They swiftly returned to their rooms and then, according to the plan they had prepared, climbed out of the windows.
With their current abilities, scaling down from the windows, using the air conditioning exterior units and drainpipes, they quickly reached the ground.
"Go, across the road, let’s hide and see what unfolds!"
They had registered under false identities, but if they were to leave now, they would still surely be traced easily later on.
Moreover, Sean Knight and his team didn’t want to be targeted by someone in the dark without knowing who it was.
Those people indeed went to their rooms!
Through Sky Eye, Sean Knight could see that someone had broken into his room, searched fruitlessly, and left frustrated.
"Let’s go, hijack the people in the car and see who they are!"
Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings immediately moved behind the cars.
Douglas Cooper and Lincoln Harrington were keeping watch.
Three black cars with only three drivers in them.
Sean Knight and his team quietly approached the last car, yanked open the door, and controlled the driver.
To avoid attracting too much attention, the car lights were off, and it wasn’t very bright outside, so the drivers didn’t notice that one of their own had been subdued.
After seizing the driver, Elijah Hastings was about to interrogate him when he noticed the driver struggling desperately as if he’d rather dislocate his arm than be restrained.
"Bang!" With a punch, Elijah knocked the driver unconscious.
"Search inside the car," said Sean, "It seems we are going to be exposed anyway, might as well take care of the other drivers too!"
There was nothing left inside the car, so the two of them moved on to the next one.
Sean did not expect that the other two drivers would be just as stubborn, insisting on resisting to the death. Sean and his team complied with their wishes.
As they left, Sean discreetly placed a time bomb under the car. If someone wanted to mess with them, they had to consider the consequences!
The four men left the area, and soon after, more than a dozen men in black came down from upstairs. They quickly noticed something off about the drivers and began searching the surroundings.
Eventually, they didn’t find anything and drove away.
Nearly one hour later, a series of explosions occurred in the suburbs, and Sean and his team immediately followed the sound to its source.
To Sean’s surprise, the explosions happened on the road, not at any building.
Sean regretted setting the bomb’s timer a bit too short.
The clue had been lost again.
"Let’s go back to China," Sean said, realizing that continuing in this manner was futile, "The enemy is hiding in the shadows, and as long as we stay here, we’ll remain within their reach. Let’s go back and pull them out of their home turf!"
Although Elijah and the others were somewhat reluctant, they knew it was the best course of action.
The group went back to China and took a flight to Ocean City.
In Ocean City, Sean met Howard Richardson for a meal and then planned to return to Xinjiang.
Unexpectedly, the next day, before he could leave on his flight, Howard gave him a phone call.
"What’s up, Brother? You’re not telling me you miss me already?" Sean joked on the phone.
"Get out of here," Howard replied, "I actually can’t wait for you to leave, so you stop causing trouble with the girls of Ocean City—"
"Don’t throw that on me, I haven’t done such tasteless things," Sean wasn’t about to take the blame.
"Although you didn’t initiate, you didn’t refuse either," Howard had invited some girls to liven up the atmosphere at yesterday’s meal with Sean. The girls obviously took an interest in Sean with his unique charm. Sean left alone, but now Howard saw it differently.
"How could I refuse? Tell them I have several girlfriends?" Sean asked, "Enough chatter, what’s the matter?"
He guessed Howard’s call was about something serious.
"Somebody asked me about you, they want to talk," Howard said.
"Talk about what?" Sean was curious, "Do they want to buy antiques from me, or do they want to partner up to search for treasure?"
"Don’t joke, you’re actually on the right track," Howard laughed, "So, what do you say, want to meet?"
"Let’s meet," Sean felt it was necessary to see what it was about, considering he now owned an island thanks to meeting Oliver Brooks in Ocean City.
What would he gain this time?
The meeting place arranged by Howard was in a small restaurant in Ocean City.
Upon seeing Sean, Howard took the initiative to explain:
"Don’t judge by its size, but this place has a history of seventy years; it’s quite an institution. You can’t find it unless you’re a seasoned local, and the food is pretty good too."
Hearing this, Sean became genuinely interested—not just in the restaurant but, more so, in the person rushing to meet with him.
Observing the visitor’s attire and the particular scent they carried, Sean suddenly asked:
"Are you from Xinjiang, or have you stayed there?"
With that question, the other party was indeed taken aback.
