Chapter 870: Chapter 502: Desecrating Ancestral Graves, Counted as Accumulating Virtue?

Return to Manor, Sean Knight asked Elijah Hastings to keep an eye on Riley Montgomery, while he himself went off to spend a Two-Person World with Cheryl Suweton.

There was no noise the second day. Early the next morning, during breakfast, Elijah Hastings came to report.

"This Riley Montgomery is really talented," Elijah said, eating and talking with a plate in hand.

Cheryl Suweton knew that this was a time for serious matters, so she didn’t join them. Instead, she went to find some food she liked and ate by herself.

"What happened?" Sean was surprised that Elijah would give such high praise to Riley Montgomery.

"The day after we came back, early the second day, he brought dozens of local aborigines into the jungle. Boss, you have no idea, those local aborigines, they are really poor!"

Elijah described the situation:

"Their hair was all messy, wearing just a piece of cloth around their waists, and no shoes. Their food was especially simple, just some porridge."

However, these people were still good at working. Riley knew how to manage, assigning who would cut the trees, who would trim branches, and who would carry the logs out—

"Their tools were too primitive too, just logging axes, no chainsaws!"

"That poor?" Sean was also puzzled. With such tools, fifty thousand trees, when would they finish cutting?

"Yes, but they really work desperately hard. That Riley was working alongside them, shouting until he was hoarse... Just yesterday, they cut down more than forty trees in one day and transported them all out. Who knows, they might even be done today."

This was unexpected to Sean.

Was it that these people were too poor and thus cherished the work opportunity immensely, or was it that Riley Montgomery had a strong personal charisma that inspired these workers?

Maybe both factors played a role?

Sean didn’t get too involved in the matter, leaving the rest to Elijah to handle.

After finishing breakfast, Cheryl came over and took Sean’s hand to walk back.

"Shall we ask around and go out for a stroll?" Sean saw Cheryl’s expression and knew she was uncomfortable staying here.

After all, for someone used to roaming around like her, a brief stay was called tourism, an encounter with incidents would be an adventure.

But if the stay became too long, it turned into a disaster.

Otherwise, how could she, with the identity of a princess, end up being a Bounty Hunter?

Could it be that she was deceived by novels and legends like the female protagonist in ’Pirates of the Caribbean’?

Stop overthinking. In the information age, could the youngsters’ exposure to knowledge really compare to that of past generations?

"Forget it, there’s nothing fun left nearby," Cheryl shook her head, "Might as well stay on the Manor and wait for HarudaTomoko."

"Once HarudaTomoko is better and the jewelry has been distributed, my share will all be yours," Sean said, laughing, "It’s also because of you that I could handle these logs—

The day before yesterday we went into the forest and indeed saw many very nice logs."

"I’m very happy too," Cheryl actually didn’t care much about the treasure. What mattered to her was the treasure hunt with Sean. Sean had also not disappointed her expectations; not just once but repeatedly when danger struck, it was Sean or his partner who saved her.

This treasure hunting experience made her feel that the risks she had taken in her past adventures were rather unjust. Comparatively, the people Sean brought along on treasure hunts were almost exemplars of morality.

Whenever treasure was actually found during a treasure hunt, that was when human nature was truly put to the test.

Backstabbing was minor; allying with outsiders and killing for treasure were common practices.

That’s why most Bounty Hunters operate in a Family style now, so at least there’s less worry about betrayal.

Cheryl, being pretty and relatively honest, had a certain reputation in this profession, so people like HarudaTomoko would seek her out.

She could handle smaller jobs on her own. But for relatively big jobs like HarudaTomoko’s, she needed a partner.

Cheryl had partners before, but how could she, having experienced betrayal, dare to easily share such matters with others?

Sean was the best partner.

Their previous collaboration had proven his integrity, and this time it further demonstrated Sean’s moral standard, as well as his extreme luck.

So, Cheryl was actually very happy.

But the treasure hunt was over, and so the countdown to her parting with Sean had begun.

She treasured the opportunity all the more. Rather than wasting time visiting overrated scenic spots, she preferred to honestly stay in the Manor and enjoy a Two-Person World.

Dutt Rivera did have some feelings for Cheryl, but currently, due to the matter of the Divine Serpent, he no longer entertained such thoughts. Moreover, since the Serpent Deity had been Sean’s doing, he was a man of principle and adhered to the "bro code." He stopped interfering.

Early the next day, Elijah continued to report to Sean about Riley Montgomery:

"Boss, this Riley is indeed meticulous. Out of these one hundred logs, one-third are Sandalwood—there’s even old mountain sandalwood among them.

He knows just how valuable this old mountain sandalwood is, so he weighed it in kilos. After cutting, he trimmed down the twigs and branches, keeping them and piling them with the large wood.

As for the workers’ food, they brought their own, and I thought since this old mountain sandalwood is so valuable, maybe we could give them a few kilos to take out in exchange for some more substantial food?"

"You decide," Sean waved his hand, "Since I asked you to follow up, you make the decisions in this matter. Do what you think is right, let them take it out. The King of Hell is not short of hungry ghosts!"
