Chapter 747: Chapter 459: This guy’s cleverness lead him astray!
As the two were talking, the waiter had already brought the cooked seafood to the table.
It was just like Beckett Drake had said - the seafood was simply cleaned and the inedible parts removed, and then served on a plate.
The only extra thing was the bowl of ginger and vinegar sauce that Beckett had requested.
"Come on, let’s try the seafood," Beckett said with a smile, "These things would cost at least 1000 domestically. Here, it’s only a little over 200. Look at this lobster, you can’t even find it in ordinary restaurants back home!"
Beckett was telling the truth, and Sean Knight and the others naturally knew it. However, they had eaten a lot of seafood lately, so they weren’t too eager for it.
Beckett ordered two bottles of wine from the waiter.
"We’re not drinking beer tonight while having seafood. Gout – ordinary people can’t handle it. So, let’s have some white wine instead. We’re all grown men here, so we should be fine with the white wine, right?"
Sean nodded, and Lincoln Harrington waved his hand tactfully.
Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper looked at Sean and said,
"We’ll have one glass."
"Right, right. Let’s drink a bit more if you can handle it, and a bit less if you can’t," Beckett said with a laugh, unscrewing the cap and pouring wine for them. "I felt a connection with you guys the moment I saw you. Let’s enjoy our drinks!"
While pouring the wine, he patted Elijah’s shoulder and said,
"Brother, you look like you’ve been a soldier. With that body and stature, you’d definitely be the main character in a military drama!"
The waiter knocked and came in, serving the dishes one after another.
"It’s fate that we met in such a remote place. Come on, let’s drink!"
Beckett was very bold and generous, drinking in large gulps. He then looked at Sean and the others.
Sean didn’t follow his example, but picked up his glass, took a sip and said, "I have a limited alcohol capacity, so I won’t drink too much - it’s the thought that counts."
Beckett’s expression changed slightly and he said, "All right, just do what you like. Let’s eat. The signature dishes here are really good!"
The signature dishes here were indeed impressive, not only seafood but other items as well, like the water-boiled series. Sean felt that the dining hall was quite good.
In the past, when he came down from the yacht, he would basically take a car back to the living area directly.
There were professional cooks there to prepare food for them.
They had hardly eaten in this dining hall before. Now that they tried it, the taste was quite good!
It had the taste of a domestic restaurant, Beckett really was a gourmet.
"How is it? I told you it was good, right?" Beckett kept an eye on Sean, trying to gauge his expression. Once he saw that Sean was satisfied, he said with pride,
"Let’s drink some more!"
After three rounds, Beckett’s face turned red, but Sean didn’t think much of it. Meeting for the first time, this kind of enthusiasm felt a bit off to him.
On the contrary, Sean’s behavior was more in line with how one would usually act when meeting someone for the first time.
"... You’ve seen it as well, right? The big plane that went down a couple of days ago?" Beckett sighed after finishing his drink and placing his glass down. "What’s the point of life, after all? Just like the people on the plane: they were living fine until their lives were suddenly cut short. Their money ended up in someone else’s hands, leaving their families behind. I bet that plane wasn’t an ordinary one either, so the owner must not have been an ordinary person..."
"We don’t really know," Sean waved his hand dismissively. "We tried to get closer, but they didn’t let us."
"I’ve heard something about it," Beckett said in a hushed voice. "The person on that plane was a billionaire! He was carrying something worth several hundred million this time, but it ended up sinking to the bottom of the sea..."
"No wonder there have been so many salvage attempts these past couple of days," Sean said. "So that’s why. Did they find it?"
"Nope," Beckett confirmed without hesitation. "They didn’t find anything."
"You seem to be very well-informed! How did you know they didn’t find anything?" Sean asked back.
"Haha, I’m good at making friends," Beckett said, picking up his chopsticks to eat a piece of chicken and continuing, "You can see that. The more friends I make, the more news I hear."
"Oh—so that means that valuable stuff is still in the sea? What is it, and it’s worth a few hundred million?"
Beckett looked at Sean as if he wanted to find something from his expression, but when he saw the sincerity in his inquiry, he said, "I heard that the rich man was involved in cryptocurrency. The lost item contains the password for his cryptocurrencies. It could be a computer, or it could be a box..."
"Wouldn’t that get ruined in the water?" Sean questioned.
Beckett froze for a moment, realizing he was right.
They continued discussing the topic, but with a change in direction.
Sean just went along with the conversation, and when they had their fill and saw that Beckett had a bit too much to drink, he said to the waiter, "Check, please."
The waiter came over, they paid the bill, and Sean told her, "My friend here had a bit too much to drink. Let him rest here for a while and then leave when he’s sober."
Although the waiter hesitated a bit, Sean and the others left her with the task.
As soon as they left, Beckett immediately opened his eyes.
Looking through the window, a hint of disappointment flashed in his eyes as he watched Sean leave.
He initially thought that if he treated them to a meal, at the very least, they would take him in their car and back to where they were staying, seeing how drunk he was.
And that was his goal.
Even second best, they would take him out and find an inn in the service area to stay.
