Chapter 712: Chapter 446: Danger After Parting Ways_3

But looking at his interactions with Elijah Hastings and the others, there didn’t seem to be a significant class divide.

Was Sean Knight just too down-to-earth, or was their relationship different from what she’d imagined?

Or maybe Sean Knight was also from the army?

It didn’t seem so!

Marilyn Reynolds couldn’t figure it out, and Lincoln Harrington couldn’t explain it either, so they let it slide.

He didn’t want to blabber like Douglas Cooper, who rambled when his mind got dizzy.

In fact, Lincoln knew in his heart that even if something happened between Marilyn and him later, he wouldn’t talk nonsense.

Marilyn felt that this small team was mysterious everywhere and became more and more curious.

As the distance to the Capital City got closer, there were more cars on the road, and occasionally they could encounter villages and towns, making supplies no longer difficult. The people in the other convoys became more cheerful.

Over the walkie-talkie, everyone talked more and even occasionally joked about what they would do after arriving in the Capital City.

Sean Knight and his group didn’t speak much, making them seem a bit standoffish now.

Christopher Hughes took the initiative to ask them a few questions, but when he saw that they didn’t seem to want to talk, he gave up.

But still, he thought of them gratefully in his heart.

After all, he knew clearly that if it hadn’t been for Sean Knight and his team, they probably would have died at Mountain Pass.

When night fell, the convoy arrived at the Capital City.

"Sean, do you have a place to stay?" Christopher asked over the walkie-talkie.

"Yes, we’ve already booked one." Sean replied.

"Car No. 4 and car No. 5, are you staying with us or finding your own place?" Since it’s safe here, the convoys would likely separate soon.

"I’ll go on my own. I have a regular place to stay, and I suggest you go there too." The owner of car No. 4 replied.

"I have a place to stay, so I won’t go." The owner of car No. 5 hastily said.

The convoy came to a stop.

Christopher got out of the car and walked to Sean’s car in the back.

As Sean got out of the car, Christopher handed him a business card and said sincerely:

"Sean, we really owe you a lot for this journey! Without you guys, we might not even be here now... When we get back to our country, please contact me. I’ll treat you well!"

"Sure!" Sean took the business card and put it in his pocket.

But he thought it was unlikely that he and Christopher would cross paths in the future.

The owners of car No. 4 and car No. 5 came to say goodbye. Car No. 4 was in a hurry, and after saying a few words, hurriedly drove away as he had to take his daughter-in-law to the doctor

The owner of car No. 5 also left his contact information, but his request to exchange contact details with Sean was politely refused.

"Wendy, what do you think..." Christopher looked at Marilyn Reynolds.

"Manager Thompson, how are we going to proceed with our company?" Marilyn asked.

"We should rest for a while after we return and then make arrangements." Their company was initially established to deal with those energy resources in the fighting countries, and now that they were at war, things would definitely be on hold.

What to do? Wait.

"Alright, I won’t stay with the company people for now." Marilyn bit her lip and made a decision:

"I’ll go with Lincoln and the others."

It was quite bold of Marilyn to make this decision.

Both Christopher and Sean were a bit surprised.

However, Sean immediately said:

"Wendy will be under our care. Manager Thompson, rest assured, she’s still your employee, but also one of us. We’ll look after her."

He guessed that Marilyn had privately talked to Lincoln, but Lincoln hadn’t said anything to him yet.

But looking at Lincoln’s expression, Sean guessed he was wrong, and Lincoln was probably as clueless as him.

Christopher was stunned for a moment and couldn’t believe it, so he asked for confirmation: "Are you saying you want to go with Sean and his team?"

"Yes." Marilyn nodded.

"Our airplane will arrive tomorrow," Sean said with a smile: "and we’ll start our journey back home."

"Then... I wish you all a safe trip." Seeing that Marilyn had made up her mind, Christopher nodded and said, "Keep in touch and let me know if there’s any problem."

Marilyn nodded.

With that, the convoy disbanded.

After Christopher got back into the car, he asked the driver to drive.

Colleague Brown asked with some confusion, "What about Marilyn?"

"She’ll go with them, and won’t return to the company for the time being."

"What? She just trusts other people like that?"

"Little Brown, you must understand that he’s her classmate! They’ve been together for three years, perhaps even longer! They’re from the same place! You two are just colleagues for three months!"

Christopher hoped that Brown would come to his senses, but Brown still found it incredible.

But no one paid any more attention to him.

It was up to Marilyn, as an adult, to make her own decisions.

Besides, given their contribution to everyone’s safety and their low profile, they didn’t seem like bad people.

Although Christopher said that, he decided to contact Marilyn first thing when he got back to their country. In case he couldn’t reach her, he would contact her family.

Since she was one of their own, they had to take responsibility for her safety.

Sean and his team drove to the hotel they had stayed in before.

Since one car was lost, Elijah had already checked into the rooms after giving some compensation.

Marilyn breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Elijah had given her a separate room key.

She was afraid that because she had decided to stay, they would put her in the same room with Lincoln, and that would be awkward.

Marilyn admitted that her bold decision to stay had a lot to do with Lincoln, but she had no intention of taking their relationship to that level so soon.

Luckily, everyone seemed normal and had good intentions.

When they entered the sixth floor of the hotel, she found her room in the middle, with Elijah and Lincoln’s rooms on either side and Sean’s suite diagonally across.

It was as if her room was "protected" by them.

Marilyn felt touched.

When they entered her room, Sean didn’t immediately change his clothes but rubbed his head and called Elijah and the others to his room.

"Be careful tonight. Lincoln, make sure to protect Marilyn at the first sign of trouble."

"Boss, what do you mean? Did you find anything?" Douglas was the first to ask.

"When I checked in at the reception just now, I noticed a few foreigners staring at us with a strange look in their eyes."

Sean recalled and then said:

"It was like a hunting dog spotting its prey..."
