Chapter 683: Chapter 437: The Victory Came Quite Suddenly!

Looking at the simplistic sand table in front of him, Sean Knight’s eyes widened.

He had just told Elder Iman his plans, and Iman immediately had someone create a sand table of the nearby area.

Although only simply made, at least from what Sean had seen on the way here, the sand table was very accurate.

"There are some small earth mounds around our village, and just one road leading in from the east. The road is unsurfaced, situated above the Gobi."

The south, west, and north sides of the village are all desert, making the village the only oasis within a radius of more than ten kilometers.

However, because this place is basically on the edge of the Gobi Desert, there are no resources, so nobody comes here.

"If you want to set up an ambush, you’ll have to use these small hills. My warriors also know how to set traps, so they can work with you.

It’s for the safety of the people in our village, so we must do our best."

Having said that, Iman pushed Edgar Patterson forward.

Edgar now knew a few simple words in English.

Edgar took Elijah Hastings and others out and showed them the terrain nearby.

As Iman had said, the surrounding area was either Gobi or desert, with only a few small earth mounds serving as highpoints, not even a small hill.

The village is located near a small sand lake, which serves as the drinking water source for the villagers. According to Elder Iman, there is actually a spring mouth hidden within the sand lake, which is why there is enough water for the entire village to survive in such a hot season.

There are some trees around the village, but they mostly seem to have stopped growing for the time being.

With the baobab trees and other thorny plants stripped of their leaves, they look almost dead.

No grass can be seen near the village, making Sean wonder how the straw huts were built.

After listening to Elder Iman’s introduction, Sean learned that this place has both dry and rainy seasons.

Now is the dry season, so there is little sign of life.

However, in just over a month, the rainy season will arrive, and the area will suddenly teem with life.

It is said that there will even be fish in the lake and various plants will grow quickly around the village.

In the Gobi, the seemingly dead shrubbery will sprout leaves and bloom, releasing their seeds as fast as possible.

Not only the villagers but also the animals in the Gobi Desert are eagerly awaiting the rainy season.

"When the rainy season comes, it will be much more difficult for outsiders to reach us. The roads will be covered with vegetation and harder to find."

What a magical place!

For those who are used to four distinct seasons, experiencing a place with only two seasons is indeed surprising.

Sean wondered if he would be around to see the rainy season; if so, he would definitely take a good look.

"The stones you exchanged for the weapons were found deep in the desert.

In my decades as an elder, not only have there been treasure hunters, but also gem hunters and meteorite hunters who came to this place.

However, like Mr. Hastings, most of them ended up here after getting lost. After leaving, they never returned."

Iman spoke these words slowly, almost without any emotion.

Next, he appeared as an elderly man well-versed in the vicissitudes of life.

But Sean suddenly realized that this "old man" was only in his fifties.

When Sean’s grandfather was in his fifties, he could carry fifty kilograms of corn from the field to the courtyard without breaking a sweat. He could easily lift a forty-kilogram chemical fertilizer bag onto a tractor without any trouble.

The man in front of him, however, seemed to be losing his vitality too quickly. It felt like he was in the twilight of his life.

What a difference!

The men in the village mainly hunt, while the women dig for cassava, gather wild vegetables, and search for anything edible.

Due to the climate here, crops cannot be grown. So when the rainy season arrives, every household strives to gather all the edible things they can find and store them away.

During the dry season, they eat the stored food and try to limit their activities, or look for food that can be found in the dry season.

They go about their daily lives, just for the sake of finding food.

With the arrival of Sean and his group, the villagers, especially the old and young, have a little more time to relax.

However, they soon return to their unending search for food.

Their happiness and sorrow are so simple.

Iman and his fellow warriors bear much of the pressure that comes from the outside world.

No matter the outcome, the elderly and the young in the village seem to be able to withstand it.

At last, on the second day, news came from the sentries in the distance: a convoy with many vehicles was approaching the Gobi.

Upon receiving this information, the village immediately began making preparations in an orderly manner.

The old and young villagers had already hidden in their homes, and the warriors went to their battle positions with their guns.

Elijah Hastings and his group, along with Edgar and several other warriors with good gun skills, went to ambush the area, while Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper were busy at several other locations.

Sean stayed in the village with Elder Iman.

Much to Sean’s surprise, Elder Iman asked him for a gun and said:

"I’ve had experience with guns back when I used to work outside. Don’t worry, I won’t misfire. My aim might not be great, but at least it will be intimidating."

Considering his physical condition, Sean gave him a pistol.
