Chapter 666: Chapter 429: Interesting Mike
After confirming that the painting was authentic, Jose took a photo, registered it, and then politely asked Sean and his companions to leave after Sean paid the deposit.
Before leaving, Jose gave Sean an invitation, saying:
"Mr. Knight, this invitation is required for entry when the auction starts. You can bring one person with you, and Mr. Robert’s company is no longer required."
Sean took the invitation and left with Robert.
In the car, Sean put away the invitation and asked Robert:
"Will you go?"
"No. What would I do there?" Robert shook his head, "First, I’m not interested in those things, and second...", he turned to look at Sean and said:
"I don’t have money."
Sean nodded, expressing understanding.
Then he couldn’t help but laugh.
Robert also laughed.
The auction was held in the evening, and according to Jose’s earlier introduction, there would be a cocktail party after the auction. The purpose of the cocktail party was to allow those participating in the auction to interact and get to know each other better.
According to Jose’s hint, Sean could bring a female companion to the auction. However, in the end, Sean took Douglas with him.
With the invitation, their entrance was indeed smooth and unobstructed.
Sean found that although he arrived half an hour early, thinking he was early, several people gathered in front of the building chatting.
Turns out there were earlier arrivals.
Sean didn’t know any of these people, and Jose wasn’t there, so he didn’t stop. Instead, he went in with Douglas, each carrying a packing box.
"Who is that guy?"
A man of Chinese heritage saw Sean and asked a wealthy man next to him.
"Who?" The man turned his head to look at the entrance, only seeing the backs of Sean and Douglas.
He turned back and said:
"I don’t know. Maybe he’s delivering something?"
The Chinese man felt like he had seen Sean before, but they seemed never to have met.
Perhaps having seen many Chinese people before, seeing few here made him think they were familiar?
He shook his head and continued chatting with the other man:
"It’s an honor to be invited to this auction. I believe not only will I be able to bid on items, but I will also make many friends in upper-class society."
This Chinese man had once been influential in domestic circles. However, after retiring from the front line and enjoying the high treatment, he came to New York due to fear of the consequences of his past actions.
"Don’t worry, in this circle, you can make friends in various fields." The other man also smiled and said, "Later, as long as you bid on a few items, I think it will be much easier for me to introduce you to other people!"
Both cunning, there was no need to spell it out, they naturally understood each other.
The Chinese man knew that money had to be spent while staying on others’ turf. How could one gain without sacrificing?
As soon as Sean and Douglas entered the building with their packing boxes, Jose hurried over. He instructed two staff members behind him to take the boxes, then said:
"Mr. Knight, I’m sorry, I had a lot to do today, so I couldn’t greet you at the entrance. Would you like to go to the VIP lounge to wait for the auction half an hour later, or would you like me to introduce you to the guests who came today?"
"I’ll go to the VIP lounge to rest." Sean wasn’t interested in getting to know the people in that circle. They weren’t in the same circle, and he thought there wouldn’t be many future opportunities for interaction.
"Alright, Mr. Mike will come to see you later." Jose led Sean to the VIP lounge next to the auction house.
With the auction house door open, Sean found that it was actually similar to a stage hall. There was a place for the host to stand in the back of the stage, and beside it were two tables covered with red tablecloths.
In the middle of the hall were three rows of large, leather sofas, each with a small tea table beside it, already set with fruit and drinks.
José led Sean into the VIP lounge next to the auction house. The room was small but had computers for Internet access, a television for viewing, and fruit snacks.
A tall, beautiful blonde Bunny Girl stood at the entrance of the VIP lounge, and Jose said to Sean:
"Mr. Sean Knight, if you need anything, please tell her directly."
The Bunny Girl looked at Sean curiously.
Most of the people attending the auction were in their thirties or forties or even older. It was rare to see someone as young as Sean.
Sean entered the room, nodded to the Bunny Girl, and then sat on the sofa and started using his mobile phone.
Douglas stood behind Sean, watching vigilantly. In a strange environment with only him to protect Sean, the pressure was not small.
About ten minutes later, Jose led Donald Mackenzie to the VIP lounge.
"Mr. Sean Knight, nice to meet you!" Donald smiled and extended his hand to Sean, "I didn’t expect you to be so young and already have such a big name in the treasure hunting world! Truly impressive!"
Donald’s eyes were filled with curiosity, as people like Sean were truly rare.
There were many famous treasure hunters in the world, many of which came from family heritages. However, most of these treasure hunters spent years, even decades tirelessly searching for a legendary treasure.
Once found, the entire family would immediately soar to wealth and become a newly wealthy family.
However, such families were still a minority. For the luckier treasure hunters, finding a treasure worth several hundred thousand or even a million dollars in their lifetime was considered a stroke of luck!
