Chapter 622: Chapter 407: These Scaredy-Cats Must Be Eliminated!

"Head over and rescue that person!" After confirming that it was a person, Sean Knight immediately gave orders to Elijah Hastings, who was sailing the yacht. "Don’t let him sink!"

Elijah also saw that silhouette, but his eyesight wasn’t as good as Sean’s, and he didn’t realize it was a person.

When he heard it was a person, he immediately sped towards the area.

The cargo ship sailed away from this sea territory. Sean seemed to glimpse someone peeking out from the deck of the cargo ship to look at the sea surface before retracting quickly.

The yacht was about four to five hundred meters away from the cargo ship, so the cargo ship didn’t think the yacht was pursuing it.

After all, this area was close to the port, where there was considerable traffic. It was not uncommon for ships to share a route.

By the time the yacht reached the sea territory, the cargo ship had already sailed far away, and the waves it created had begun to calm.

However, the person was nowhere to be found.

Without any hesitation, Sean jumped directly into the water.

The water in that area was tens of meters deep, and turbid, but Sean had Sky Eye, so he started inspecting the area immediately as soon as he dived.

He then found a person slowly sinking, but this person’s hands were tied behind his back. He occasionally struggled, and bubbles came out of his mouth.

However, he was unable to stop himself from sinking.

Sean discovered this person thanks to these bubbles.

He quickly swam towards him and started pulling the collar of the drowning person upwards.

Contrary to what textbooks described about drowning people instinctively clinging to their rescuers, this person seemed to have lost consciousness.

Finally, they broke the surface. With Elijah’s help, they got the person up on the deck of the boat. It was only then that Sean realized that they had rescued a girl.

"Why didn’t you save her?" Sean asked Elijah, who appeared to be frozen, before moving closer to prepare for resuscitation.

"She’s a girl..." Elijah answered, somewhat embarrassed.

"We can’t be concerned about whether she’s a man or woman at this time, saving her life is what matters!" Sean then started trying to resuscitate her.

After a long while, Sean even transferred some energy into her body, enabling the girl’s heartbeat and breathing to resume.

She, however, remained unconscious throughout this.

Sean was slightly flustered.

Judging by the situation, she had to be rushed to the hospital. He didn’t have the ability to provide any further help.

But if he took her back, would he still be able to chase the cargo ship?

When it came down to it, human life was of utmost importance, so he decided to return to port.

The yacht turned around and headed back to the port. Sean and Elijah immediately brought the girl to the hospital.

By the time the girl woke up and was moved to a ward, half a day had passed.

Sean and Elijah stood in the ward, looking at the girl wearing a patient’s uniform.

Sean finally took a good look at her.

She appeared to be around twenty years old, with a pretty face. Her eyes displayed a mixture of fear, curiosity, and confusion.

"Did you two save me?" The girl seemed to have pieced together the sequence of events and said sincerely:

"Thank you!"

"What’s your name? Why did you jump off that cargo ship? Did the people on the ship abduct you or deceive you?"

"My name is Lucy Thompson..." The girl said her name, then without waiting for Sean and Elijah to prompt her further, she recounted her story.

"I just graduated from university and was looking for a job. I sent out my resume to several organizations, then this freight company called me in for an interview saying I made the shortlist."

Lucy Thompson’s voice was clear, and it was evident that she was a determined girl.

"During the interview, they asked very casual questions, like whether I could speak English and if I could accept working on a ship... when I saw their salary standards and found out that the allowance for working on the ship was high, I agreed. Then they told me I was hired."

A flicker of regret passed over Lucy Thompson’s face:

"I was motivated by the fact that most of my classmates had found satisfactory job offers, and I was starting to feel impatient. On top of that, they offered great benefits and I’m not afraid of hard work, so I thought I could earn more money... then I boarded the ship."

"Only after I boarded did I realize I had been tricked. Not only did I have to undertake the most basic tasks, but there were no work hour restrictions, and I had to withstand numerous harassment..."

Sean and Elijah exchanged glances. People nowadays are too easy to deceive.

"Actually, I did have suspicions," Lucy Thompson wasn’t foolish. Seeing the looks on Sean and Elijah’s faces, she guessed what they were thinking and defended herself:

"But I had seen numerous posts on Red Book and short videos showcasing such an ocean life. High wages, good benefits, stable work, albeit tougher... but I’m not afraid of tough work..."

"Ha," Sean shook his head, "didn’t you ever question why such a good deal would fall into your lap? Never mind, it’s pointless to discuss this now. Tell me, how many other people on the ship were deceived like you?"

"Quite a lot, at least a hundred or so," Lucy Thompson responded:

"About one-third of them were girls... Initially, they were relatively restrained, but this was the last port in the country. As soon as we left the port, they started to act without restraint, even beginning to harass the girls..."

"Didn’t anyone resist?" Elijah couldn’t help but ask, "There are more than a hundred of you, how many were there on the ship?"

"As soon as we boarded the ship, we were confined. Besides working, we couldn’t leave our quarters or go on the deck. We were hardly fed, and our mobile phones were confiscated..."

Lucy Thompson displayed a wronged expression.

She had realized something was amiss as soon as she boarded the ship, but by then it was too late.

She managed to escape because after the cargo ship left the port, the people there felt overwhelmingly confident and let their guard down.
