Chapter 263: Chapter 226: A Guest Appearance as a Researcher
After returning from the freight yard, Sean Knight told Kathy Lewis:
"I’m planning to go to Mongolia. Can you help me find an expedition team that is already formed but hasn’t set off yet? Preferably an outdoor one. I remember Mongolia is famous for its fossils, so are there any research teams going there? Help me find one."
Kathy didn’t know why Sean suddenly had this idea, but she still diligently investigated.
However, three days later, Kathy reported:
"I didn’t find anything suitable. There are indeed teams in Mongolia that are doing fossil excavation research, but they’ve already set off. There aren’t any currently being formed, or at least I didn’t find any."
Sean thought for a moment and said:
"In that case, let’s do this. Post a notice saying someone plans to form a Mongolia research team and is recruiting professional personnel to participate.
You’ll be in charge of interviewing. Ideally, two men and two women, that way it’s easy to arrange. Oh, they should be physically fit, not the delicate kind who faint before doing any work."
After giving specific requirements, Sean stopped bothering about it.
This was his plan: apply for entry under the guise of a research team, and he would act as the sponsoring businessman accompanying the team.
Maybe Sean was giving himself too much of a role, but he knew this trip was one where he had to assemble a team to go.
He didn’t have Hans’ influence in the jungle countries, and if he wanted to find something, he couldn’t rely solely on spatial transportation to get it out.
Or at least, he had to have a legitimate reason to find those things. Otherwise, he might go there directly, only to be robbed or intercepted.
It’s better to make thorough preparations, even if it’s a bit troublesome, than to be halfway there and get sent back.
While Kathy hadn’t finalized things yet, Elijah Hastings and the others sent over a list of supplies.
There were mostly replenishments, including compressed food, self-heating food, water, medicine, clothing, tents, and so on.
There were also weapons, explosives, detectors, digging equipment, tools, etc.
Looking at these things, Sean wondered if Elijah and the others were planning to move an entire outdoor gear store back with them?
But after a careful look, he realized that they really did need all these things.
Just in case.
So, Sean provided 500,000 dollars for Elijah and the others to purchase the items.
As for the weapons, he could only ask for Robert’s help.
Several hundred thousand dollars were gone again. The weapons were cheap, but the accompanying equipment was not!
With things ready, Sean simply assigned Elijah the task:
"Sort out what can be transported from the airport and what can’t, and pack them separately."
Elijah and the others dutifully carried out their orders.
Having people do the work felt great!
This time, Kathy moved quickly. Two days later, she brought two men and two women to the villa.
"This is Professor Grant Kenneth, a renowned dinosaur research expert. Some of the dinosaur images in the later parts of the movie Jurassic Park were based on his suggestions."
Kathy introduced a heavyweight first.
Grant, around fifty years old, had a big beard and was very enthusiastic towards Sean:
"Mr. Knight, I’m truly grateful that you could sponsor this mission! I’ve wanted to conduct dinosaur research in Mongolia for a long time, but due to harsh conditions and insufficient funding, it hasn’t been possible until now... "
Sean smiled and said:
"I really appreciate experts like you, Professor Grant. I hope we can achieve something on this trip."
Among the remaining people, a man and a woman were Grant’s students, both in their twenties.
The man was Webb Crete, a somewhat handsome white person with a medium build and a shy expression.
The woman’s name was Jenny Field, more striking was her platinum blonde hair, 1.7 meters tall, 60 kilograms, considered quite sturdy, above average in looks, with a few freckles, curiously looking at Sean.
There was also a girl around 22 or 23 years old, also quite sturdy, of the Yellow Race. Kathy introduced:
"Carly is a Mongolian, her Mongolian name is Willow Taylor. She is studying geology at New York University, and this trip serves as her internship and a part-time job."
Sean couldn’t help but praise Kathy. He hadn’t thought of finding a translator for the team himself. Although they would spend most of their time in the wild, it was inevitable that they would have to deal with locals.
Finding a temporary translator might not be reliable, but now having one in the team was more reliable— at least more reliable than finding one on the spot.
"From now on, we’re all on the same team." Sean opened his arms in welcome. "Next, Professor Grant, I need you to list the required equipment and then we’ll discuss the itinerary."
Professor Grant said:
"I’ve conducted dinosaur excavations in other places before, and some equipment can be rented from our research institute. Also, a large part of the field excavation work requires hiring locals."
Sean understood.
They then discussed the trip.
"My plan is to fly to the capital of Mongolia first, then register our survey and excavation work." Sean said to Grant, "This needs you to handle, Professor."
"No problem." He had experience in these matters, "I can use the name of our research institute, which makes it easier to get through."
Sean was even more delighted, as having an official record made some operations easier.
As for the route, Sean had already determined it: from the capital to a small city, then into the mountains.
Grant had no major objections to the route.
As for compensation, Sean was funding this "research" activity, not only for equipment and travel expenses but also for their wages.
This was the big deal!
Adding everything up, Sean calculated that renting a plane to fly over would cost more than 1 million dollars in total!
This was not a small sum!
A large chunk of the money earned from Oyama Itusmoku was spent all at once!
Thankfully, Sean believed that if he found those treasures, these investments would be considered small.
By the time Grant sent the research institute’s application to Mongolia and it was approved, half a month had passed.
The supplies Sean needed to prepare were ready. Elijah had packed everything that needed to be packed.
Those inconvenient items or ones that were not allowed to be carried were already placed in the spatial realm.
These days, Sean spent all his time with Joanna Davis.
Joanna knew Sean was going on another treasure hunt and didn’t want him to leave.
She even proposed to accompany him.
But Sean told her that Mongolia was a dangerous place, and Joanna, being sensible, didn’t press the issue.
She only hoped that Sean would stay safe, keep in touch, and so on.
Sean, of course, agreed to it all.
The day before departing, try as she might to disregard her body, Joanna made love to Sean time and time again.
Until she couldn’t move at all.
Sean felt as if his abilities had increased somehow?
The next day, Joanna couldn’t go to school. Sean kissed her goodbye, and the team boarded a rented plane, flying towards Mongolia.
