Chapter 1373: Chapter 671: Love Catching Turtles in a Jar the Most!
Because of Sean Knight’s orders, the team members were active and didn’t leave.
With money to be made, the team members had no complaints. On the contrary, they were very interested in the Russian wilderness. With nothing else to do, they formed groups and headed into the forest with their gear.
Outdoor activities were their forte, and it wasn’t long before they each returned with their bounty.
In the evening, they held a grand barbecue feast in a clearing in the forest.
After nightfall, the team members cleared a space nearby and set up tents to rest.
By midnight, some dark figures started to emerge around the campground.
These people quietly surrounded the area, coordinating with each other, and slowly approached the tents in the campground.
"Bang bang bang!"
"Pop pop pop!"
"Ouch!"
"Ahh—!"
Muffled sounds arose, followed by cries of agony!
One by one, the dark figures were hit. Those who were unharmed immediately realized they had walked into an ambush!
They tried to retreat into the forest, but then a series of gunshots rang out and sent them straight to their maker!
Then the campground lit up brightly as powerful searchlights shined directly on these dark figures!
At their feet were camouflaged pits dug out and various traps intended for capturing wild boars and beasts!
Who could have imagined that the campground, which seemed so unguarded during the daytime, would have so many mechanisms at night!
Elijah Hastings led his men over, gave each of the dark figures a finishing shot, and then removed their masks.
"Damn it, I’ve seen these guys during the day!" Elijah cursed, "Those Diggers! They must be green with envy!"
Sean Knight came out of the tent and asked with some surprise,
"Aren’t they Andrew Petrov’s men?"
"No. I remember these guys; they were hanging around watching the commotion when we were trading with Andrew."
"With so many people, they must not be from the same team," Sean counted, realizing there were more than twenty people, all armed. Though the weapons were outdated, mostly from the AK series, they were still powerful. No wonder they dared to launch a sneak attack.
"They were gambling that if they took us down, they could live off this deal for a lifetime," Elijah said with a cold laugh, "They probably didn’t expect us to be prepared."
As he spoke, he raised his gun and with a "bang," he shot a guy who was playing dead, hoping to launch a surprise attack.
"Bury them," Sean said, "We acted in self-defense. I reckon no one would dare to come to claim the bodies."
The team members gathered the bodies together, dug a large hole, buried them, and restored the traps and spike-covered pits to their original state, then turned off the lights, and the campground returned to quiet.
At daybreak, indeed no one came looking for trouble.
"Let half the men go to the Small Town to relax, and then have the others rotate," Sean told Elijah, "Remember to find a good translator; ask Sergei for a recommendation."
"Aren’t we leaving?" Douglas Cooper asked with some confusion, "Boss, do we still have things to do here?"
"Of course," Sean said with a smile, "According to my observations and analysis, this Battlefield is very large. There’s likely more than just that one warehouse, so after resting for two days, we’ll continue our excavation."
After learning about this, the other team members went to relax in rotation without worry.
Sean didn’t go to the Small Town; he stayed at the campground, casually wandering through the forest, with Viola following him closely.
"You really didn’t need to come," Sean said, "There’s no need for a translator here."
"Although I don’t understand why you sold that warehouse to Andrew, my job now is to be your translator. I’m not sure if you’ll encounter locals, but if you do, my translation could make things safer for both sides."
Viola said this sternly and then fell silent.
Sean didn’t insist on sending her away anymore. The girl wasn’t the fragile type. In the jungle, without proper roads and with plentiful shrubbery, her pace was no slower than Sean’s.
Sean arrived at a Small River and spotted silhouettes of Fish in the water, regretting not having brought nets.
However, he wasn’t truly determined to catch fish; he just felt that the resources here were too good. The river contained big crucian carp weighing over One Kilogram each, and they were plentiful.
Picking some Mushrooms nonchalantly, Sean made a large round trip and walked back to the Campground.
In the end, he had adapted to modern life, where even a foray into the wilderness was simply about relaxation, not about becoming one with it.
Having surveyed the area, it was still within the Battlefield perimeter, although no longer in the central area. Occasionally, there were some buried items beneath the Soil, but they weren’t of high value, so Sean didn’t pay much attention.
Sean had already pinpointed another Soviet Army warehouse during his earlier extensive search. That location, however, was even more complicated and digging there would be more problematic.
So Sean planned to let his team members rest for a while. It was also an opportunity to clear out any trouble before proceeding with the next move.
When he got back to the vicinity of the Campground, more of the team members appeared. Seeing some with fishing nets, Sean pointed towards the spot he had just passed and said,
"There’s a river over there, full of fish."
"Alright!" The team members happily headed in that direction.
Viola remained silent as ever. Sean treated her as if she wasn’t there, as long as she didn’t affect his actions.
He kept her close because she was easy on the eyes. After all, Viola was truly beautiful. Sean was no saint; with a beautiful girl following him, he naturally wanted to enjoy the sight. It was certainly better than being followed by a bunch of men.
