Chapter 1190: 609
There must be something good in an undiscovered relic.
Just think of Tutankhamun’s tomb!
So, those few divers followed James and jumped in.
Cheryl Suweton was still excluded from the divers.
She was very dissatisfied and watched from afar as Sean Knight had already boarded the boat, holding back the urge to go over and find him.
She had to stand guard here. Cheryl Suweton had her own professional ethics!
While she was at a loss, the lake started to change slowly.
Waves began to ripple across the lake surface, much larger than the previous ones.
Cheryl Suweton’s eyesight was very good, and she immediately connected this with what Sean Knight had mentioned about the huge creature underwater. She uttered a curse under her breath, hurried to the water’s edge, and pulled the signal rope.
Each diver had a signal rope, which was used both for simple signaling to one another and for rescue in emergencies.
Cheryl wasn’t daring enough to pull directly, so she fervently shook it instead.
Seeing her actions, the other staff members were hesitant at first, but then Cheryl started shaking the rope while shouting loudly towards the lake surface,
"Something’s there! There’s a big thing underwater! Quickly tell them!"
The others weren’t foolish either, recognizing that whatever was causing those waves was no small matter, especially recalling what Cheryl had said. They ran over and joined in shaking the diver’s ropes urgently.
One diver happened to be returning for something and was the first to surface, reluctantly pulling off his oxygen mask and shouting,
"What’s up? Why shake the rope?"
"There... there’s something!" The people onshore cried out anxiously.
The man turned his head to look at the lake and his face changed then and there!
He swam back desperately. The person shaking his rope also pulled hard, quickly hauling him back in.
"Quick... quick! Pull the others up too!" Cheryl had now calmed down, rapidly pulling on the ropes.
She’d rather this be a false alarm than have someone underwater get hurt.
After all, if that thing turned out to be peaceful, a scare would still mean everyone was safe.
But if it really was a man-eating creature, the trouble would be huge!
Underwater, James had initially felt annoyed when the rope started shaking.
He was right underneath the giant stone city wall, excavating, feeling that there might be something beneath.
But as the rope shook, he knew for sure that it was time to ascend. The other divers had already started heading up too; it seemed that everyone was alerted.
James was the last to surface above the giant stone city wall; the others had already sensed something wrong and were rushing towards the shore.
James too felt a sense of unease. He looked up into the depths of the lake, and a huge black shadow was swimming towards them!
James nearly peed himself in fear!
The creature was seven to eight meters long, a gaping mouth large enough to swallow two or three people at once!
A shark!
At this moment, James regretted not listening to Cheryl. He quickly swam towards the shore.
But he was no match for the speed of a shark—soon enough, the dark shadow was looming over him!
James’s hand reached towards his waist—there was a small fish gun!
Although he hadn’t planned on heeding Cheryl’s advice, he had still prepared himself by carrying a small weapon for self-defence.
He looked up, just as the big guy seemed to think the water ahead was too shallow and was making a turn, preparing to dive deeper.
And he was directly in James’s line of sight!
James, on instinct, fired the fishing gun!
The big guy was just curious about what this dark thing was, and then felt a sudden pain!
The big fella wasn’t hungry, nor did he plan to eat James, but when his opponent attacked first, he naturally became angry!
With a fierce flick of its tail, the big guy sent James crashing to the bottom of the lake!
Underwater, James’s reflexes were nowhere near one-tenth as fast as the big guy’s.
Fortunately, James was tied with a rope, which saved him from being smashed against the giant stone city wall!
The people on shore had already realized something was wrong; aside from James, everyone else had surfaced.
Someone immediately began to pull harder on James’s rope.
"Hurry up, I feel he’s sinking!" someone shouted.
More people rushed to help, and just before James was hit by the Huge Stone, he was pulled toward the shore!
The big guy was somewhat dissatisfied, seeing its prey attempting to escape!
It swam rapidly, its big tail thrashing as it charged over, mouth wide open, wanting to swallow James whole!
The people on shore also knew it was a critical moment, and several joined in pulling James in!
"He’s surfaced, he’s surfaced!" someone yelled. Indeed, James’s head broke the surface, moving at great speed, dragged to create a wake by the rescuers!
Then everyone got another scare, as a huge head, the size of a table, surfaced behind the wake, followed by a dorsal fin standing tall like a sail!
This creature was huge!
"Quick, save me!" James was unable to swim on his own, terrified to the point of collapse, he took off his oxygen mask and screamed loudly.
Seeing Cheryl Suweton also pulling with all her might, James for the first time felt a sense of shame—he had misunderstood her!
The shark was angry!
Seeing that the one who mocked it was about to escape, and there were even those on shore helping, did they think it was some joke that the shark couldn’t handle them?
Its tail moving swiftly, the shark suddenly accelerated, getting closer and closer to James!
Those pulling the rope had given their all, some even started throwing stones into the lake, hoping to startle the shark.
However, the shark was fixated on James, completely ignoring the attacks from others—after all, they were too far away to be more than a minor irritation.
James could feel the surge of the water behind him; his soul nearly left his body, the shore was getting closer, but the noise behind him was growing louder!
He knew he had to put in more effort or he might not make it to the shore, so he desperately paddled with his arms until his feet hit something solid, signaling land!
James’s mood suddenly improved—on land, that thing couldn’t possibly chase after him, right?
And then he started to laugh heartily!
A laughter born from surviving a close call!
The others’ hands relaxed as well.
The shark behind them had already planned to give up—after all, he was already at the shore.
However, seeing James suddenly turn around, arrogantly laughing at it, the shark became furious!
With a fierce surge, it shot onto the shore, opened its huge mouth, and took a massive bite at James’s wide grin!
