Chapter 1023: Chapter 554 There are people in the court who get things done
Originally, after Aria’s broken engagement, she was not welcomed by her father. After all, to her conservative father, this princess who had been rejected in marriage had lost face for the Royal Family.
Despite the fact that Aria’s fiancé, considering the unique gemstone, had taken some of the blame for the broken engagement upon himself, in this patriarchal nation, Aria being jilted was a sin in itself.
So she was directly confined, with her treatment being reduced again and again.
Fortunately, Aria had come to terms with it, realizing that she didn’t need to marry into that dreadful family and potentially die without understanding why. Even if she was locked up, how long could they really keep her confined?
Soon after, fortune smiled upon her when Aria’s father suddenly suffered a stroke, leading to hemiplegia, rendering him incapable of dealing with state affairs.
The handling of state affairs naturally fell upon her brother, Crown Prince Abdullah.
Aria’s brother was very good to her.
Although they were not born of the same mother, Aria’s mother had been very kind to Abdullah when he was young, and Abdullah himself was very kind and enlightened.
When Aria was about to be given away in marriage, Abdullah was studying abroad. If that weren’t the case, Aria’s life wouldn’t have been filled with so many twists and turns.
So, when Abdullah began dealing with the affairs of the kingdom, he released Aria at the first opportunity.
Abdullah studied economics, so after taking office, he initiated reforms in some of the country’s policies. Though not completely against tradition, he did a lot of work to alleviate the constraints on women.
Sean thought to himself that he hadn’t noticed this—at least not until now. However, the fact that Aria could now openly appear at cocktail parties was indeed progress.
"My brother also involved me in handling some specific business affairs," Aria said. "He believes that as a member of the Royal Family, it’s not enough just to make appearances in the media. One must understand all aspects of the kingdom; otherwise, even if you start a family, you can easily lose face."
Watching Aria talk proudly, Sean sensed that the girl had indeed changed, at least becoming much more confident.
It seemed that her father’s stroke had, paradoxically, been a good thing for this girl.
"Anyway, let’s talk about you," Aria said, taking a sip of water that Amina had handed her, then continued, "I never expected you to come here—in fact, I should be most thankful to you. It was your help that kept me from being married off..."
"No, no, no, that was all your own doing," Sean waved his hand and said, "I didn’t expect this to be your country. I came here to make a deal, honestly, to trade an oil field, and now I need to complete the procedures as soon as possible."
"Really?" Aria asked with wide eyes, "Is it just about the oil field?"
"Yes," Sean, although noticing the hope in Aria’s eyes, still could not lie and managed to say:
"I’m actually here to find Ibrahim. I bribed him, hoping to expedite the procedures. However, after taking the money, he didn’t follow through with the work.
Today, I was supposed to check on the situation with him, but when I saw you, I came over. Seeing that you’re doing well, I’m happy..."
Although Aria maintained her smile, Sean could feel a hint of disappointment in it.
Unfortunately, he was not the knight who slays the dragon to save the princess; some things just were not meant for him to handle.
"Mr. Knight, are you saying you’re about to have an oil field here in our country?" Amina suddenly interjected, "Where is it located? Are you sure you want to expedite the procedures?"
After Amina spoke, she gave Aria a meaningful look.
Aria’s eyes lit up as she looked at Sean.
"Yes, that’s right," Sean nodded.
"That’s great. I am involved in matters concerning the contracting and mining of our country’s oil fields. I can resolve this issue. How about this, tomorrow I will come to see you, and we’ll take care of it together, how does that sound?"
"I’d really appreciate that," Sean thought this was exactly the opportunity he had been hoping for.
"Where are you staying? If you don’t have a place, can I take you to the Royal VIP Host Hotel?" Aria suddenly became proactive.
"No need, we have a place to stay," Sean reported his hotel to Aria, "I’ll wait for your call tomorrow."
Sean got out of the car and returned to Lincoln’s location, watching Aria’s departure.
As Sky Eye activated, he could see Aria’s car slowly driving away, but Aria herself kept gazing his way through the car window.
Meanwhile, Amina was advising her on something.
"Boss, does it mean that the deal is done?" Lincoln naturally recognized Aria. Having seen Ibrahim treat Aria with great respect, the matter should be easy to settle, right?
"Let’s hope so," Sean replied, "I don’t want to resort to anything drastic unless absolutely necessary. After all, we still need to mine oil here. But..."
He didn’t continue, hoping things would go smoothly as Aria had said.
The two returned to the Hotel to rest.
The second day, after breakfast, Sean waited in the Hotel for Aria’s message.
However, to his surprise, he didn’t receive a message from Aria but got a phone call from Ibrahim’s Assistant.
