Chapter 244. Freshman Graduation Day

Chapter 244: Chapter 244. Freshman Graduation Day

Amon pondered about the offer. He was wondering if Mu Sou was conning him. He doubted Mu Sou’s motivation was purely for academic purposes as he claimed. However, even if he rejected the offer, he didn’t have a specialist who could make full use of this corpse. His option was to keep it for later when he found such specialists.

After some thought, he decided to capitalize on the profit now rather than leave it for later. He took up Mu Sou’s offer.

"Wise decision," Mu Sou said.

"If I’m not satisfied with this protective suit you promised me, I will make you pay," Amon threatened.

"If there is one thing I’m proud of, it is that I never disappoint a customer," Mu Sou returned. "So, which one do you prefer? A half-body armor for two? Or a full-body armor for one?"

"One," Amon answered. He then asked, "But can you make it fit perfectly to my size?"

"My young friend, what is your age? Isn’t this the time when you experience your growth spurt? If I measure your size now, by the time the suit is finished, you might find it too tight."

"Can you make the suit to be self-adjusting?" Amon asked.

"Self-adjusting? That is a pretty fancy enchantment," Mu Sou answered. "As far as I know, the word of power producing that kind of effect can only be applied by an expert-level engraver. This time, unfortunately, I know no engraver of that level."

Regarding words of power, even when one knew what the word of power looked like, it didn’t mean one could apply it. The more sophisticated a word of power was, the rarer the material needed to inscribe the word and the higher the level of the required engraver.

Amon didn’t realize the self-adjusting chainmail from Hei Gong was that special, even though it was only a mid-tier engraved armor.

He took out the self-adjusting chainmail. "What if I have an armor with the enchantment? Can you recycle its word of power for my new suit?"

"Oh? You have one?" Mu Sou took the chainmail from Amon and tested it on his body.

"Fascinating!" He remarked when the chainmail adjusted its size to fit him.

"Ahem!"

Mu Sou chuckled at Amon’s interruption. "Forgive me. You brought me many interesting things today. I can’t help myself. Regarding your suggestion, I did hear some expert-level smiths could combine or use an existing product to apply its original enchantment to a new product. I can’t say if the smith I know has that expertise. I can ask. Do you want to keep this chainmail until I make sure?"

"You hold on to it," Amon said. "If your smith can do what you said, ask him to use that chainmail to make my suit."

"Very well," Mu Sou said. He was still wearing the chainmail. He didn’t show any sign of taking it off.

Amon didn’t bother to ask him about that. He wore his mask and left the place.

In the next few days, Amon convened with the members of his faction and the demon gang. He discussed pressing issues with them and gave them instructions before leaving to do another mission.

He continued doing missions without slacking. He collected academic points greedily. Interestingly, despite Amon’s fervor effort, Sima Fang was closing in. By the end of the year, the difference between their academic points was only 2,000 points with Amon in the lead.

It was the graduation day. Every freshman student had been notified to gather at the main plaza of the freshman residential section. The tutors would announce the result of their study there. Whether they passed or were told to go home would be announced on this day.

Some students arrived way early in the morning. When it was only one hour before the appointed time, the plaza was almost full of students.

"Hey, do you see the boss?" Xin Wuming asked Ah Bin, who was standing next to him.

"I don’t know," Ah Bin shook his head.

"No way he is absent from this, isn’t he?" Shi Hei asked.

"I saw him leave the academy an hour ago," Wu Lang said.

"Are you sure?!" Xin Wuming asked.

"Yes. When I asked where he was going, he said he was going to the Rustic River Restaurant," Wu Lang answered.

"What is he doing there?"

"Perhaps he has not yet had breakfast?"

"He can just eat one at the canteen here, idiot!"

Xin Wuming ignored the chatters. He said, "I’m going there to look for him."

"In that case, I’ll follow," Wu Lang said.

"No need," Xin Wuming replied. "The Rustic River Restaurant isn’t far. It should only take me twenty minutes to arrive. I’ll return if he is not there."

On the second floor of Rustic River Restaurant, Amon was sitting alone at a corner table drinking tea. He didn’t seem to be in a rush.

Even though it was still early in the morning, the restaurant was rather full. This was because this place was rather popular for people to take a grub before starting their days.

Despite the crowded place, one large table was empty. There was a line of customers waiting to get their seats down there, but the waiters didn’t bring those people to that table. Instead, a waiter came to Amon’s table. Amon had finished his meal some time ago and currently only drank tea by himself while occupying a table that could fit four people.

With an apologetic face, the waiter said, "Honored guest. My apologies. Do you need anything else? You see, many other customers wish to be seated. If you still wish to stay, do you mind sharing your table with three other customers?"

"There is one big table over there. It can fit ten people," Amon pointed at the empty table.

The waiter gave a wry smile. "Sorry, sir. That table is reserved. The customers should arrive any minute now."

"I see. In that case, I will wait a while longer." Amon put some aer stones on the table. He said, "For your trouble."

The aer stones were the amount they earned for standard breakfasts for around ten customers. The waiter quickly accepted the offer and left Amon alone.

A few minutes later, several people came up the stairs. They all wore fancy clothes. Those familiar with the influential people of this city would recognize this group was from two prominent clans of Qishurg City. They were the members of the Yan and Xie clans. A waiter brought this group to the big table that had been empty for a while. Cups filled with tea had been prepared for them.

After they were all seated, two people from the two clans started conversing.

"Brother Xie Lang, let me show you our clan’s appreciation for accepting this invitation by treating you to this drink," the representative from the Yan Clan brought his cup up.

"Brother Yan Won, you are too kind," Xie Lang returned by lifting his cup. "We have been friends for some time. I am always happy to accept your invitation."

Yan Won was happy to hear that. He said, "Brother Xie Lang, how is that discussion with your clan head? My brother is expecting good news."

Yan Won’s brother was the clan head of the Yan Clan, Yan Wang, who was also Yan Dose’s father.

Xie Lang sighed. "My uncle is still undecided. He has a long history with the clan heads from the An and Yong clans. It is difficult to make him change allegiance."

When Xie Lang saw the disappointed expression on Yan Won’s face, he hurriedly said, "No need to worry, Brother Yan Won. Other than the clan head, everyone in the clan agrees with me that the An and Yong clans never truly give us any face. We are just humiliating ourselves by staying as their ally. Give me a bit more time. I’m confident I can sway his view."

"Unfortunately... Time is not on our side," Yan Won said. "You need to speed things up, Brother Xie Lang. My brother doesn’t wish to bring outside influence into our city. If we have the support of the Xie clan, we might not need to, but time is running out. I hope my investment in you all this time is not wasted."

"Give me one more year, Brother Yan Won. I’m sure my uncle will start seeing sense before long."

Yan Won sipped his tea. He said, "Six months then, brother Xie Lang. That is how long I can persuade my brother to refrain from involving outsiders. After that, I... I..."

Yan Won suddenly stammered. Everyone looked at him with confused expressions. He was holding his throat. They thought he probably choked due to talking immediately after drinking his tea, but then he suddenly spurted blood. His blood, which was black as tar, spattered across the table.

Everyone at the table jumped to their feet at the sight. Yan Won displayed a face filled with agony as black blood leaked from his eyes, nose, and ears. In a matter of seconds, he fell face down onto the table, not getting up anymore.

Everyone was frozen as they stared at the scene. They didn’t know what to do. While everyone was still, one person walked down the stairs. That person was Amon. Unseen by anyone, a small and thin needle flew toward Amon and slipped into his coat.
