Chapter 81: Chapter 63 Spirituality Fulfilled_2
Having to also guard against bullets and Mind Magic, a Knight quickly showed a flaw and was struck on the right shoulder by Sigrdrifa’s Mountain Crashing Strike, shattering the entire shoulder Armor.
Seizing the opportunity, Eleanor thrust her Dragon Spear, piercing through the revealed shoulder blade behind his broken Armor, and forcefully flung him onto another Knight.
This Knight, with his Armor, weighed over 100 kilograms, immediately toppling over his comrade.
Sigrdrifa stepped forward to finish them off, one axe per person, beheading the two Knights who had lost the Ability to resist.
Peggy, used as bait, had also rushed back. As the Knights died, Extraordinary Power surged from their bodies and slowly entered everyone’s.
"I feel so bloated," Nora moaned uncomfortably. The Spirituality that was almost bursting out made her feel the painful sensation of being stuffed, "Aske, I feel unwell."
"That’s because you’ve absorbed too much Extraordinary Power, exceeding the limit of your Spirituality’s capacity," Aske explained, "At times like these, you need to transform them into Physical Power or Spiritual Power through real exercise, applying it to your own attribute enhancement."
"How should we train?" Sigrdrifa, carrying her Battle Axe on her shoulder, asked, "Go kill a few more Knights?"
The girls all collapsed in disbelief. Since leaving the subway station, they had killed a total of several Frank Knights, which meant each person had absorbed at least the equivalent of a level 4 Physical Power and then some.
For the girls who were still at levels lv1 and lv2, their Spirituality was already fully saturated. To go kill more Knights... they would definitely burst from the Extraordinary Power!
"Are we supposed to train here?" Eleanor frowned, "If we can’t fight in practice, then we can only do Mechanical exercises."
"See that residential building over there?" Aske pointed to the apartment across the street, "At least twenty stories high, run up the stairs in full gear! Start speed training now!"
So, the girls could only rush towards the residential building in silence.
After all, training on the open streets was just too dangerous. If they encountered a few more Knights... Losing would mean Death, winning and absorbing power and then bursting would mean Death in either case, it was just not worth it.
They charged to the stairwell like a hungry pack. Eleanor and Sigrdrifa, clad in Heavy Armor, were soon panting like cows as they bolted upstairs two steps at a time.
Following them were Aske, Peggy, Mia, and Miel, the four wearing Light Armor, hence not as burdened as the first two girls.
Aske ran at the front with a Stable pace, his one-two rhythm extremely standard. Peggy and Miel followed behind him, climbing the steps in the same one-two pattern, synchronizing each footstep with Aske’s.
Mia dashed up one level swiftly, rested for a few seconds, and then continued to rush upwards, quickly following behind Sigrdrifa and Eleanor.
At the very back were Nora and Medea, the ones with the poorest physical condition. By the time they reached the third floor, they were already gasping, barely able to drag themselves up the steps while clutching at the handrails.
Although the Physical exhaustion was unbearable, the subsequent slow digestion of Extraordinary Power — the spiritual pleasure brought about by this release of Spirituality — was something they couldn’t put down.
On the tenth floor, Eleanor suddenly heard an extremely piercing scream from the corridor on the side.
Alertly holding her Shield Spear, she walked towards the corridor and saw a door ajar with blood flowing out from the threshold.
In the living room behind the door, the body of a Knight’s Squire lay on the floor, blood still profusely streaming out.
The bodies of the male homeowner and two children were lying on the adjacent floor, while the lady of the house, clutching a bloodstained fruit knife, was kneeling on the ground, her entire body trembling uncontrollably like a sieved chaff.
"What happened?" Eleanor’s voice rang out, startling the lady, who immediately shook and raised the fruit knife, screaming, "Don’t come closer!"
"Don’t panic, I mean no harm," Eleanor quickly retracted her Long Spear, spoke soothingly, "I am a mercenary from Constantinople, not one of the Frank Knights that invade your lands. I’m here to fight them."
"Mercenary, mercenary," the lady mumbled dazedly, tears falling down her cheeks, "Aren’t you police?"
"No," replied Eleanor.
"We..." The lady’s eyes were vacant as she spoke haltingly, "When we went down to take out the trash, we encountered this man wielding weapons. He chased us and stormed all the way into our home... If only I could have run faster, I might have managed to lock the door..."
Her lips quivered, almost on the verge of biting them till they bled with regret. Eleanor moved over to the man and children, crouched to check for a moment, then confirmed their death beyond doubt, shook her head with a heavy voice:
"Please accept my condolences. Shall I call the police?"
"No, please don’t call the police!" The woman hurriedly threw herself over, embracing Eleanor’s legs and pleaded, "You are a mercenary, right? I’ll give you money, all the belongings in my house! I only have one humble request..."
Her head lifted high, her eyes spreading with the gray chill of despair:
"Please kill me."
"What!" Eleanor staggered backward.
"As you can see, my husband and children are all dead," said the woman, her face pale as if overwhelmed by grief, chokingly, "Everything I had in this world has crumbled away today. Do you understand? I have nothing left..."
Her throat moved slightly, with a plea for release, she continued, "Rather than continuing to suffer in this mortal world, I’d rather follow the spirits of my husband and children now, to the Lord’s kingdom above the firmament."
"But the Lord does not allow believers to commit suicide, so I can only request you, even just to help me, a poor woman who has lost her entire family..."
"...Let me be free."
"I’m sorry," Eleanor shook her head with remorse and a look of incredulity and compassion, "I can’t bring myself to harm an unarmed woman."
"And don’t be rash! Although the dead are gone, aren’t there still relatives and friends who care about you in this world? What about your parents?"
"My parents passed away many years ago," said the woman, nearly in despair, crawling over trying to embrace her feet, "A happy family, that was all I had, and it has all been devoured by the Devil... I beg you, help me! Once the police arrive, I won’t have the chance to embrace death!"
"I’m sorry, I can’t. I’m sorry," Eleanor could only retreat, practically fleeing from the room in horror. Just as she crossed the hallway, she heard the sound of a window being forcefully opened behind her.
She quickly turned around, her gaze crossing the room door and the living room, just in time to see the woman open the window and, without a moment of hesitation, jump out.
