Chapter 463: Chapter 78: Unspoken Understanding

Salmatia, top floor.

The highest level had not various narrow corridors, crisscrossing pipelines, and production lines constantly buzzing, but was composed of clean tiled floors and spacious, bright rooms.

Obviously, if the lower floors were for the passage of synthetic humans, the top floor was for the dwelling and working of real human beings, replete with the uniquely human aesthetic appreciation and pursuit of a comfortable living environment.

The group walked through the elegantly decorated corridor. Eleanor cautiously probed the surroundings with "Will Fog," yet no enemies were detected.

Upon reaching the end of the corridor, Mason pushed the door and entered directly.

The door opened, with no traps.

The room inside appeared to be a meeting room and was still empty. In fact, from their fight from the outer layer to the bottom layer and then to the top layer, they had encountered only synthetic humans and never came across any human members of the Church Court.

A stack of documents was placed on the center table of the meeting room, with nothing else around, as if they were deliberately left there for the group to find.

War God Leopold stepped forward, picked up the papers, flipped through them, and laughed,

"As expected, our trip up here was worthwhile, this intelligence is valuable."

"Your Excellency, may I know what the intelligence is?" asked Aske casually.

"It’s nothing that needs to be kept secret," Leopold said solemnly, "Like Salmatia, the Church Court has another 32 of these mobile unmanned drone hives."

"Six of them, as well as reaching limited Italy, are ready to move north to encircle the Emperor’s Alliance, while another thirteen are hurrying from the vicinity of the Mediterranean."

"We must convey this intelligence to His Majesty as soon as possible, to prevent him from making rash strategic decisions without being informed."

"Of course," added Mason, "after we destroy this Salmatia."

"I see," Aske caught on immediately.

That is to say, as long as this intelligence is brought back to the Emperor’s Alliance camp, it would immediately raise the Duke’s estimate of the Church Court’s strength, and the argument for the Emperor to concede and retreat to his country would be justified.

Seeing how the two demigods reached such a "natural" conclusion, it was clear that there was an underlying understanding and consensus with the Church Court... in other words, at least the lords of the Duchy of Thuringia and the Carinthia Duchy no longer wished to continue supporting the Emperor in this war.

The group went downstairs along the original route, this time without encountering any enemies. To be honest, it was a very strange thing that the defense force inside a drone hive was so sparse, but everyone pretended not to notice it.

Upon reaching the entrance to the energy room, Mason’s expression suddenly changed as he placed his hand on the door.

"Radiation?" Leopold immediately asked upon noticing.

"Quite strong radiation," Mason answered, "Perhaps this place was designed from the outset to be solely accessed by synthetic humans."

Radiation could penetrate and kill the cells of living organisms, but for synthetic humans, as long as the surface was coated with protective paint, it didn’t matter. Thus, the nuclear fusion reactors in the energy room were designed to be maintained by synthetic humans, negating the need for many radiation protection devices.

"Then you handle it; we’ll go ahead," Leopold said, turning to the side and cleaving the wall with his sword.

"Alright," Mason replied.

Leopold led the others through the breach in the wall, outside of Salmatia.

Having reached the exterior, all was quiet, whether it were the synthetic humans stationed in the garden area or the swarms of drones hovering in the sky, they had all vanished without a trace.

Once again passing through the force field wall and leaving the range of the Anti-Demon Magnetic Field, they immediately felt a lightness in their spirituality, and everyone felt refreshed.

After walking several kilometers, they returned to the banks of the Po River. Suddenly, there was a nearly deafening, muffled boom from behind. The group turned around to see a small mushroom cloud rising slowly in the distance.

"That Wilderness Bear, Lord..." Eleanor hesitated to say.

"He’s fine," Leopold said nonchalantly.

As if to prove his words, within just a few minutes, Wilderness Bear Mason "teleported" in front of everyone.

Body first, then came the rolling sound of the sonic boom.

"Done," the demigod said, unharmed and in high spirits, waving his hand, "Back to the city!"

Meanwhile, in the southern Solomon City, Ratlan Palace had also received news of the destruction of Salmatia.

"All the visual data collected?"

"Yes."

"All information on The Azure Longsword’s members has been organized and filed by Raphael. However... the physical constitution of a demigod is quite exaggerated, I’d really like to study it."

"We’ve studied it many times before with no results. Have you forgotten?"

"To observe is to collapse."

——————————————

Emperor’s Alliance, camp.

Upon returning to the camp, everyone saw that the entire camp was in chaos, everywhere there was burning black smoke and large stains of blood.

It was said that during the mission, the Imperial Camp had once again been infiltrated and attacked by a synthetic assassin.

Of course, infiltration and surprise attacks were nothing new to the Imperial Camp, but this time was different.

The synthetic assassin who came to sabotage was covered in a highly realistic silicone skin.

"The results are in." Knight Gobello’s body was carried into the tent where the Emperor and the Dukes had gathered, "This body was found beneath the bed in Sir Gobello’s tent. The time of death was last night, and the cause of death was a slit throat. The move was very professional; it’s clear that he didn’t have a chance to retaliate in his sleep and was killed instantly."

The Blade Warrior’s clerk reported to the Emperor, then pointed to another body beside him.

It was the remains of a synthetic human, with a large hole blown open in the chest and flickering electrical sparks remaining. What was terrifying was that the remains were covered with a layer of silicone on the surface, indistinguishable from normal human skin in both visual and tactile examination.

"We’ve checked the blade marks on this synthetic human’s forearm; they match the wounds on Knight Gobello’s neck."

"Which means that the synthetic assassin, disguised as Knight Gobello, first entered the camp under his identity, then snuck into Knight Gobello’s tent at night and killed him."

"Subsequently, it went around the camp under this identity, spying, sabotaging military equipment, assassinating important targets, until it was spotted and exposed."

"If it had chosen not to cause destruction but to head straight for My camp and assassinate Me!" The Emperor’s beard trembled with rage, "What then?"

No one answered.

"How many more such synthetic assassins are there in the camp?" The Emperor suppressed his rage and asked again.

"Your Majesty, between the day before yesterday and today, a total of 612 soldiers and knights have left and returned to the camp..." The Blade Warrior’s clerk quickly reported.

"Search! Search them all!" the Emperor angrily commanded, "Isolate these suspects until we have clarity!"

"Your Majesty," the Duke of Bavaria spoke up, "Most of the knights and soldiers in the camp are unaware of the existence of these synthetic assassins. If we isolate these people rashly, I fear it will accelerate the spread and propagation of rumors."

"Rumors will undoubtedly severely damage the morale and order of the military, especially since we have yet to find a way to see through this guise."

The Dukes echoed in agreement. For the soldiers and knights, knowing that the comrades they fought alongside could be impersonated by synthetic assassins would certainly lead to chaos.

"So what do you suggest?" The Emperor pressed down his anger again.

"Relax on the outside, tighten on the inside," the Duke of Bavaria said, "Play down the impact of this attack to the outside, forbid the relevant personnel from leaking any information. Meanwhile, tighten the control of order in the camp, station Blade Warriors at key traffic points, and scrutinize suspicious individuals."

"Just do as you say!" the Emperor said impatiently.
