Chapter 445: Chapter 60: The Emperor’s Message

This came too suddenly, too unexpectedly.

If Peggy hadn’t secretly followed, then by now Aske should have already gathered the War Law, revived as if nothing had happened, and would be asking the girls who just got up in the bright morning sun on Fire Island,

"How was your sleep last night? Oh, by the way, I just condensed the War Law. Let me educate everyone on what a Law is..."

However, Peggy did follow, and thus the fate of the entire world veered onto another path:

Verona City was no more.

The sky above the trenches was shrouded in the Mutant, and the stench of blood rain was still falling, slowly devouring any living being it touched.

The Mutant stemmed from the fall of a Demigod, a representation of chaos and disorder in a small area. In short, this zone was now inaccessible and would have to wait for the Night Watchmen to arrive with specialized equipment to deal with it.

The Church Court didn’t know what stance to take, while the Emperor Camp was utterly confused, almost as if they were fighting the final boss and it suddenly keeled over dead in front of them.

A big surprise.

A surprise indeed, but of course, it couldn’t truly be treated like manna from heaven. According to the testimony of two Giant Dragons, Red-haired Otto the Emperor urgently communicated with The Azure Longsword Mercenary Corps, mainly with Squad Leader Aske, the party involved Miss Peggy, as well as the Duke of Bavaria and his daughter, Miss Eleanor, who acted as the guarantors of the Mercenary Corps.

When the Emperor summons, naturally, one cannot ignore it. Yet those who were called had not fully grasped what had happened, so on the way there, Aske could only repeatedly confirm the details of the previous night with Peggy, while internally smiling wryly without end.

I was only dead for one night; how could it have...ah, Peggy.

You always manage to create some new trouble for me.

It was the same with the Night Watchman Mutant incident, and now again.

Seeing that the Squad Leader seemed a bit displeased, Peggy could only carefully apologize and admit her wrongs, fearing that the Squad Leader would continue to be angry with her.

"In any case, when we get there, you two stay quiet," Aske instructed. "Eleanor doesn’t know anything, and Peggy, you just say that your Spirituality was out of control yesterday, and you don’t remember anything."

"Understood," Peggy nodded eagerly, as obedient as can be at that moment.

Upon reaching the destination, a few Blade Warriors stepped forward to conduct a search and security inspection, when the Dragon of Imagination Bruno emerged from the building.

"No need to check; they haven’t brought any dangerous items," Bruno said.

To be exact, for these Transcendents, their very existence was the most dangerous thing, making a body search superfluous.

Thus, the Blade Warriors nodded and stepped back as Bruno pointed inside the door and said,

"Let’s go."

The three of them followed Bruno, only to hear this Demigod say:

"Although unexpected, I must say, you’ve done a splendid job."

"Thank you for the compliment, Lord Aske," Aske quickly said.

"There’s no need for formalities with me, language is meaningless here." Bruno pointed at his own head, the meaning was self-evident, "Also, apart from the Temple Knights in Verona City, those Purgatory’s Jailers also died in yesterday’s Mutant."

The meaning was clear: it wasn’t easy to act against a living Purgatory’s Jailer like Bruno. However, with the others dead, Bruno, as a Demigod of Dreams and Mind, could naturally delve deep into the Subconscious Ocean and salvage the Super Self memories of these deceased Jailers to see if there had been any tampering with their minds.

Since Aske had initially reminded him of this, the Demigod made a point of revealing this information, effectively signaling a friendly intent to collaborate with Aske.

While Aske’s thoughts were revolving, Bruno had already seen through his mind and without pointing it out, he simply nodded in approval and continued,

"At present, the headquarters of Purgatory’s Jailers has sent us a stern diplomatic note, but his Majesty regards it as a third-party diplomatic Taunt instigated by the Church Court and has completely disregarded it. In addition, the Demigods from the great families of the Empire have arrived, and they are all very interested in the mysterious forces that erased Verona City last night..."

He glanced at Peggy with interest and said, "Of course, that includes me."

"I...," Peggy began, remembering the words Aske had instructed her to say, "I lost control last night. I can’t remember anything about the mysterious power you mentioned."

"A very good excuse, indeed," Bruno said with a profound meaning, "Among the Demigods that have arrived, there are none from the Mind Sequence, so you may go ahead with that story, and let your Squad Leader handle the inquiries from the other Demigods."

Peggy: ...

She looked at Aske with an expression that was almost crying from grievance; he patted her head and said to Bruno once again,

"Thank you for the reminder."

His words were indeed heartfelt, prompting Bruno to smile broadly and signal that they had arrived.

The three walked into the room, which was the conference room where his Majesty and the Dukes had been meeting earlier. Not only were all the family heads present, but many strangers had arrived as well—clearly, the Demigods who had just rushed over from the major families.

Eleanor even saw her own ancestor, the Red-haired Otto with the Sealing Furnace Fire, standing behind her father, the Duke of Bavaria, and winking at her cunningly.

Before she could breathe a sigh of relief, she saw his Majesty stride over and embrace Aske’s shoulder with a strong grip—a gesture of affection and closeness that Frank seniors show to their juniors. The Emperor introduced him to the Demigods present with a boisterous laugh,

"Gentlemen, this is Lord Aske, the leader of The Azure Longsword Mercenary Corps! Last night, he led a night raid on Verona City and completely wiped out the entire city! His Majesty estimates that Innocent must now be anxious in his Ratlan Palace, ready to flee to Sicily at any moment!"

The Dukes laughed along, but the Demigods did not. It was not a snub to the Emperor, but rather, all the Demigods’ eyes were fixed on the little Blood Clan girl present.

There were not too many Demigods in this world, nor too few; all of them were old creatures who had lived for hundreds of years. Since the Magic Tide had been at a low ebb for a long time in history, the Demigods couldn’t freely use their powers, so even if there were conflicts of interest among them, they couldn’t fight it out and had to handle it through proxy wars or negotiation and communication.

Over time, most of the Demigods had formed a standard communication social circle with each other. The Demigods of the Divine Luo Empire had their own gatherings, and the Demigods of the West Frank Kingdom had their private salons. Together, these two circles constituted the large circle of Frank Demigods, alongside other Demigods circles from the Norman, Solomon, and Xiruisi Nations.

The smaller the circle, the faster the news circulated within it, and conversely, news passed slower between the larger circles. Now, regarding Peggy’s Slaughter City saga, it was common knowledge among the Demigods of the Divine Luo Empire, while only a handful of foreign Demigods might have guessed some clues from limited information.

As for which Law it was specifically, aside from Apilius, the leader of the Spiritual Body Sect pursuing the truth of Death, and Peggy’s master, Agrippina, who collaborated with him, not many other Demigods have guessed the truth.

Thus, naturally, some Demigods began to probe.
