Chapter 367: Chapter 165: Strange Creatures
Suddenly, a red light flashed.
Peggy’s Hot Melt Blade slashed from upper left to lower right, cutting open the abdomen of the Green Skin soldier.
The soldier was sliced in two by the high-temperature blade and fell to the ground, spurting large amounts of green blood. The two halves of the corpse continued to struggle on the ground as if trying to reattach themselves.
"Flesh Sequence?" Peggy, astonished, slashed again, turning the two halves into countless pieces, and the bizarre twisting finally stopped.
However, the Same Order Intuition did not detect the Flesh Sequence. Instead, a disgusting yellow-green glow congealed on the surface of the corpse, seemingly some sort of defective Extraordinary Trait.
"What is this?" The rest of the girls soon arrived and stared blankly at the corpse on the ground.
"It looks like there are traces of Life Sequence and Spirit Body Sequence." Nora said, not rashly approaching but inspecting the defective traits on the corpse.
"This guy is weird; even with a fatal injury, it doesn’t affect his mobility. Even though Peggy cut him in two, the separated upper and lower halves could still move," Eleanor described the earlier scene.
"That’s strange," Nora said.
In humans, the nerve center is primarily located in the brain; once the nerves of the upper and lower bodies are separated, the lower body should lose mobility immediately and not move erratically as Eleanor described.
"There might be more of these creatures nearby." Sigrdrifa suggested, "Why don’t I catch a live one for you to study?"
This silly girl rarely proposed a reliable method, and no one else could think of a reason to refute it.
Aske directly gave permission, "Go ahead."
Thus, Sigrdrifa left enthusiastically. Soon, she brought a Green Skin soldier.
The poor fellow’s chest and above, and waist and below, were all frozen into a block of ice, thoughtfully leaving the middle abdomen unfrozen, giving Nora space for medical examination.
"This guy," Nora’s Spirituality probed the unfrozen areas, and she quickly concluded:
"His body is filled with abundant Life Force, yet it doesn’t belong to him. It travels to the limbs and trunk through some bizarre meridian. These meridians...resemble plant veins, spreading and distributing along his entire neural network, effectively replacing the function of his original nerve cells."
"Because of this, his original limb nerves have been corroded and necrotized. This allows his body, although full of vitality, to be theoretically completely out of the brain’s control, like an extremely strong vegetative person."
"And a certain Spiritual Body is residing within him, and since his original Spiritual Body and Life Body connection has been completely severed, this alien Spiritual Body can fully control his body..."
"This means," Nora summed up, furrowing her brows uncomfortably, "there is a Transcendent who turned him into this half-dead state and then used the Spiritual Body to take over his body, transforming him into a fearless fighting machine."
"That’s utterly insane," Eleanor also frowned and said.
If it had been the old her, she would have already exploded with rage. However, after seeing too many horrifying sights over the years, she now suppressed her disgust and began pondering the manipulator behind this.
Nora then turned to Aske, asking via Mind Communication:
"Is it... the Transcendent that the Life School is currently hunting?"
"Yes," Aske said, "If nothing goes wrong, this guy is currently inside Stuttgart, covertly conducting human experiments, trying to transform the Fishbone Earl’s private army into puppets that obey only him."
"Our goal is to kill this guy."
Aske said this.
Of course, if one is a master of deceitful tactics, one could extract the recipe from this guy’s memory and then kill him.
Then, first sell the recorded recipe to the Spiritual Body Sect, then report to the Life School saying the target was located, and finally return to the Falcon Family, claiming the credit for wiping out the Fishbone Family—earning three rewards.
The group continued to clear Prosinegen Town, killing dozens more Green Skin soldiers in the process.
They were strong and fearless, indifferent to the negative impact of injuries on their bodies. Any low-ranked Transcendent here, surrounded by Green Skin soldiers, would inevitably meet a tragic outnumbered death.
However, The Azure Longsword and their comrades, with an average Level of Lv.7 and various extraordinary abilities combined, turned the tables and completely countered these physically strong but tactically monotonous and rigid Green Skins.
Having quickly cleared most of the Green Skin soldiers, the group continued deeper until they reached the town center.
In the middle of the town square stood a gigantic tree.
This tree was about thirty meters tall, with an extremely thick trunk, and its sprawling branches and leaves almost completely covered the square. Everyone cautiously observed the shadow cast on the ground by the tree and did not rashly advance.
"Peggy, Plague." Aske ordered.
"Plague?" Peggy was a bit perplexed; the bubonic plague bacteria she currently controlled was effective on animals but not on plants.
Nonetheless, since the order was from the Squad Leader, she raised her hand and aimed it at the huge tree.
Upon activating her ability, she suddenly revealed a look of shock.
This tree... was not a tree at all, but a huge monster!
As the Plague entered the body of the "tree," it violently shook as if sneezing intensely, causing the giant fruits hanging on the branches to fall violently.
Accompanied by the splitting of the fruits, wild roars also erupted from inside—emerging from the fruits were Green Skin soldiers, their bodies covered in thick green slime, and even more robust in form.
"WAAAGH!"
"WAAAGH!"
"WAAAGH!!!"
These Green Skins emitted a nonsensical roar, akin to a massive chorus at the curtain call in a theater, the overwhelming sound almost enough to flip the roofs of surrounding buildings.
"Is there any way to shut them up!" Sigrdrifa screamed, covering her helmet.
"Yes." Aske’s voice sounded in the Mind Communication Channel.
"Of course, by killing them."
Thus, an even more intense battle erupted again. Frost, Thunder Light, Flames, Gravity, Storm, Shadow, mingled like oil paints all over the battlefield, bullets, Battle Axe, knives, and swords clashed with the flesh of the Green Skin soldiers.
These battles, rather than being difficult, were purely high-pressure.
The Green Skin soldiers, lacking extraordinary abilities or refined combat skills, fought recklessly and aggressively, using their strong physical condition and the overwhelming numeric advantage to compensate for all other tactical shortcomings.
Only when the girls were utterly weary from killing and their strength was nearly spent did they finally slaughter all the Green Skins.
Subsequently, a great fire ignited by Medea fiercely blazed upon the central tree. The latter frantically thrashed its branches and leaves, issuing exhausted roars and whines, and gradually died under the devouring flames.
"It’s finally over." Medea breathed a sigh of relief, feeling as if her Spirituality was somewhat depleted.
"Over? This battle is far from over; have you forgotten about Stuttgart?" Aske said incredulously.
Hearing this, the girls incredulously lifted their heads.
Their gaze passed over the burning tree, towards the northwest direction of Stuttgart City, and saw countless vines and trees climbing up the towering buildings.
Turning almost the entire Stuttgart into a forest-like city.
The City of Green Skins.
